The technology for beneficiation of banded iron ores.containing low iron value is.a challenging tas. due to increas.ng demand of quality iron ore in India. A flotation proces. has.been developed to treat one s.ch ore, namely banded hematite quartzite （BHQ） containing 41.8wt% Fe and 41.5wt% s.O2,by us.ng oleic acid, methyl is.butyl carbinol （MIBC）, and s.dium s.licate as.the collector, frother, and dis.ers.nt, res.ectively. The relative effects.of thes. variables.have been evaluated in half-normal plots.and Pareto charts.us.ng central compos.te rotatable des.gn. A quadratic res.ons. model has.been developed for both Fe grade and recovery and optimized within the experimental range. The optimum reagent dos.ges.are found to be as.follows. collector concentration of 243.58 g/t, dis.ers.nt concentration of 195.67 g/t, pH 8.69, and conditioning time of 4.8 min to achieve the maximum Fe grade of 64.25% with 67.33% recovery. The predictions.of the model with regard to iron grade and recovery are in good agreement with the experimental res.lts.

The microwave-as.is.ed reduction behaviours.of two low-grade iron ores.having a s.milar Fe content of 49wt%but dis.inctly different mineralogical and liberation characteris.ics.were *** performances.in terms.of the iron grade and recovery as.obtained from s.atis.ically des.gned microwave(MW)roas.ing followed by low-intens.ty magnetic s.paration(LIMs.experiments.were *** res.ective optimum conditions.the titano-magnetite ore(O1)could yield an iron concentrate of 62.57%Fe grade and 60.01%Fe recovery,while the goethitic ore(O2)could be upgraded to a concentrate of 64.4%Fe grade and 33.3%Fe *** with the goethitic ore,the titanomagnetite ore res.onded better to MW *** characterization s.udies.of the feed and roas.ed products.obtained at different power and time conditions.us.ng X-ray diffraction,optical micros.opy,vibrating-s.mple magnetometry,and electron-probe microanalys.s.explain the s.quential reduction in the iron oxide ***,taking advantage of the MW abs.rbing character of the titano-magnetite ore,a blend of the s.me with the goethite-rich ore at a weight ratio of 60:40(O2:O1)was.s.bjected to MW roas.ing that res.lted in a concentrate of 61.57%Fe grade with a Fe recovery of 64.47%.

Optimization s.udies.of plas.a s.elting of red mud were carried out. Reduction of the dried red mud fines.was.done in an extended arc plas.a reactor to recover the pig iron. Lime grit and low as. metallurgical （LAM） coke were us.d as.the flux and reductant, res.ectively. 2level factorial des.gn was.us.d to s.udy the influence of all parameters.on the res.ons.s. Res.ons. s.rface modeling was.done with the data obtained from s.atis.ically des.gned experiments. Metal recovery at optimum parameters.was.found to be 79.52%.

The removal of iron from an Indian dias.ore s.mple was.s.udied us.ng magnetic s.paration and leaching techniques.aided by an in-depth mineralogical characterization s.udy involving quantitative mineralogical evaluation by s.anning electron micros.ope（QEMs.AN）, electron probe micro-analyzer（EPMA） and X-ray diffraction（XRD）. The characterization s.udies.indicate that extremely fine-s.zed hematite grains.are as.ociated with s.veral other mineral phas.s.in a complex manner with around 60% of the hematite not liberated even below the s.ze of 38 μm limiting the s.ope of phys.cal s.paration proces.es.to remove the iron. Wet high intens.ty magnetic s.paration（WHIMs. s.udies.reveal that only 49% of iron can be removed. Further, leaching s.udies.us.ng oxalic acid s.gges. that around 76% of the iron can be removed under conditions.s.ch as.a s.lid to liquid ratio of 0.05：1, a temperature of 90 ℃ a time period of 120 min and an acid concentration of 1 mol/L. The dis.olution of iron in oxalic acid is.found to be controlled by chemical reaction and the activation energy is.calculated as.35.15 k J/mol.

Bioleaching of a low grade chalcopyrite （ball mill s.illage material） was.tes.ed for copper recovery in s.ake flas.s. The original s.mples.（as.received） were thermally activated （600℃, 30 min） to notice the change in phys.co-chemical and mineralogical characteris.ics.of the hos. rock and s.bs.quently its.effect on copper recovery. A mixed culture of acidophilic chemolithotrophic bacterial cons.rtium predominantly entailing Acidithiobacillus.fer- rooxidans.s.rain was.us.d for bioleaching s.udies.and optimization of proces. parameters.of both original and thermally activated s.mples. Mineralogical characteriza- tion s.udies.indicated the pres.nce of chalcopyrite, pyrite in the s.licate matrix of the granitic rock. Field emis.ion s.anning electron micros.opy coupled with Energy dis.ers.ve s.ectros.opy （FEs.M-EDs. and X-ray Fluor- es.ence （XRF） analys.s.indicated mos.ly s.O2. With pH 2, pulp dens.ty 10% w/v, inoculum 10% v/v, temperature 30~C, 150 ***-~, 49% copper could be recovered in 30 days.from the fines. particle s.ze （- 1 ~ 0.75 mm） of the original s.illage s.mple. Under s.milar conditions.95% copper could be recovered from the thermally activated s.mple with the s.me s.ze fraction in 10 days. The s.udy revealed that thermal activation leads.to volume expans.on in the rock with the development of cracks. micro and macro pores.on its.s.rface, thereby enabling bacterial s.lution to penetrate more eas.ly into the body, facilitating enhanced copper dis.olution.

The antibacterial activity was.determined by agar well diffus.on method. The antioxidant activity was.determined by s.andard as.ay. The antidiabetic activity was.evaluated by α-glucos.das. inhibition as.ay and in vivo anticancer property was.determined agains. Ehrlich as.ites.carcinoma （EAC） cells.in s.is. Albino mice. Further partial characterization of the methanol extracts.was.carried out by thin layer chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, 1H nuclear magnetic res.nance s.ectros.opy and Fourier trans.orm-infra red s.ectrum s.ectral analys.s. Res.lts. Four s.lvent extracts.（acetone, ethanol, methanol and aqueous. of leaf and bark pos.es. s.rong antioxidant properties. In vivo anticancer activity of methanol extract leaf indicated pos.tive activity s.owing 34% inhibition agains. EAC cells.in s.is. Albino mice. All extracts.exhibited a-glucos.das. inhibitory activity in a dos.-dependent manner indicating pres.nce of promis.ng antidiabetic properties. The extracts.pos.es. s.rong antibacterial activity agains. the s.lected pathogenic bacteria （minimal inhibitory concentration ranging from 1.25-5.00 mg/mL）. The partial characterization of the methanol extracts.of leaf and bark revealed the pres.nce of phenolics.as.the lead compound res.ons.ble for s.udied bioactivities.of the plant extracts. This.s.udy inves.igated the embryonic development of Maldives.clownfis. Amphiprion nigripes.under natural conditions.(28 - 30℃) at a lagoon of Agatti Is.and, Laks.adweep, India. The newly depos.ted fis. egg was.caps.le-s.aped and orange-red, with a (0.73 ± 0.04) mm3 yolk containing 5 - 10 fat globules. The embryonic development of fertilized eggs.was.divided into 26 s.ages.and the time elaps.ng for each s.age was.recorded. Res.lts.s.owed that the cleavage was.rapid, with the firs. divis.on obs.rved 1 h 20 min after fertilization. Blas.ulation occurred 4 h later, followed by gas.rulation 12 h after fertilization, with a yolk volume of (0.61 ± 0.06) mm3. The organogenes.s.proces. s.arted 22 h after fertilization when the blas.opores.clos.d and notochord formation began. The embryonic s.age was.recorded 24 h later, with the appearance of forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain, melanophores.on yolk-s.c and 22 s.mites. and a decreas.d yolk volume of (0.54 ± 0.08) mm3. Other organs.developed well 31 h after fertilization, whereas.the heart s.arted beating and blood circulation began 78 h later. Red pigmentation (erytrophores. appeared 96 h after fertilization, with a s.all yolk volume of (0.22 ± 0.02) mm3. Mouth developed well and eyes.were noticeable 120 h later, with head, pectoral fin and tail frequently moving 144 h after fertilization. The embryo reached the pre-hatching s.age 168 h later and s.arted to hatch after 170 - 180 h incubation. This.s.udy firs. detailed the embryonic development and yolk abs.rption of A. nigripes.under natural conditions.

Breeding and mas. s.ale larval rearing of clownfis. Amphiprion percula is.very limited in brackis.water. We des.gned an indoor program of A. percula culture in brackis.water with a s.linity of 24±1, during which the impacts.of feed type, water temperature, and light intens.ty, on the efficiency of its.reproduction, were revealed. The fis. were accommodated along with s.a anemones.in fibre glas. tanks.to determine the influence of brooder diet on breeding efficiency. Higher reproductive efficiency [number of eggs.laid （276±22.3 eggs.] was.obs.rved when fis. were fed live Acetes.s.. rather than clam （204±16.4 eggs., tras. fis. （155±12 eggs. and formulated feed （110±10 eggs.. The s.awning rate was.increas.d during s.ptember and October （water temperature, 28.74±0.55℃） on average of 2.4 s.awning per month; and low s.awning rate was.in January （water temperature, 24.55±0.45℃） on average of I s.awning per month. Among three light intens.ties.（100, 500, and 900 1x） s.t to evaluate larval s.rvival rate, larvae s.owed the highes. s.rvival rate （65.5%） at 900 lx. The breeding method s.ecifically in brackis.water developed in the pres.nt s.udy is.a new approach, will help the people from the regions.of es.uary and backwater to enhance their livelihood and it will lead to reduce the exploitation from the wild habitat.
