Controlling the magnetic state of the proximate quantum spin liquid α-RuCl_(3) with an optical cavity

Harnessing the enhanced light-matter coupling and quantum vacuum fluctuations resulting from mode volume compression in optical cavities is a promising route towards functionalizing quantum materials and realizing exotic states of ***,we extend cavity quantum electrodynamical materials engineering to correlated magnetic systems,by demonstrating that a Fabry-Pérot cavity can be used to control the magnetic state of the proximate quantum spin liquidα-RuCl_(3).Depending on specific cavity properties such as the mode frequency,photon occupation,and strength of the light-matter coupling,any of the magnetic phases supported by the extended Kitaev model can be *** particular,in the THz regime,we show that the cavity vacuum fluctuations alone are sufficient to bringα-RuCl_(3) from a zigzag antiferromagnetic to a ferromagnetic *** external pumping of the cavity in the few photon limit,it is further possible to push the system into the antiferromagnetic Kitaev quantum spin liquid state.

Genomic Prediction of Arsenic Tolerance and Grain Yield in Rice: Contribution of Trait-Specific Markers and Multi-Environment Models

Many rice-growing areas are affected by high concentrations of arsenic(As).Rice varieties that prevent As uptake and/or accumulation can mitigate As threats to human *** selection is known to facilitate rapid selection of superior genotypes for complex *** explored the predictive ability(pa)of genomic prediction with single-environment models,accounting or not for trait-specific markers,multi-environment models,and multi-trait and multi-environment models,using the genotypic(1600K SNPs)and phenotypic(grain As content,grain yield and days to flowering)data of the Bengal and Assam Aus *** the base-line single-environment model,pa of up to 0.707 and 0.654 was obtained for grain yield and grain As content,respectively;the three prediction methods(Bayesian Lasso,genomic best linear unbiased prediction and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces)were considered to perform similarly,and marker selection based on linkage disequilibrium allowed to reduce the number of SNP to 17K,without negative effect on pa of genomic ***-environment models giving distinct weight to trait-specific markers in the genomic relationship matrix outperformed the base-line models up to 32%.Multi-environment models,accounting for genotype×environment interactions,and multi-trait and multi-environment models outperformed the base-line models by up to 47%and 61%,*** the multi-trait and multi-environment models,the Bayesian multi-output regressor stacking function obtained the highest predictive ability(0.831 for grain As)with much higher efficiency for computing *** findings pave the way for breeding for As-tolerance in the progenies of biparental crosses involving members of the Bengal and Assam Aus *** prediction can also be applied to breeding for other complex traits under multiple environments.

Aggregation-induced emission luminogens(AIEgens)exhibit efficient cytotoxic reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation capability and unique light-up features in the aggregated state,which have been well explored in image-guided photodynamic therapy(PDT).However,the limited penetration depth of light in tissue severely hinders AIEgens as a candidate for primary or adjunctive therapy for clinical ***,microwaves(MWs)show a distinct advantage for deeper penetration depth in tissues than ***,for the first time,we report AIEgen-mediated microwave dynamic therapy(MWDT)for cancer *** found that two AIEgens(TPEPy-I and TPEPy-PF6)served as a new type of microwave(MW)sensitizers to produce ROS,including singlet oxygen(1O2),resulting in efficient destructions of cancer *** results of 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT)and live/dead assays reveal that the two AIEgens when activated by MW irradiation can effectively kill cancer cells with average IC-50 values of 2.73 and 3.22μM,***,the ability of the two AIEgens to be activated by MW not only overcomes the limitations of conventional PDT,but also helps to improve existing MW ablation therapy by reducing the MW dose required to achieve the same therapeutic outcome,thus reducing the occurrence of side-effects of MW radiation.

Snail Hosts of paragonimus in Asia and the Americas

We have undertaken a comprehensive review of snail hosts of paragonimus world-wide exclusive of Africa based on modern malacological data, where available, and with consideration of the phylogeny of the snail groups involved. This is the first comprehensive review since those made by Chen (1979) and Chen et al (1983), and there have been considerable taxonomic changes over the past decade. A number of names and concepts found in the medical malacological and parasitological literature up to the present time require revision or correction. There are vast radiations of snails of the superfamilies Cerithiacea and Rissoacea involved in the transmission of paragonimus in China. We list 54 species world-wide of which 35(65%) occur in China. Revisions and corrections pertaining to China include: (i) The family Hydrobiidae does not occur in China or S.E. Asia,and the Pomatiopsidae should be used. (ii) The genus Bythinella is entirely European (Hydrobiidae: Amnicolinae). The so-called Bythinella of China belongs to the genus Erhaia (Pomatiopsidae). (iii) The generic name Pseudobythinella described from China is preoccupied, a junior synonym of Pseudobythinella Melville 1956, a fossil from England. All Chinese Pseudobythinella are now classified as Erhaia. (iv) Akiyoshia has been used as a generic name for some snails in Hunan transmitting paragonimus. Akiyoshia is from Japan and biological/ecological data indicate that the Chinese taxon is not Akiyoshia. (v)The genus Tricula in recent Chinese literature is comprised of four genera determined by detailed comparative anatomical data: Tricula, Neotricula, Gammatricula, and *** cannot be used to discriminate among them. (vi) Tricula cristella has been consistently misidentified in collections in China and literature. However, genuine T cristella does transmit paragonimus skrjabini. (vii) Tricula minutoides in the Chinese literature has been misidentified, and specimens are T. crisIella. (viii) The genus Melamia and
