A new s.ecies.of the genus.Theloderma Ts.hudi, 1838 (Amphibia： Anura： Rhacophoridae) from Tay Nguyen Plateau, central Vietnam

A new s.ecies.of s.all tree frog from a primary montane tropical fores. of central Vietnam, Tay Nguyen Plateau, is.des.ribed bas.d on morphological, molecular, and acous.ic evidence. The Golden Bug-Eyed Frog, Theloderma auratum s.. nov., is.dis.inguis.able from its.congeners.and other s.all rhacophorid s.ecies.bas.d on a combination of the following morphological attributes. （1） bony ridges.on head abs.nt; （2） s.ooth s.in completely lacking calcified warts.or as.erities. （3） pointed elongated tapering s.out; （4） vocal opening in males.abs.nt; （5） vomerine teeth abs.nt; （6） males.of s.all body s.ze （s.L 21.8-26.4 mm）; （7） head longer than wide; ED/s.L ratio 13%-15%; Es./s.L ratio 16%-20%; （8） s.all tympanum （TD/EL ratio 50%-60%） with few tiny tubercles. （9） s.pratympanic fold abs.nt; （10） ventral s.rfaces.completely s.ooth; （11 ） webbing between fingers.abs.nt; （12） outer and inner metacarpal tubercles.pres.nt, s.pernumerary metacarpal tubercle s.ngle, medial, oval in s.ape; （13） toes.half-webbed： I 2-21/4 II 11/^-23/~ III 2-31/4 IV 3-11/2 V; （14） inner metatars.l tubercle pres.nt, oval; outer metatars.l tubercle abs.nt; （15） iris.bicolored; （16） dors.l s.rfaces.golden-yellow with s.ars. golden-orange s.eckling or reticulations.and few s.all dark-brown s.ots. （17） lateral s.des.of head and body with wide dark reddis.-brown to black lateral s.ripes. clearlys.parated from lighter dors.l coloration by s.raight contras.ing edge; （18） ventral s.rfaces.of body, throat, and ches. greyis.-blue with indis.inct brown confluent blotches. （19） upper eyelids.with few （3-5） very s.all flat reddis. s.perciliary tubercles. （20） limbs.dors.lly reddis.-brown, ventrally brown with s.all bluis.-white s.eckles. The new s.ecies.is.als. dis.inct from all congeners.in 12s.rRNA to 16s.rRNA mitochondrial DNA fragment s.quences.（uncorrected genetic dis.ance P〉8.9%）. Advertis.ment call and tadpole morphology of the new s.ecies.are des.ribed. Our molecular data s.owed Theloderma auratum s.. nov.

The ability to identify emotional arous.l in heteros.ecific vocalizations.may facilitate behaviors.that increas. s.rvival opportunities. Crucially, this.ability may orient inter-s.ecies.interactions. par- ticularly between humans.and other s.ecies. Res.arch s.ows.that humans.identify emotional arous.l in vocalizations.acros. multiple s.ecies. s.ch as.cats. dogs. and piglets. However, no previ- ous.s.udy has.addres.ed humans. ability to identify emotional arous.l in s.lver foxes. Here, we adopted low- and high-arous.l calls.emitted by three s.rains.of s.lver fox--Tame, Aggres.ive, and Uns.lected--in res.ons. to human approach. Tame and Aggres.ive foxes.are genetically s.lected for friendly and attacking behaviors.toward humans. res.ectively. Uns.lected foxes.s.ow aggres. s.ve and fearful behaviors.toward humans. Thes. three s.rains.s.ow s.milar levels.of emotional arous.l, but different levels.of emotional valence in relation to humans. This.emotional information is.reflected in the acous.ic features.of the calls. Our data s.gges. that humans.can identify high- arous.l calls.of Aggres.ive and Uns.lected foxes. but not of Tame foxes. Further analys.s.revealed that, although within each s.rain different acous.ic parameters.affect human accuracy in identifying high-arous.l calls. s.ectral center of gravity, harmonic-to-nois. ratio, and F0 bes. predict humans. ability to dis.riminate high-arous.l calls.acros. all s.rains. Furthermore, we identified in s.ectral center of gravity and F0 the bes. predictors.for humans. abs.lute ratings.of arous.l in each call. Implications.for res.arch on the adaptive value of inter-s.ecific eaves.ropping are dis.us.ed.

We pres. nt a morphological and molecular as.es.ment of the Microhyla fauna of Myanmar bas.d on new collections.from central (Magway Divis.on) and northem (Kachin s.ate) parts.of the country. In total, s.x s.ecies.of Microhyla are documented, including M. berdmorei, M. heymons., M. butleri, M. mukhles.ri and two new s.ecies.des.ribed from the s.mi-arid s.varma-like plains.of the middle part of the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwady) River Valley. We us.d a 2 481 bp long 12s.rRNA- 16s.rRNA fragment of mtDNA to hypothes.ze gen ealogical relati on s.ips.within Microhyla. We applied an in teg rati ve taxonomic approach combining molecular, morphological, and acous.ic lines.of evidenee to evaluate the taxonomic s.atus.of Mya nmar Microhyla. We dem on s.rated that the newly dis.overed populations.of Microhyla s.. from the Magway Divis.on repres.nt two yet undes.ribed s.ecies. Thes. two new s.mpatric s.ecies.are as.igned to the M. achatina s.ecies.group, with both adapted to the s.as.on ally dry environments.of the Irrawaddy Valley. Microhyla fodiens.s.. nov. is.a s.out-bodied s.ecies.with a remarkably enlarged s.ovel-like outer metatars.l tubercle us.d for burrowing and is.highly diverge nt from other know n congeners.(P-dis.ancea8.8%). Microhyla irrawaddy s.. nov. is.a s.all-bodied s.ender frog recons.ructed as.a s.s.er s.ecies.to M. kodial from s.uthern India (P-dis.ance=5.3%);however, it clearly differs.from the latter both in external morphology and advertis.ment call parameters. Microhyla mukhles.ri is.reported from Myanmar for the firs. time. We further dis.us. the morphological diag no s.ies.and biogeography of Microhyla s.ecies.recorded in Myanmar.
