Multiple sclerosis （MS） is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system （CNS）. Essential charac- teristics are demyelination, inflammation and neurode- generation. This process affects the white and grey matter in the CNS. MS patients experience various progression subtypes in association with the cerebral or spinal, acute inflammatory or glial sclerotic lesions （Mtiller, 2009）. Most patients end up in a progressive, smouldering, chronic inflammatory process （MUller, 2009）. Current predominantly used 1.5 respectively 3 Tesla MRI with Gadolinium~ application visualize the various old and acute lesions. They serve as a biological marker in com- bination with standardised assessment of brain atrophy, black holes, etc. However, MRI with a stronger magnetic 7 Tesla field with better sensitivity gave hints on an on- going, acute inflammatory, smouldering process even with Gadolinium~ enhancing acute lesions in the brain and the spinal cord in progressive, so-called relapse free MS patients （Mtiller, 2009; Sinnecker et al., 2012）. Ad- ditionally, progress of MS is determined with subjective standardised clinical ratings （Sinnecker et al., 2012）. Both methods are used for the evaluation of the efficacy of relapse rate reducing drugs. These compounds, i.e., in- terferons, teriflunamide, glatiramer acetate, fingolimod, fumarate or monoclonal antibodies, preponderantly weaken the malfunction of the peripheral immune system in relapse remitting MS patients. These MS drugs share one common disadvantage. They do not stop progression or improve MS within a framework of a regenerative process. They do not enable reversal of symptoms, for in- stance functional deficits or spasticity （Mtiller, 2009）.

Background Brain natriuretic peptide （BNP） is normally present in low levels in the circulation, but it is elevated in parallel with the degree of congestion in heart failure subjects （CHF）. BNP has natriuretic effects and is a potent vasodilator. It is suggested that BNP could be a therapeutic alternative in CHF. However, we postulated that the high levels of circulating BNP in CHF may downregulate the response of microvascular natriuretic receptors. This was tested by comparing 15 CHF patients （BNP 〉 3000 ng/l） with 10 matched, healthy controls. Methods Cutaneous microvascular blood flow in the forearm was measured by laser Doppler Flowmetry. local heating （＋44°C, 10 min） was used to evoke a maximum local dilator response. Results Non-invasive iontophoretic administration of either BNP or acetylcholine （ACh）, a known endothelium-dependent dilator, elicited an increase in local flow. The nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, l-N-Arginine- methyl-ester （l-NAME）, blocked the BNP response （in controls）. Interestingly, responses to BNP in CHF patients were reduced to about one third of those seen in healthy controls （increase in flow： 251% in CHF vs. 908% in controls; P 〈 0.001）. In contrast, the vasodilator responses to ACh and to local heating were only somewhat attenuated in CHF patients. Thus, dilator capacity and nitric oxide signalling were not af- fected to the same extent as BNP-mediated dilation, indicating a specific downregulation of the latter response. Conclusions The findings show for the first time that microvascular responses to BNP are markedly reduced in CHF patients. This is consistent with the hypothesis of BNP receptor function is downregulated in CHF.

AIM: To prospectively analyze the impact of increased intestinal permeability (IP) on mortality and the occurrence of infections in patients with ***: IP was quantified using the lactulose/mannitol (l/M) test in 46 hospitalized patients with cirrhosis (25 Child-Pugh A/B, 21 Child-Pugh C) and in 16 healthy controls. Markers of inflammation [lPS-binding protein, Interleukin-6 (Il-6)] and enterocyte death [intestinal fatty-acid binding protein (I-FABP)] were determined in serum using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Patients were followed for one year and assessed for survival, liver transplantation, the necessity of hospitalization and the occurrence of bacterial infections. The primary endpoint of the study was defined as differences in survival between patients with pathological and without pathological lactulose/mannitol ***: Thirty-nine (85%) patients with cirrhosis had a pathologically increased IP index (l/M ratio > 0.07) compared to 4 (25%) healthy controls (P lated with the Child-Pugh score (r = 0.484, P = 0.001) and with serum Il-6 (r = 0.342, P = 0.02). Within one year, nineteen (41%) patients developed a total of 33 episodes of hospitalization with bacterial or fungal infections. Although patients who developed spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) (n = 7) had a higher IP index than patients who did not (0.27 vs 0.14, P = 0.018), the baseline IP index did not predict time to infection, infection-free survival or overall survival, neither when assessed as linear variable, as tertiles, nor dichotomized using an established cut-off. In contrast, model for end-stage liver disease score, Child-Pugh score, the presence of ascites, serum Il-6 and I-FABP were univariate predictors of infection-free ***: Although increased IP is a frequent phenomenon in advanced cirrhosis and may predispose to SBP, it failed to predict infection-free and overall survival in this prospective coho

The supplementation of exogenous fibrolytic enzymes(EFE) to dairy cows diets could be a strategy to improve fiber degradation in the rumen which is especially important for the early lactating cows characterized by a high milk energy output and an insufficient energy intake. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of a fibrolytic enzyme product(Roxazyme G2 liquid, 3.8 and 3.9 ml/kg total mixed ration [TMR] DM) supplemented to a TMR on production performance and blood parameters of dairy cows during early(trial 1) and mid-lactation(trail 2). In addition, rumination activity was measured in trial 2. The nutrient digestibility of the experimental TMR was obtained by using wethers. In the digestibility trial, EFE was supplemented at a rate of 4.4 m l/kg Roxazyme G2 liquid TMR-DM. The TMR contained 60% forage and 40% concentrate(DM basis). Twenty eight 50 ± 16 days in milk(DIM)and twenty six 136 ± 26 DIM Holstein cows were used in two 8-wk completely randomized trails,stratified by parity and milk yield level. One milliliter of the enzyme product contained primarily cellulase and xylanase activities(8,000 units endo-1,4-? glucanase, 18,000 units endo-1,3(4)-? glucanase and 26,000 units 1,4-? xylanase). No differences in digestibility of DM, OM, CP, NDF and ADF were observed(P >0.05) between the control and the EFE supplemented TMR. Addition of EFE to the TMR fed to early(trial 1) and mid-lactation cows(trial 2) did not affect daily dry matter intake(DMI), milk yield,4% fat-corrected milk, energy-corrected milk(ECM), concentration of milk fat, protein, fat-protein-quotients, somatic cell score, energy balance, and gross feed efficiency of early and mid-lactation cows(P >0.05). Mid-lactation cows(trial 2) fed with TMR enzyme showed a tendency of a slightly higher ECM yield(P = 0.09). The storage capacity of reservoirs is gradually reduced due to sediment accumulation that causes changes in the area-storage capacity（ASC） *** these curves and predicting their future change is an important issue for planners,designers and operators of *** empirical and semiempirical approaches have been suggested for establishing and predicting the future changes for these *** this study four empirical and semi-empirical methods were evaluated and three of them were modified to be used for the prediction of changes in the ASC curves due to sedimentation,based on the existing sedimentation survey data for 11 reservoirs in the *** evaluation,these approaches were reviewed and used to determine sedimentation depth and establishing the ASC curves for the Mosul dam reservoir（MDR）,which is the biggest hydraulic structure on the River Tigris in northern *** started operating in 1986 with a storage capacity of 11.11 km;and a water surface area 380 km2 at normal operation stage（330 m a.s.l.）.The results obtained from these methods were evaluated using observed bathymetric survey data that had been collected in 2011 after 25 years of the operation of the *** evaluation results showed three methods had presented more accurate results for estimating water depth or sedimentation depth at dam site with percentage error about 1.06-3.30%.Whilst for establishing ASC curves,one method presented good agreement result with survey ***,ASC and sedimentation depths at dam site of MDR for periods 50,75,100 and 125 years were estimated using the modified approaches and the area reduction *** results of the modified methods provided reasonable agreement when compared with the area reduction method proposed by the *** of Reclamation and the agreement became better with an increase in time period.

By integrating philological, historical, numismatic, epigraphical, metrological and, last but not least, macro- and micro-economic methods in his analytical account of the Athenian public, and political, economy, Boeckh set standards for a studium integrale as an inevitable basis for a successful interpretation of economic matters in a political and social framework.

Dear Editor,Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a viral infection caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-Co V-2).From March 2020,several studies indicate that many subjects affected by mild-to-moderate COVID-19 presented olfactory/gustatory dysfunction(OD/GD)that appeared strongly correlated between them but not with the other symptoms suggestive of upper airway infection(lechien et al.2020a,b;Hopkins et al.2020;Paderno et al.2020).
