Insig.t is here provided into the socio-economic and technical characteristics of cattle production in the Ndé Division (West Cameroon reg.on). Using.a semi-structured questionnaire, information on the activity was assessed following.onsite visits and interviewing.breeders. Throug. a random sampling.scheme, 110 breeders in the four subdivisions of the Ndé Division were shadowed. The majority (98.18%) of breeders were men ag.d 20 to 40 and married (91.82%). They belong.to the Mbororo ethnic g.oup, having.cumulated more than 10 years in the activity. Most respondents (50.91%) did not attend school and earn their living.mainly from livestock (78.18%). Cattle were raised for sale and to feed the breeder’s family (77.27%). The main mode of acquisition of animals was throug. inheritance (81.82%). The cattle breeds were mostly made up of white Fulani (70%), living.in private farms using.a combination of stake and barbed wires (67.27%) as fences. The combination of natural fodder and cooking.salt was used by most breeders (59.09%) as a daily ration. Reproduction was by natural mating.(97.07%). Parasites (internal and external) and foot-and-mouth disease were the main diseases reported by the majority of farmers. Self-treatment (50%) was the main prophylactic measure taken by farmers in case of disease symptoms. Cattle herders faced several challeng.s, such as insufficient pasture (67.27%), ag.o-pastoral conflicts (76.36%) and diseases (90.91%). Cattle breeding.was rather a widespread activity with no particular restriction.

A composite In-Pb:carbon was successfully synthetized by a two-step mechanochemical synthesis in order to obtain an adequate particles size and structure to investig.te the electrochemical reactivity of the In-Pb solid solution towards Mg.A potential synerg.tic coupling.of electroactive elements In and Pb was examined using.electrochemical and ex situ X-ray diffraction *** potential profile of the solid solution indicates the formation of Mg.(2)Pb and Mg.***,the diffraction study sug.ests a peculiar electrochemically-driven amorphization of Mg.In during.the mag.esiation,in strong.contrast to Mg.In crystallization in In-based and In Bi-based electrodes reported in the *** In and Pb favors the amorphization of Mg.In and a hig. first mag.esiation capacity of about 550 m Ah g.(-1),but is thereafter detrimental to the material’s *** results emphasize the possible influence of electrochemically-driven amorphization and crystallization processes on electrochemical performance of battery materials.

4-hydroxylonchocarpin （LCP） or 2＇,4-dihydroxy-3＇,4＇-（2,2-dimethylchromene） chalcone is a chalcone of the class flavonoid, with a molecular weig.t of 322 g.mol mostly isolated in the family Moraceae and Leg.minosae. LCP was reported to have a variety of pharmacolog.cal activities such as antibacterial, antifung.l, anticancer, anti-reverse transcriptase, antitubercular, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, ornitnine decarboxylase activity and antioxidant. The hemisynthesis of the compound has been described. The present review was undertaken to bring.out tog.ther the knowledg. on LCP, and can serve as the start point for future reseamh and valorization accomplishments.

目的:在这项研究中,我们的目的是评估经皮电神经刺激(TENS)作为一种镇痛治疗对带状疱疹后神经痛的有效性。方法:我们进行了为期一年的研究,招募了 N=60例患者(年龄≥48岁),其中男性22例,女性38例。随机分为g.组(10针治疗组)和g.组(针刺治疗组)。共进行10次治疗,共4次使用VAS评估工具,分别为SO、S4、S7、S10。g.组10男20女,平均年龄66.73±9.31岁,治疗前平均VAS 7.40±1.23,g.组12男18女,平均年龄64.70±6.84岁,治疗前平均VAS 7.23±1.26。刺激强度范围为7-24mA,患者的支持能力直接依赖于VAS强度;它越高,就有越多的病人能够处理它。结果:治疗前两组患者年龄、平均VAS值差异无统计学意义(p>0.05),具有可比性。经过10次治疗后,TENS组平均VAS 3.43±1.36,与治疗前相比差异有统计学意义(P0.05)。结论:1、TENS对带状疱疹后神经痛患者的镇痛治疗具有良好效果。2、针刺对带状疱疹后神经痛患者的镇痛治疗也具有良好效果。3、TENS与针刺对带状疱疹后神经痛的镇痛治疗相比,效果无明显差异。

Antibacterial and Antibiotic-Potentiation Activities of Some Cameroonian Food Plants ag.inst Multi-Drug.Resistant g.am-Neg.tive Bacteria

Objective： To evaluate the in vitro antibacterial properties and the ability to potentiate some common antibiotics effects of the methanol extracts of 11 Cameroonian food plants on 29 g.am-neg.tive bacteria expressing.multidrug.resistant （MDR） phenotypes. Methods： The antimicrobial activity of the extracts was performed using.the broth microdilution method. The phytochemical screening.of these extracts was also performed using.standard methods. Resalts： Ocimum basilicum, g.etum africanum and Eucalyptus robusta extracts possessed an antibacterial activity ag.inst all the 29 studied bacteria. The extracts from g. africanum and E. robusta were the most active with the lowest minimal inhibitory concentration of 64 p, g.mL on Escherichia coil Ag.00A for both extracts and also ag.inst Klebsiella pneumoniae K24 for g. africanum. When tested in the presence of phenylalanine-arg.nine 13 -Naphtylamide （PA 13 N）, an efflux pump inhibitor, the extract of Thymus vulg.fis and E. Robusta showed the best activities on most tested strains. E. Robusta extract showed g.od synerg.stic effects, improving.the activity of commonly used antibiotics in about 85% of cases. Coaclasion： The overall results obtained provide the baseline information for the use of the tested plants in the treatment of bacterial infections.

In this work, activated carbons (ACs) prepared by chemical activation of g.rcinia cola nut shell impreg.ated with H3PO4 (CBH2/1) and KOH (CBK1/1) were used to study the kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamics of the adsorption of thymol blue from aqueous solution. The characterization of ACs showed the BET measurements g.ve surface area and total pore volume respectively of 328.407 m2·g.1 and 0.1032 cm3·g.1 for CBH2/1 and 25.962 m2·g.1 and 0.03 cm3·g.1for CBK1/1;elemental analysis showed a hig. percentag. of carbon in both ACs. Influence of parameters such as initial pH, contact time, adsorbent mass, initial concentration, ionic streng.h and the effect of temperature on the removal of thymol blue from aqueous solution were studied in batch mode. The studies showed that equilibrium adsorption was attained after 60 minutes for the two ACs, adsorption capacity increased with increasing.concentration of thymol blue, and maximum adsorption capacity was obtained at an acidic environment with pH 2. Avrami’s non-linear kinetic expression was the best suited for describing.the adsorption kinetics of thymol blue onto ACs, while equilibrium data showed that the three-parameter isotherms better described the adsorption process since R2 > 0.96, and the error functions were lowest for all of them. Maximum adsorption capacity values obtained using.the three-parameter Fritz-Schlunder equation were 32.147 mg.g.1 for CBH2/1 and 67.494 mg.g.1 for CBK1/1. The values of the model parameters g.and mFS respectively, obtained using.the Redlich-Peterson and Fritz-Schlunder III isotherms below 1, showed that the adsorption of thymol blue by the ACs occurred on heterog.neous surfaces. Thermodynamic analyses of the data of the adsorption of thymol blue onto ACs revealed that the adsorption process was temperature dependent, endothermic and spontaneous.

Objective： To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the methanol extract from the stem bark of Drypetes tessmanniana, fractions （DTB1-5） as well as compounds [friedelin （2）, 3,7-dioxofriedelane （3）, 3,15-dioxofriedelane （4）, 313 -O-（E）-3,5-dihydroxycinnamoyl-11 -oxo-olean-12-ene （6）, and 313,6 α -dihydroxylup- 20（29）-ene （7）. Methods： Ag.r disc diffusion was used to determine the sensitivity of the above samples, whilst the microdilution method was used for the determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration （MIC） and the minimal microbicidal concentrations （MMC）. Results： The diffusion test showed that the crude extract was able to prevent the g.owth of all tested org.nisms. All other samples showed selective activity. The inhibitory effect of the fraction DTB2 was noted on 63.7%, that of DTB1 and DBT3 on 54.6%, whilst DTB4 and DTB5 were active on 9.1% of the 11 tested org.nisms. The tested compounds prevented the g.owth of 81.8% of the tested microbial species for compounds 3 and 4, 36.7% for compound 6, and 18.2% for compound 7. The results of the MIC determinations indicated perceptible values for DTB and compound 4 on 81.8% of the tested org.nisms. For other samples, MICs were detected on 0-63.7%. The lowest MIC value （78.12 μg.mL） for the crude extract and fractions （DTB2） was observed on M. audouinii. The corresponding.value for isolated compounds （156.25 μg. mL） was noted with compounds 3 on S. faecalis and 4 on M. audouinii. The results of the MMC determination sug.ested that the microbicidal effect of most of the tested samples on the studied microorg.nisms could be expected. Conclusion： The methanol extract from the stem bark of Drypetes. tessmanniana （Euphorbiaceae） as well as some of the isolated compounds mig.t be potential sources of new antimicrobial drues.

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Predictive Factors among.Cong.lese Hypertensive Patients

A cross-sectional study of hypertensive patients was carried out in Brazzaville between January 2011 and December 2013.?The objectives of the present study are to determine the different types of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH)?and to identify the predictive factors of LVH. It included 556 hypertensive patients with LVH, characterized by left ventricular mass index (LVMI) > 135 g.m2?in men, and > 111 g.m2?in women. Patients’ sociodemog.aphic data and echocardiog.aphic parameters were g.thered and analyzed. There were 342 males (61.5%) and 214 females (38.5%),?with?mean ag. 53.5 ± 11.5 years. The indications of the test were hypertension initial evaluation in 402 cases (72.3%), investig.tion of ischemic stroke in 62 cases (11.2%), heart failure in 58 cases (10.4%), dyspnea and chest pain in respectively 22 and 12 cases. Hypertension, old of 5.2 ± 4.5 years, was associated with overweig.t/obesity in 408 cases (73.4%), physical inactivity in 325 cases (58.5%), hypertension family history in 274 cases (49.3%), diabetes mellitus in 76 cases (13.7%), dyslipidemia in 63 cases (11.3%), tobacco use in 9 cases (1.6%). The prevalence of LVH was 49.4% and consisted into concentric LVH in 470 cases (84.5%), eccentric LVH in 70 cases (12.6%), and in 16 cases (2.9%),?it was a concentric left ventricular remodeling. Ag., male g.nder, seniority of hypertension and treatment were predictive factors of LVH. The latter is the most predominant abnormality in the echocardiog.aphic profile of Cong.lese hypertensive patients. Efficient manag.ment on hypertension will lead to reducing.its morbidity and mortality.

Epidemiolog.cal and Prog.ostic Aspects of Anemia during.Heart Failure in Brazzaville (The Republic of the Cong.)

To improve the manag.ment of patients with heart failure and anemia at the University Hospital of Brazzaville, a cross-sectional study of patients diag.osed with heart failure condition (left or g.obal heart failure) was conducted over a period of nine months from January 1 to September 30, 2017. A total of 171 patients were included during.the study period. Study participants were divided into two g.oups: g.oup A included patients with an additional anemic condition (n = 57) and g.oup NA patients without anemia (n = 114). Anemia was defined as a hemog.obin rate of g.dL for men and g.dL for women. All elig.ble patients admitted to the Department of Cardiolog. were included in the study. The frequency of anemia was 33.3%, with a mean hemog.obin level of 9.4 ± 1.5 g.dL. Men accounted for 46.9% of cases (n = 79) and women 53.8% (n = 92). The mean ag. of elig.ble patients was 57.5 ± 16.5 years. Of these, 46.2% (n = 75) had a secondary educational level and 53.8% (n = 92) had a low socioeconomic status. Heart failure was g.obal in 153 cases (89.5%). Patients were on NYHA III-IV functional class in 112 cases (65.5%), with a statistically sig.ificant difference between anemic and non-anemic patients (p = 0.0001). The main underlying.heart diseases were dilated cardiomyopathy (75.1%), hypertensive heart disease (10.5%), ischemic heart disease (6.5%), and valvular disease (4.7%). The comparison between the two g.oups (A and NA) showed a long.r hospital leng.h of stay (18.4 ± 8.9 versus 12.9 ± 7.6 days;p = 0.00001) and a hig.er mortality rate (4 versus 2 deaths). The re-hospitalization rate was more important in g.oup A (n = 4) than in g.oup NA (n = 1). Anemia is a common condition in patients with heart failure. It worsens the clinical features and prog.osis.

To contribute to improving.the manag.ment of patients with heart failure and anemia in Brazzaville, a prospective and descriptive study was conducted in the University Hospital of Brazzaville for nine months (January 1st to September 30, 2017). Included 57 patients hospitalized for left or g.obal heart failure and presenting.anemia. Anemia was defined by an haemog.obin level g.dL in men and g.dL in women. Proportioning. of the reticulocytes rate, serum iron, ferritin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and/or C-reactive protein (CRP), electrophoresis of proteins, and evaluation of renal function by g.omerular filtration rate (g.R), as well as the treatments of heart failure, and the auxiliary therapeutic ones, in particular the antithrombotic drug., allowed aetiolog.c research. They were 20 men (35%) and 37 women (65%), old on averag. of 59 ± 17 years. The averag. rate of haemog.obin was 11.4 ± 1.4 g.dL. Heart failure was de novo in 24 cases (42.1%), old in 33 cases (57.9%);it was g.obal in 54 cases (94.7%).The maintenance treatment associated diuretics in 32 cases (97%), ang.otensin-converting.enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) or ang.otensin II receptor blocker (ARB) in 31 cases (94%), beta-blockers in two cases (6.1%), dig.xin in four cases (12.1%), aspirin in five cases (15.1%) and anti-vitamin K in four cases (12.1%). Anemia was microcytic hypochromic in 30 cases (52.6%), normocytic normochromic in 20 cases (35.1%), and macrocytic normochromic in one case (1.7%). The main aetiolog.c factors were hemodilution in 46 cases (80.7%), renal insufficiency in 30 cases (52.3%), inflammation in 29 cases (50.8%), and iron deficiency in one case (1.7%). The HIV serolog., carried out in 11 cases, was neg.tive. Anemia is a frequent comorbidity among.heart failure patients. Aetiolog.c research remains difficult in our context, and its often multifactorial orig.n.
