Hydromagnetic flow between two porous disk. rotating with same angular velocity Ω about two noncoincident axes has been studied in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field. An exact solution of the governing equations has been obtained in a closed form. It is found that the primary velocity f/Ωl increases and the secondary velocity g/Ωl decreases with increase in either Reynolds number Re or the Hartman number M. It is also found that the torque at the disk.η= 0 increases with increase in either M^2 or k.2. On the other hand there is no torque at the disk.η= 1 for large M^2 and k.2. The heat transfer characteristic has also been studied on tak.ng viscous and Joule dissipation into account. It is seen that the temperature increases with increase in either M^2 or k.2. It is found that the rate of heat transfer at the disk.η= 0 increases with increase in either M or k. On the other hand the rate of heat transfer at the disk.η= 1 increases with increase in k.but decreases with increase in M.

Alterations in the biochemical parameters of the catfish treated with low sublethal con-centration (2. 15 mg' L- 1; 1/3 of 96h LC50 ) of a carbamate Pesticide-propoxur under staticlaboratory conditions for 10, 20 and 30 days were assayed. The fish elicited consistant hyper-glycemia, concomitant wiLh liver and muscle glycogenolysis, and hypoproteinemia in muscleand liver except 10 day pet exposure to the pesticide, where hyperproteinemia was noticed inthe liver. Throughout the exposure period the fish exhibited hyperphosphatemia. Hypocal-cemia were recorded after 20 and 30 days, and serum magnesium level increased significantlyonly at 30 day expoSure to the Pesticide

AIM: To study the gastroprotective effect and in vivo antioxidant potential of a standardized iridoid fraction from B. prionitis leaves(BPE) against different gastric ulcer models in rats. METHOD: The standardized iridoid fraction from BPE at 50, 100, and 200 mg/k. body weight was administered orally, twice daily for 5 days for prevention from aspirin, ethanol, cold-restraint stress(CRS), and pylorus ligation(PL)-induced ulcers. Estimation of the antioxidant enzyme activity was carried out in a CRS-induced ulcer model, and various gastric secretion parameters including volume of gastric juice, acid output, and pH value were estimated in the PL-induced ulcer model. RESULTS: BPE showed a dose-dependent ulcer protective effect in PL(18.67%–66.26% protection), aspirin(24.65%–63.25% protection), CRS(20.77%–59.42% protection), and EtOH(16.93%–77.04% protection)-induced ulcers. BPE treatment in PL-rats showed a decrease in acid-pepsin secretion, and enhanced mucin and mucosal glycoproteins. However, BPE reduced the ulcer index with significant decrease in LPO(P < 0.01–0.001), SOD(P < 0.01–0.001), and an increase in CAT(P < 0.01–0.001), activity in the CRS-induced model. CONCLUSION: The data shows that the iridoid fraction from BPE possesses anti-ulcerogenic and antioxidant potential.

Mineral phase characterization and thorough understanding of its transformation behavior during combustion are imperative to k.ow the potential utilization of coal in the thermal industries. The primary objective of this work.is to analyze the quality of Indian Coals and obtain their mineral species-specific information at different depths. The samples were obtained from Talcher Coalfield, Odisha, India. Coal from four seam sections in the Talcher coalfield, India are mainly high ash coal (>50 %) and volatile matter deceases along with the seam depth. XRD results show that the major mineral phases present in the coal are quartz and k.olinite. Siderite, illite, and anatase were found in minor quantities. It has been observed that the clay minerals (k.olinite, silimanite, illite) decompose at higher temperature and traces of dolomite, mullite, hematite etc. are formed during the process of combustion. Among the four seams (M2, M12, M24 and M43) studied, ash of M43 has high Al2O3%, TiO2% and k.O% content and low SiO2%, CaO% and MgO% content. High acid-to-base ratios contributed to high ash fusion temperatures (IDT > 1500 °C) and low slagging potential of the coals studied. Relatively low fouling index (k. place between 800 and 1500 °C during coal combustion.

Prediction of the residual strength of clay using functional network.

Landslides are common natural hazards occurring in most parts of the world and have considerable adverse economic effects. Residual shear strength of clay is one of the most important factors in the determination of stability of slopes or landslides. This effect is more pronounced in sensitive clays which show large changes in shear strength from peak.to residual states. This study analyses the prediction of the residual strength of clay based on a new prediction model, functional network.（FN） using data available in the literature. The performance of FN was compared with support vector machine（SVM） and artificial neural network.ANN） based on statistical parameters lik. correlation coefficient（R）, Nash–Sutcliff coefficient of efficiency（E）, absolute average error（AAE）, maximum average error（MAE） and root mean square error（RMSE）. Based on R and E parameters, FN is found to be a better prediction tool than ANN for the given data. However, the R and E values for FN are less than SVM. A prediction equation is presented that can be used by practicing geotechnical engineers. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to ascertain the importance of various inputs in the prediction of the output.

In this paper,we aim to systematically analyze the effectiveness of community based interventions(CBI)for the prevention and control of non-helminthic diseases including dengue,trypanosomiasis,chagas,leishmaniasis,buruli ulcer,leprosy and *** systematically reviewed literature published up to May 2013 and included 62 studies in this *** from our review suggest that CBI including insecticide spraying;insecticide treated bednets and curtains;community education and cleanliness campaigns;chemoprophylaxis through mass drug administration;and treatment have the potential to reduce the incidence and burden of non-helminthic *** of data limited the subgroup analysis for integrated and non-integrated delivery strategies however,qualitative synthesis suggest that integrated delivery is more effective when compared to vertical interventions;however,such integration was possible only because of the existing vertical vector control *** delivered interventions have the potential to achieve wider coverage and sustained community *** these diseases will require a multipronged approach including drug administration,health education,vector control and clean water and sanitation *** would require high level governmental commitment along with strong partnerships among major stak.holders.

Generally all morphological physical features of human body change throughout ones life span, the rates of change are not constant and there are certain ages when anthropometric characteristics reach its peak. The maturity of the anthropometric characteristics varies among populations/communities and sexes due to genetic mak.-up, environment and other concomitants. Present study examined the nature and extent of age related changes in anthropometric and body composition characteristics among the adult Bishnupriya Manipuris of Cachar district, Assam. Some anthropometric data and body composition characteristics analysed and compared between/among 5age cohorts to see age changes. Study results show significant age changes in some anthropometric characteristics and some body composition characteristics. However, age specific changes could not been determined due to small sample size.

The effect of NaCl with or without silicon on the growth and metabolism in rice seedlings cv. MTU1010 was studied. In these seedlings, the oxidative stress has been observed with NaCl treatments and the levels of proline, H2O2 and malondialdehyde contents were increased whereas catalase activity was decreased. NaCl exposure at 25 mM, 50 mM and 100 mM concentrations in the test seedlings resulted in an increase in both reducing and non-reducing sugar content. There was a decrease in starch contents and the activity of starch phosphorylase was increased. NaCl stress also affected the activities of different carbohydrate metabolizing enzymes. The activities of sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate synthase were increased, while the activity of acid invertase was decreased. Joint application of silicon with NaCl showed significant alterations on all parameters tested under the purview of NaCl treatment alone leading to better growth and metabolism in rice seedlings. Thus the use of silicon enriched fertilizers may help to grow healthy rice plants in NaCl rich soil.

Tunnelling related hazards are very common in the Himalayan terrain and a number of such instances have been reported. Several twin tunnels are being planned for transportation purposes which will require good understanding for prediction of tunnel deformation and surface settlement during the engineering life of the structure. The deformational behaviour, design of sequential excavation and support of any jointed rock.mass are challenging during underground construction. We have raised several commonly assumed issues while performing stability analysis of underground opening at shallow depth. For this purpose, k.inchi-mod Nerchowck.twin tunnels(Himachal Pradesh, India) are tak.n for in-depth analysis of the stability of two asymmetric tunnels to address the influence of topography, twin tunnel dimension and geometry. The host rock.encountered during excavation is composed mainly of moderately to highly jointed grey sandstone, maroon sandstone and siltstones. In contrast to equidimensional tunnels where the maximum subsidence is observed vertically above the centreline of the tunnel, the result from the present study shows shifting of the maximum subsidence away from the tunnel centreline. The maximum subsidence of 0.99 mm is observed at 4.54 m left to the escape tunnel centreline whereas the maximum subsidence of 3.14 mm is observed at 8.89 m right to the main tunnel centreline. This shifting clearly indicates the influence of undulating topography and inequidimensional noncircular tunnel.
