Emphysematous gastritis(EG)is a rare form of gastritis characterized by gastric wall *** is associated with a high mortality *** case report describes a patient with a history of atrial fibrillation treated with apixaban,prior stroke,and schizoaffective disorder who showed epigastric tenderness on ***,no peritonitis signs were recorded,and laboratory values revealed high lactate levels and the presence of adenovirus F40/*** computed tomography scan showed extensive portal venous gas in the left hepatic lobe of the liver,as well as pneumatosis involving the entire stomach,indicating *** diagnosis was histologically confirmed and initially managed medically,which proved inefficacious,necessitating surgical intervention in the form of a laparotomy and esophagojejunostomy with Roux-en-y *** case report suggests a potential association between EG and adenovirus F40/41–induced gastroenteritis,thereby emphasizing the challenging nature of *** underscores the need for comprehensive research to enhance our understanding of its underlying causes and effective treatment strategies.

Disinfection by-products（DBPs） are a complex mixture of compounds unintentionally formed as a result of disinfection processes used to treat drinking water. Effects of long-term exposure to DBPs are mostly unknown and were the subject of recent epidemiological studies. However,most bioanalytical methods focus on a select few DBPs. In this study, a new comprehensive bioanalytical method has been developed that can quantify mixtures of organic halogenated compounds, including DBPs, in human urine as total organic chlorine（TOCl）, total organic bromine（TOBr）, and total organic iodine（TOI）. The optimized method consists of urine dilution, adsorption to activated carbon, pyrolysis of activated carbon, absorption of gases in an aqueous solution, and halide analysis with ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Spike recoveries for TOCl, TOBr, and TOI measurements ranged between 78% and 99%. Average TOCl, TOBr, and TOI concentrations in five urine samples from volunteers who consumed tap water were 1850, 82, and 21.0 μg/L as X^-, *** who consumed spring water（control） had TOCl, TOBr, and TOI average concentrations in urine of 1090, 88, and 10.3 μg/L as X^-, respectively. TOCl and TOI in the urine samples from tap water consumers were higher than the control. However, TOBr was slightly lower in tap water urine samples compared to mineral water urine samples, indicating other sources of environmental exposure other than drinking water. A larger sample population that consumes tap water from different cities and mineral water is needed to determine TOCl, TOBr, and TOI exposure from drinking water.

Lead contamination in the City of Flint, MI has been well documented over the past two years, with lead levels above the EPA Action Level until summer 2016. This resulted from an ill-fated decision to switch from Detroit water（Lake Huron） with corrosion control, to Flint River water without corrosion control. Although lead levels are now closer to normal,reports of skin rashes have sparked questions surrounding tap water in some Flint *** study investigated the presence of contaminants, including disinfection by-products（DBPs）, in the hot tap water used for showering in the homes of residents in Flint. Extensive quantitative analysis of 61 regulated and priority unregulated DBPs was conducted in Flint hot and cold tap water, along with the analysis of 50 volatile organic compounds and a nontarget comprehensive, broadscreen analysis, to identify a possible source for the reported skin rashes. For comparison, chlorinated hot and cold waters from three other cities were also sampled, including Detroit, which also uses Lake Huron as its source *** showed that hot water samples generally contained elevated levels of regulated and priority unregulated DBPs compared to cold water samples, but trihalomethanes were still within regulatory limits. Overall, hot shower water from Flint was similar to waters sampled from the three other cities and did not have unusually high levels of DBPs or other organic chemicals that could be responsible for the skin rashes observed by residents. It is possible that an inorganic chemical or microbial contaminant may be responsible.

A tooth is a complex biological organ and consists of multiple tissues including the enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. Tooth loss is the most common organ failure. Can a tooth be regenerated？ Can adult stem cells be orchestrated to regenerate tooth structures such as the enamel, dentin, cementum and dental pulp, or even an entire tooth？ If not, what are the therapeutically viable sources of stem cells for tooth regeneration？ Do stem cells necessarily need to be taken out of the body, and manipulated ex vivo before they are transplanted for tooth regeneration？ How can regenerated teeth be economically competitive with dental implants？ Would it be possible to make regenerated teeth affordable by a large segment of the population worldwide？ This review article explores existing and visionary approaches that address some of the above-mentioned questions. Tooth regeneration represents a revolution in stomatology as a shift in the paradigm from repair to regeneration： repair is by metal or artificial materials whereas regeneration is by biological restoration. Tooth regeneration is an extension of the concepts in the broad field of regenerative medicine to restore a tissue defect to its original form and function by biological substitutes.

Objective:To determine which intrinsic and extrinsic exertional heat illness(EHI)risk factors exist in youth American football players and observe perceptual and physiological responses of players during events(games and practices).Methods:Cross-sectional cohort study observing 63 youth football players,varying in *** variables were league(weightrestricted(WR,n=27)and age-restricted(AR,n=36))and event *** variables were anthropometrics,work-to-rest ratio,and wet bulb globe *** variables included preparticipation examination and uniform configuration.A subset of 16 players participated in physiological variables(heart rate and gastrointestinal temperature).Data collection occurred on 7 AR and 8 WR nonconsecutive practices and the first 3 games of the ***:Mean values for anthropometric variables were higher(py greater for games,but ratios were significantly higher for practices(χ^2(1,111)=40.62;py of events(77%)observed were in black and red flag wet bulb globe temperature risk categories.A total of 57%of the players had a preparticipation examination,and up to 82%of events observed were in full *** gastrointestinal temperature and heart rate responses ranged widely and no players reached critical ***:Extrinsic(disproportionate work ratios,environmental conditions)and intrinsic(higher body mass index)EHI risk factors exist in youth *** risk factors may be influenced by event and league *** youth football organizations need to create thorough guidelines that address EHI risk factors for local leagues to adopt.

Arsenic contamination is a major environmental issue,as it may lead to serious health *** reduced trivalent formof inorganic arsenic,arsenite,is in generalmore toxic to plants comparedwith the fully oxidized pentavalent *** arsenite inplants hasbeenshown tobemediatedthrough a large subfamily of plant aquaglyceroporins,nodulin 26-like intrinsic proteins(NIPs).However,the efflux mechanisms,as well as themechanismof arsenite-induced root growth inhibition,remain poorly *** physiology,synchrotron imaging,and root transport assay approaches,we show that the cellular transport of trivalent arsenicals inArabidopsis thalianais stronglymodulatedbyPINFORMED2(PIN2)auxin efflux *** transport assay using radioactive arsenite,X-ray fluorescence imaging(XFI)coupled with X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS),and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry analysis revealed that pin2 plants accumulate higher concentrations of arsenite in roots comparedwith the *** the cellular level,arsenite specifically targets intracellular sorting of PIN2 and thereby alters the cellular auxin ***,loss of PIN2 function results in arsenite hypersensitivity in *** coupled with XAS further revealed that loss of PIN2 function results in specific accumulation of arsenical species,but not the other metals such as iron,zinc,or calcium in the root ***,these results suggest that PIN2 likely functions as an arsenite efflux transporter for the distribution of arsenical species in planta.

In this paper,the authors explore the implementation of the government mandate in Hong Kong to move from three-year to four-year undergraduate degree programs which include studies in general education(GE),through an analysis of policies and activities related to the curriculum *** the authors are interested in the substance of these reforms,the primary objective is to explore the relationships between policy initiatives and implementation approaches at different *** Scott’s(2001)new institutional theory as a framework,the authors discuss the policy implementation at the governmental,institutional norms,and cultural *** focusing on the complex interrelationships among influences at different levels within the institution,this paper identifies challenges in the implementation of the new four-year curriculum,and using a case study of one institution,offers suggestions for facilitating that implementation.
