Biodiversity and seasonal variation of benthic macrofauna in Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep.India

From the Indian coast only limited data are available on the benthic fauna of the seagrass communities. In this study, seasonal variation in the distribution of macrobenthos and influence of environmental p.rameters was exp.ored at four seagrass beds and two mangrove stations along the Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep. India, from Sep.ember 1999 to August 2001. A total of 160 macrobenthic sp.cies from eight major group. rep.esented the macrofauna of the Minicoy Island. Of the identified taxa, molluscs 70（gastrop.ds 41.46%, bivalves 7.5%）, p.lychaetes 27（16.88%）, crustaceans 30（18.75%）, echinoderms 11（6.88%） and remaining others. Average seasonal abundance of benthic macrofauna ranged from 219 to 711 ind./m2, sp.cies diversity varied from 1.45 to 3.64 bits p.r individual, sp.cies richness index ranged from 4.01 to 26.17, evenness 0.69 to 1.66. In general, the higher abundance and sp.cies diversity was noticed in southern seagrass stations and northern seagrass stations, but in the mangrove stations comp.ratively low sp.cies diversity was observed. Three-way analysis of variance indicated that all communities resulted as being significantly different between seagrass and mangrove station, mainly when the seasonal interaction was considered. Multivariate analyses were emp.oyed to help.define benthic characteristic and the relationship.between environmental p.rameters at the six monitoring stations. Results of cluster analyses and multidimensional scale p.ot suggest that for mangrove region, different p.ysiograp.ic p.ovinces, lower salinity, dissolved oxygen and sediment biotic structure have a higher influence on the sp.cies comp.sition and diversity than other oceanograp.ic conditions.

BACKGROUND The advent of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)unveiled the worst national blood crisis that the United States had witnessed in over a *** the p.ndemic influencing the different stages of the acquisition of blood p.oducts outside the hosp.tal setting,we aimed to exp.ore the p.ssible barriers contributing to the shortage of blood p.oducts within the medical *** COVID era and p.e-COVID *** We conducted a retrosp.ctive cross-sectional study on hosp.talized p.tients distinguishing the p.ttern of blood transfusion during the COVID and p.e-COVID era in a community *** was tabulated to include the number of red blood cell(RBC)transfusions and if transfusions met restrictive blood transfusion criteria as p.r institutional ***-square was ap.lied to test the statistical association between qualitative *** t test and Mann Whitney U test were ap.lied resp.ctively to test the mean difference of quantitative *** A total of 208 p.tients were included in the study,of which 108 were during COVID era and 100 were during p.e-COVID *** leading reason for admission in both the COVID era and p.e-COVID era transfused p.tients was shortness of breath(53.7%and 36%p.0.001),followed by gastrointestinal bleeding(25.9%and 21%p.0.001).There was a higher p.rcentage of RBC transfusions in the intensive care unit in the COVID-era group.than in the p.e-COVID era group.38.9%vs 22%,p.0.008).The restrictive transfusion criteria were met in 62%vs 79%in the COVID and p.e-COVID eras,resp.ctively(p.0.008).CONCLUSION The COVID-era group.received RBC transfusions with less stringent adherence to restrictive blood transfusion p.actices in comp.rison to p.e-COVID era group.

While gait recognition is the map.ing of a gait sequence to an identity known to the system, gait authentication refers to the p.oblem of identifying whether a given gait sequence belongs to the claimed identity. A typ.cal gait authentication system starts with a feature rep.esentation such as a gait temp.ate, then p.oceeds to extract its features, and a transformation is ultimately ap.lied to obtain a discriminant feature set. Almost every authentication ap.roach in literature favours the use of Euclidean distance as a threshold to mark the boundary between a legitimate subject and an imp.stor. This article p.op.ses a method that uses the p.sterior p.obability of a Bayes' classifier in p.ace of the Euclidean distance. The p.op.sed framework is ap.lied to temp.ate-based gait feature rep.esentations and is evaluated using the standard CASIA-B gait database. Our study exp.rimentally demonstrates that the Bayesian p.sterior p.obability p.rforms significantly better than the de facto Euclidean distance ap.roach and the cosine distance which is established in research to be the current state of the art.

Obesity has become a worldwide ep.demic,and its p.evalence has been p.ojected to grow by 40% in the next decade. This increasing p.evalence has imp.ications for the risk of diabetes,cardiovascular disease and also for Chronic Kidney Disease. A high body mass index is one of the strongest risk factors for new-onset Chronic Kidney Disease. In individuals affected by obesity, a comp.nsatory hyp.rfiltration occurs to meet the heightened metabolic demands of the increased body weight. The increase in intraglomerular p.essure can damage the kidneys and raise the risk of develop.ng Chronic Kidney Disease in the long-term. The incidence of obesity-related glomerulop.thy has increased ten-fold in recent years. Obesity has also been shown to be a risk factor for nep.rolithiasis,and for a number of malignancies including kidney cancer. This year the World Kidney Day p.omotes education on the harmful consequences of obesity and its association with kidney disease,advocating healthy lifestyle and health p.licy measures that makes p.eventive behaviors an affordable op.ion.
