BACKGROUND The association between the intestinal microbiota and psychiatric disorders is becoming increasingly *** gut microbiota contributes to colorectal carcinogenesis(CRC),as demonstrated with colibactin-producing Escherichia coli(CoPEC).AIM To evaluate the association between CoPEC prevalence and anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors with both preclinical and clinical *** Patients followed after a CRC surgery and for whom the prevalence of CoPEC has been investigated underwent a psychiatric *** were compared according to the CoPEC *** parallel C57BL6/J wild type mice and mice with a CRC susceptibility were chronically infected with a CoPEC *** behavior was assessed using the Elevated Plus Maze test,the Forced Swimming Test and the Behavior recognition system PhenoTyper®.RESULTS In a limited cohort,all patients with CoPEC colonization presented with psychiatric disorders several years before cancer diagnosis,whereas only one patient(17%)without CoPEC *** result was confirmed in C57BL6/J wildtype mice and in a CRC susceptibility mouse model(adenomatous polyposis colimultiple intestinal neoplasia/+).Mice exhibited a significant increase in anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors after chronic infection with a CoPEC *** This finding provides the first evidence that CoPEC infection can induce microbiota-gut-brain axis disturbances in addition to its procarcinogenic properties.

LOD score exclusion analyses for candidate disease susceptibility genes using case-parents design

The focus of almost all the association studies of candidate genes is to test for their importance. We recently developed a LOD score approach that can be used to test against the importance of candidate genes for complex diseases and quantitative traits in random samples. As a complementary method to regular association analyses, our LOD score approach is powerful but still affected by the population admixture, though it is more conservative. To control the confounding effect of population heterogeneity, we develop here a LOD score exclusion analysis using case-parents design, the basic design of the transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) approach that is immune to population admixture. In the analysis, specific genetic effects and inheritance models at candidate genes can be analyzed and if a LOD score is ≤ - 2. 0, the locus can be excluded from having an effect larger than that specified. Simulations show that this approach has reasonable power to exclude a candidate gene having small genetic effects if it is not a disease susceptibility locus (DSL) with sample size often employed in TDT studies. Similar to association analyses with the TDT in nuclear families, our exclusion analyses are generally not affected by population admixture. The exclusion analyses may be implemented to rule out candidate genes with no or minor genetic effects as supplemental analyses for the TDT. The utility of the approach is illustrated with an application to test the importance of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene underlying the differential risk to osteoporosis.

A new visual acuity test on touchpad for vision screening in children

AIM:To validate a visual acuity(va)test application on touchpad in the screening of pediatric population by comparing va results obtained with conventional ***:A cohort of 101 patients,44 girls and 57 boys with a median of 6.5 years old(3-10 years of age),presenting for eye examinations in Ophthalmology Department(Strasbourg,France)between November 1st,2018,and February 1st,2019 were *** and binocular va testing was performed on the subject using both a standard test and the touchpad application(Monoyer,"E"or,Pigassou depending of children s capacities).Patients were excluded if they were physically or mentally unable to use the *** duration of each tests,the painfulness,the comprehension,the attention of children during the test and test’s preferences were also ***:There was a good linear correlation and intra-class correlation coefficient[ICC=0.50(0.***.0.64)for binocular acuity,0.74(0.***.0.82)for right eyes and 0.525(0.***.0.66)for left eye].The standard errors of measurement were very low(0.***.0.05.0.08 for binocular va,right eyes va and left eyes va,respectively).There was no difference between two tests for right eye(P=0.126);left eye(P=0.098)and binocular acuity(P=0.085).Non inferiority was proved for all binocular[-0.06(-0.09.-0.03)],right eye[-0.04(-0.07.-0.01)]and left eye[-0.06(-0.09,-0.02)]*** sensitivity and specificity,which correspond to the ability for our app to detect amblyopia,were 92%and 80%***:Our touchpad application represents an efficient and valid test of va in children with a high specificity to detect visual impairment.

Medication Side Effect Profiles in PD Patients in a Safety-net Hospital

Background: Compulsive behavior, dyskinesias, motor fluctuations, and hallucinations are common Parkinson’s disease (PD) medication side effects. These are yet to be examined in relation to race and level of education. The goal of this analysis was to identify socioeconomic or clinical variables that are associated with compulsive behavior, dyskinesias, motor fluctuations, and hallucinations in patients in a safety-net hospital. Methods: A movement disorder patient database containing 452 patients with idiopathic PD was analyzed for differences in PD medication side effects using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Race, sex, and level of education were evaluated as possible confounders. Results: A greater proportion of the patients in this study were Caucasian males. The only variable associated with compulsive behavior was age, with higher age having a protective effect (p = 0.0336). Disease duration (defined as time since the onset of symptoms), diagnosis duration (time since formal diagnosis), and level of education were significantly associated with dyskinesia inunivariate analysis (p =y). However, diagnosis duration was the only variable significantly associated with dyskinesia in multivariate analysis (p = 0.0038), in addition to a borderline significant association when comparing individuals with graduate degree to those who had completed high school education or less (p = 0.0599), with a protective effect of higher education. Disease duration, diagnosis duration, and use of monoamineoxidase inhibitors were also significantly associated with motor fluctuations in the univariate analysis, while only diagnosis duration was significantly associated with motor fluctuations in multivariate analysis (p = 0.0035) with longer diagnosis duration associated with higher risk of motor fluctuations. Bridge Pressure Flow Scour at Clear Water Threshold Condition

Bridge pressure flow scour at clear water threshold condition is studied theoretically and *** flume experiments reveal that the measured scour profiles under a bridge are more or less 2-dimensional;all the measured scour profiles can be described by two similarity equations,where the horizontal distance is scaled by the deck width while the local scour by the maximum scour depth;the maximum scour position is located just under the bridge about 15% deck width from the downstream deck edge;the scour begins at about one deck width upstream the bridge while the deposition occurs at about 2.5 deck widths downstream the bridge;and the maximum scour depth decreases with increas-ing sediment size,but increases with deck *** theoretical analysis shows that:bridge scour can be divided into three cases,*** unsubmerged,partially submerged,and totally *** downstream unsubmerged flows,the maximum bridge scour depth is an open-channel problem where the conventional methods in terms of critical velocity or bed shear stress can be applied;for partially and totally submerged flows,the equilibrium maximum scour depth can be described by a scour and an inundation similarity number,which has been confirmed by experiments with two decks and two sediment *** application,a design and field evaluation procedure with examples is presented,including the maximum scour depth and scour profile.

PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism in detection of yMDD variants of viral polymerase in hepatitis B virus patients treated with lamivudine

Objective: To analyse the emergence of yMDD motif(tyrosine-methionine-aspartate-aspartate) variants inpatients with hepatitis B treated with ***: The amino acid substitution from methio-nine or isoleucine at the yMDD motif at the HBVpolymerase gene is a main mutation resistant to lami-vudine treatment. Generated from a fragment of do-main C of the polymerase gene, patients HBV DNA,which had been positive previously became positive a-gain ever since it had been negative during lamivudi-ne therapy. variants were detected by cleavage of theproducts of the three PCRs with following enzymes:FokI, SspI, Alw441. The results of PCR-RELP wereanalysed by 8. 4% polypropylene acidemide gel elec-trophoresis. PCR-RFLP assay was compared to di-rect ***: HBV DNA was positive again in 33 patientsand positive for one.year in 2 patients. yMDD vari-ants were detected in serum 14 of 35 patients, yIDDvariants in 4, yVDD variants in 6, and yI/MDD va-riants in 1; all were in concordance with the resultsof direct sequencing. The samples of other 3 patientsshowed yI/VDD mutations, as shown by direct se-quencing. The results of PCR-RFLP assay of themixed sera of yIDD and yVDD variants were similarto those sera of yI/VDD ***: PCR-RFLP is suitable for rapid detec-tion of yMDD variants of viral polymerase in hepati-tis B virus patients treated with lamivudine.

This paper summarizes research related to the 2012 record drought in the central United States conducted by members of the neWS (NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Energy and Water cycle Study) Working Group. Past drought patterns were analyzed for signal coherency with latest drought and the contribution of long-term trends in the Great Plains low-level jet, an important regional circulation feature of the spring rainy season in the Great Plains. Long-term changes in the seasonal transition from rainy spring into dry summer were also examined. Potential external forcing from radiative processes, soil-air interactions, and ocean teleconnections were assessed as contributors to the intensity of the drought. The atmospheric Rossby wave activity was found to be a potential source of predictability for the onset of drought. A probabilistic model was introduced and evaluated for its performance in predicting drought recovery in the Great Plains.
