Effect of TiO₂ Filler Loading on Physico-Mechanical Properties and Abrasion of Jute Fabric Reinforced Epoxy Composites

Mechanical properties and abrasive wear behaviour of bi-directional jute fabric reinforced epoxy (J/Ep) with micron sized TiO2 particles at different wt% (2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10) were investigated. The tribo-potential of combined effect of TiO2 and jute fiber in epoxy (J/Ep) for enhancing the abrasion resistance has not been studied so far. Hence, the present work aims to explore the possibility of using TiO2 filler and jute fiber to reinforce the epoxy and thus open a new way to implement inexpensive reinforcements and produce new candidate tribo-material for industrial applications. Silane treated TiO2 filled J/Ep composites were prepared by hand lay-up method. Selected mechanical properties and three-body abrasive wear tests were evaluated as per ASTM standards. Results indicate an enhancement in the J/Ep composite mechanical properties due to addition of TiO2 particles up to 7.5 wt% of loading. Highest tensile and flexural properties were found at 7.5 wt% TiO2 loading. Results of abrasion tests show resistance to abrasion at 5 wt% TiO2 filled J/Ep composite. Scanning electron micrographs evidenced that the fiber and filler have fairly good bonding with matrix. Finally, this investigation confirms the applicability of TiO2 as secondary reinforcement in J/Ep composite.

ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL, ALK-) is a CD30+ T-cell neoplasm composed of large lymphoid cells with abundant cytoplasm and pleomorphic nuclei that lacks expression of ALK protein. We describe a case of ALCL, ALK-with primary involvement of the rectum in a 37 year old man, where the original diagnosis was established based on a colonoscopic biopsy. T-cell lymphomas are rare in the colorectal area and besides ALCL, their differential diagnosis includes enteropathic T-cell lymphoma, peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified, NK/T cell lymphoma, or NK-cell enteropathy. In addition, syncytial variant of classical Hodgkin lymphoma or a pleomorphic CD30-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma should also be ruled out. We discuss pitfalls of the differential diagnosis and review the literature of anaplastic large cell lymphoma in the gastrointestinal tract. Correct diagnosis of ALCL in the colon is important to avoid a colorectal surgery for an assumed adenocarcinoma, and to open the possibility for lymphoma-directed chemotherapy.

Effect of FFD-410 (HiOwna-Jr.), a Balanced Herbal Nutritional Supplement on Biochemical, Hematological, Immunological and Cognitive Parameters of Wistar Rats

Present study was aimed to evaluate the effect HiOwna-Jr. (FFD-410) on vital biochemical, hematological, immunological and cognitive functions in rats;also in vitro antioxidant studies were carried out to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of FFD-410. Animals of respective groups were treatment with FFD-410 for 90 days and blood samples were collected for the estimation of biochemical, hematological parameters and serum immunoglobulin levels;haemoagglutination assay was carried out using Sheep Red blood cells (SRBC’s). In addition, effect of FFD-410 on cognition and memory was evaluated by modified elevated plus maze test. Apart from in vivo studies, in vitro studies such as DPPH radical scavenging assay, reducing power assay and ORAC assays were carried out to evaluate the free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity of FFD-410. Pretreatment with FFD-410 for 90 days did not bring about any change in serum biochemical and hematological parameters and relative organ weights etc., which could account for its wide safety margin at tested dose levels (2.5 and 5.0 g/kg, p.o.). However, FFD-410 showed potent immunostimulant activity by elevating the serum immunoglobulins and haemoagglutination titer values, also the pretreatment with FFD-410 showed dose dependent improvement in short-term cognition and memory in elevated plus maze test. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant studies FFD-410 exhibited significant and dose dependent free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity as assessed by DPPH (IC50 value of 1162.6 μg/ml), reducing power and ORAC assays (Trolox equivalence/g of 76.1). These findings suggest that, FFD-410 possess very good antioxidant, cognition improving and potent immunostimulant properties. Colonoscopy is the gold standard test for colorectal cancer screening. The primary advantage of colonoscopy as opposed to other screening modalities is the ability to provide therapy by removal of precancerous lesions at the time of detection. However, colonoscopy may miss clinically important neoplastic polyps. The value of colonoscopy in reducing incidence of colorectal cancer is dependent on many factors including, the patient, provider, and facility level. A high quality examination includes adequate bowel preparation, optimal colonoscopy technique, meticulous inspection during withdrawal, identification of subtle flat lesions, and complete polypectomy. Considerable variation among institutions and endoscopists has been reported in the literature. In attempt to diminish this disparity, various approaches have been advocated to improve the quality of colonoscopy. The overall impact of these interventions is not yet well defined. Implementing optimal education and training and subsequently analyzing the impact of these endeavors in improvement of quality will be essential to augment the utility of colonoscopy for the prevention of colorectal cancer.

目的:研究一种草药复方制剂Bresol对于肥大细胞脱颗粒以及组胺释放的保护作用。方法:使用大鼠腹膜内肥大细胞,在体外经化合物48/80诱导肥大细胞脱颗粒及组胺释放,评估Bresol稳定肥大细胞的作用。结果:显微镜下正常对照组涂片显示较多完整的肥大细胞,有极少量的脱颗粒肥大细胞和微量的组胺释放。阳性对照组中用化合物48/80培养的肥大细胞出现了显著的肥大细胞脱颗粒现象以及高浓度的组胺释放。而100mg/L浓度的Bresol明显抑制了化合物48/80诱导的肥大细胞脱颗粒。此外,Bresol可有效抑制化合物48/80诱导的组胺释放,且抑制效果与剂量有关。结论:Bresol能够在体外抑制化合物48/80诱导的肥大细胞脱颗粒和组胺释放。本研究的发现可解释Bresol对多种过敏疾病有效可能是通过一种非免疫机制。
