The obes.ty pandemic is.widely regarded as.major health challenge for modern s.ciety. This.multi-organ dis.rder is.linked to the development of a number of prevalent dis.as.s. s.ch as.type 2 diabetes. cardiovas.ular and liver dis.as.s. including primary liver cancer (1). The hepatic manifes.ations.of obes.ty are collectively called non-alcoholic fatty liver dis.as. (NAFLD) (2). The increas.d prevalence of NAFLD parallels.the global obes.ty pandemic and is.predicted to be the larges. caus. of liver trans.lantations.(1). The term NAFLD encompas.es.different dis.as. s.ates. ranging from s.mple s.eatos.s.(NAFL) to more s.vere forms.of liver dis.as. s.ch as.non-alcoholic s.eatohepatitis.(NAs.), with various.degree of fibros.s.(3). NAs. may progres. to cirrhos.s.and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (4). Although NAs. aris.ng from fatty liver dis.as. s.ems.to be an underlying les.on for s.me HCC cas.s. the extent to which the pres.nce or the s.verity of NAs. explains.obes.ty-related HCC remains.unclear (5). Moreover, HCC is.increas.ngly diagnos.d among obes. individuals.independent of NAs. and cirrhos.s.(6), s.gges.ing that cirrhos.s.is.not neces.ary for the development of HCC in obes.ty. Dis.ribution Pattern of Vas.ular Plant s.ecies.of Mountains.in Nepal and their Fate Agains. Global Warming

This.s.udy aims.to find the altitudinal dis.ribution pattern of vas.ular plant s.ecies.reported from high mountain of Nepal(Manang) along the whole Himalayan elevation gradient, and evaluate their fate agains. climate change. Data was.gathered from multiple s.urces. field inves.igations. literatures. and herbarium s.ecimens. Altogether, 303 vas.ular plant s.ecies.were reported from Manang. We us.d a publis.ed data to calculate dis.ribution range of each s.ecies.by interpolating between its.upper and lower elevation limits. The relations.ip between elevation and s.ecies.richnes. is.elucidated by generalized linear model. The cons.quence of global warming upon Manang's.vas.ular plant s.ecies.was.es.imated bas.d on projected temperature change for next century and adiabatic laps. rate along the elevation gradient of the Himalayas. The vas.ular plant s.ecies.richnes. has.a unimodel relations.ip with elevation along the whole elevation gradient of Nepal as.well as.in three biogeographical regions.of Nepal. Vas.ular plants.of Manang are found dis.ributed from low land Terai to high alpine regions.of Nepal and their elevation dis.ribution range varies.from 200 to 4700 m. Out of 303 vas.ular plants.of Manang, only s.ven s.ecies.might be affected if temperature increas. by 1.5°C, whereas.at leas. 70 s.ecies.will be affected with 5°C temperature increas.d. However, the majority of s.ecies.233 s.ecies. have wider dis.ribution range(> 1000 m) and more than 5°C temperature tolerance range, thus.they are likely to be les. affected from global warming by the end of 21 s. century.

Optical and Dielectric s.udies.on L-Valinium Picrate s.ngle Crys.al

s.ngle crys.als.of L-Valinium picrate were grown from aqueous.s.lution by s.ow evaporation technique. s.ngle crys.al X-ray diffraction analys.s.reveals.that the crys.al belongs.to monoclinic s.s.em. The optical trans.is.ion s.udy reveals.the trans.arency of the crys.al in the entire vis.ble region and the cut off wave length has.been found to be 470 nm. The optical band gap is.found to be 2.55 eV. The trans.ittance of L-Valinium picrate crys.al has.been us.d to calculate the refractive index (n), the extinction coefficient (K) and both the real (εr) and imaginary (εi) components.of the dielectric cons.ant as.functions.of wavelength. Low dielectric los. at high frequency region is.indicative of enhanced optical quality with les.er defects. Photoconductivity meas.rements.carried out on the grown crys.al reveal the negative photoconducting nature.

Optically trans.arent and bulk s.ngle crys.al of l-his.idine hydrochloride monohydrate (LHHC) was.s.cces.fully grown by s.ow evaporation technique. The cell parameters.and the crys.allinity of the grown crys.al were es.imated by the s.ngle-crys.al. Optical trans.ittance of the crys.al was.recorded us.ng the UV–vis.NIR s.ectrophotometer. The optical band gap and optical cons.ant of the material were determined by us.ng trans.is.ion s.ectrum. The dielectric los. and dielectric cons.ant meas.rements.as.a function of frequency and temperature were meas.red for the grown crys.al.

An Apprais.l of Fluoride Dis.ribution and Ionic Balance in Ground Water of Mundaragi Taluk, Gadag Dis.rict, Karnataka, India: A Cas. s.udy

A total, 25 different ground-water s.mples.collected in Mundaragi taluk in of Gadag dis.rict, Karnataka, India to apprais. the dis.ribution of Fluoride. pH of collected groundwater is shown alkaline in nature and ranged between 7.18 and 9.32 with a mean value of 8.36. Fluoride content ranged between 0.86 to 4.63 mg/L in ground water samples, with minimum value 0.86 mg/L (MGK24) and maximum value 4.63 mg/L (MGK20). 48% of samples indicated fluoride content below 1.4 mg/L and 32% samples indicated fluoride content in between 2.0 and 3.0 mg/L. Followed by 8% of the samples showed fluoride content ranges above 3.1. The public from villagers have been used high fluoride-bearing groundwater for drinking prolonged period and suffering from fluorosis. Analytical values also predict that occurrence of minerals like apatite, fluorspar, topaz and mica gets processed naturally and releases fluoride into the lithosphere and percolates into ground water. The present study also helps find out a suitable adsorbent for removal of Fluoride in ground water. However, with respect to chemistry of water, the cation and anion balance of all the 25 groundwater samples were inside the recognized limit of ±10%.
