New discriminant-function-based multidimensional discrimination of mid-ocean ridge and oceanic plateau

From a compilation of geochemical data for the discrimination of the tectonic settings of mid-ocean ridge(MOR;3730 samples)and oceanic plateau(Op;3656 samples),we present two new discriminant functions and diagrams obtained from censored multivariate discordant outlier-free *** different sets of data(original concentrations as well as isometric log-ratio transformed(ilr)variables;all 10 major(M)elements as well as all 10 major and 6 trace elements MT)were used to evaluate the quality of discrimination from linear discriminant analysis(LDA)and canonical *** selected multidimensional models ilrM(9 ilr transformed variables of multi-normally distributed 10 major elements)and ilrMT(15 ilr transformed variables of multi-normally distributed combined 10 major and 6 trace elements),considered as the best or most representative(total of5650 samples for ilrM and 2858 for ilrMT),provided percent success values,respectively,of 80.9%for the MOR and 81.1%for the Op(ilrM)and 88.5%for the MOR and 90.1%for the Op(ilrMT).Both processes(log-ratio transformation and multi-normality)rendered the percent success values similar for both groups(MOR and Op).The respective discriminant functions were successfully used for four tests from known tectonic settings and four application cases(two for ophiolites and two for precambrian rocks),documenting thus the utility of the new discrimination procedure for the MOR and Op tectonic ***,we showed that our multidimensional procedure is robust against analytical errors or uncertainties,as well as post-emplacement compositional changes caused by element mobility from both low or high temperature *** robustness against the gain or loss of a single element at a time was also documented,from which the ilrMT model was evaluated as more robust than the ilrM model.A new online computer program MOROpdisc was written in Java Framework ZK,which is freely available for use at our web portal http://***

Microbially induced carbonate precipitation(MICp)is a promising technique for the autonomous healing of concrete *** this study,the effect of pH on MICp was *** results indicate that the MICp process was inhibited when the pH was higher than *** vaterite and calcite were produced when the pH wasproduced when the pH was>*** concrete aggregates(RCA)coated with sodium silicate have been proposed as protective carriers for microbial healing *** the presence of the coated RCA resulted in a loss of the splitting tension strength of the concrete,the loaded healing agents were highly efficient in self-healing *** incorporated with 20%RCA loaded with healing agents exhibited the best self-healing *** the initial crack widths were between 0.3 and 0.4 mm,the 7-d mean healing rate was approximately 90%.At 28 d,the crack area filling ratio was 86.4%,while its water tightness recovery ratio was 74.4%and 29.8%,respectively,for rapid and slow *** study suggests that RCA coated with sodium silicate is an effective method for packaging microbial healing agents and has great potential for developing cost-effective self-healing concrete.

A novel diurnal and seasonal variation analysis of BTEX in Bengaluru urban area

In the urban atmosphere of Bengaluru, various volatile organic compounds(VOCs), particularly Benzene,Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene(BTEX), have shown an increasing trend in concentration. The present research was conducted during summer and monsoon seasons, focusing on Kadubeesanahalli, a high-traffic area within the Bengaluru Metropolitan City. Hourly sample data was collected using a BTEX analyzer(Model GC955-600) and subsequently transformed into daily, monthly, and seasonal values. The study revealed distinct patterns in benzene concentrations. Benzene levels were lowest during the early morning hours, specifically from 1:00 *** 7:00 a.m.. Concentrations then increased from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.,corresponding to the morning and evening peak traffic hours. However, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the concentration decreased due to reduced traffic levels. These diurnal variations in benzene concentration are influenced by meteorological parameters. Comparing the two seasons, higher concentrations of Benzene, EthylBenzene, and Mp-xylene were observed during the summer season. This increase is attributed to the elevated temperatures during summer, which promote the vaporization of BTEX compounds. Conversely, lower BTEX concentrations were recorded during the monsoon season due to the wet deposition process. The observed positive correlation(r > 0.5) among BTEX parameters strongly suggests a common source, most likely originating from vehicular emissions.

Excitons,bound electron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic inorganic perovskites(2D HOIps)are capable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exciton-polaritons(E–ps)when the excitonic medium is confined in an optical *** the case of 2D HOIps,they can self-hybridize into E–ps at specific thicknesses of the HOIp crystals that form a resonant optical cavity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–ps in 2D HOIps,including their role in ultrafast energy and/or charge transfer at interfaces,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thick 2D HOIp crystals on Au substrates are capable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–p *** E–ps have high Q factors(>100)and modulate the optical dispersion for the crystal to enhance sub-gap absorption and *** varying excitation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also confirm energy transfer from higher energy E–ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–ps are capable of charge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into charge and energy transfer in E–ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic devices.

Influence of slope position and aspect on the vegetation attributes and treewater relations in forests of the central Himalayas

While the need for understanding the effects of topographical factors on forest structure and function is well recognized,comprehensive studies are *** study evaluates the effect of slope aspect and slope position on water relations and forest attributes across six forest types occurring between 400 m and 2600 m altitude in the Central Himalaya(27°-38°N).We found that predawn tree water potential and soil water potential were generally higher on moist north slope aspect(-0.78±0.05 Mpa and-3.34±0.18 Mpa,respectively)than dry south slope aspect(-0.82±0.18 Mpa and-3.77±0.18 Mpa,respectively).Across six different forests,these values were higher at hill base(-0.71±0.06 Mpa and-2.77±0.19 Mpa,tree predawn water potential and soil water potential,respectively)than other topographical *** favorable effect of north aspect and hill base was also observed in maintaining soil water and tree water potential during the dry *** attributes,such as species richness,unique species and plant density were also generally higher on north slope and hill base than southern aspect and lowest at hill *** forest types,the hill base provided shelter to 46 unique species,compared to 16-18 at the other positions,thus emphasizing its importance as refugia for species to survive climate change induced *** favorable conditions of hill base position not only contribute to increase in alpha diversity,but also to extended species distributional range.

Evaluation of Various Modification Methods for Enhancing the performance of Recycled Concrete Aggregate

Due to the existence of the attached mortar,the performance of the recycled concrete aggregate(RCA)is inferior to the natural aggregate,which significantly limits its wide application in *** this study,five kinds of modified solutions were used to modify the surface of RCA,and the modification effects were *** results showed that sodium silicate,nano-silica(NS),Bacillus pasteurii and soybean powder had relatively good modification effects on RCA,which could reduce the crushing value and water absorption,and increase apparent *** composite solution(15%sodium silicate and 2%NS)and soybean powder solution had better modification *** 28 d compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of recycled aggregate concrete(RAC)prepared by RCA modified by soybean powder solution were 4.6%and 5.2%higher than those prepared by RCA modified by composite solution,*** indicates that among the five kinds of modified solutions,soybean powder solution has the best modification effect on RCA,and the optimal soaking time of soybean powder solution is 8 *** this time,the crushing value,water absorption and apparent density of RCA are 12.8%,5.3%,and 2653 kg/m^(3),*** research results of this study provide a reference for the modification of RCA and its efficient utilization.

Impact of invasive Ageratina adenophora on relative performance of woody vegetation in different forest ecosystems of Kumaun Himalaya,India

Invasive plant Ageratina adenophora(Sprengel)***&*** has invaded majority of the temperate forests in Kumaun,Central *** on *** invaded forest types,their structural attributes,population demography and regeneration status are still at rudimentary *** this,the present study was conducted to assess the impacts of *** on vegetational attributes and regeneration status of three forest types,viz.,Oak(Quercus oblongata ***),pine(pinus roxburghii Sarg.)and Cypress(Cupressus torulosa ***).We selected three sites for each forest type and each site was further purposively stratified into paired sampling plots of 1 ha each i.e.,*** invaded and uninvaded *** results showed large densities of cut stumps or felled trees throughout invaded sites,but with fewer fire signs in comparison to uninvaded *** uninvaded sites,total density and basal area calculated for woody species were relatively higher than those in invaded sites,although results were insignificant(p>0.05).With the exception for Cypress forests,vegetation indices showed low woody species richness and diversity in invaded Oak and pine ***,regeneration of ***,*** and *** tree species did not differ significantly(p>0.05)between invaded and uninvaded *** insignificant differences clearly imply that ***'s presence has not entirely changed the perennial plant communities in terms of composition,structure and natural ***,tree species with poor or no regeneration status requires special attention and needs management strategies involving control of invasive species in forest ecosystems.

pathological abnormalities in splenic vasculature in non-cirrhotic portal hypertension:Its relevance in the management of portal hypertension
