Extraction of rare earth elements from neodymium(NdFeB) magnet scrap using magnesium halides

The demand for neodymium（NdFeB） permanent magnets for electric vehicles and eco-friendly generators is ***,NdFeB magnets contain rare earth elements（REEs）,which are limited in *** this study,we performed an exchange reaction between magnesium halides（fluoride and chloride） and waste NdFeB scrap and then compared the characteristics of the extracted halides *** compositions of the ternary Mg fluoride（LiF:NaF:MgF2=50:40:10 in mole ratio） and chloride（LiCl:NaCl:MgCl2=10:50:40 in mole ratio） salts were thermodynamically determined for achieving low eutectic *** reactions between the NdFeB scrap powder（1-2 mm） and Mg halide salts were carried out at 1073 and 873 K for the fluoride and chloride systems,respectively,in an argon *** the reaction,we separated Nd halide from the residual salt and evaluated the Ndextraction *** phase formation of the salt was analyzed using X-ray diffraction（XRD）,and the extraction rate of Nd was analyzed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy（ICPOES）.Nd was extracted in the form of Nd halide（NdF3or NdCl3）,and the extraction rates in the fluoride and chloride systems are 98.64% and 84.59%,***,the fluoride system is more effective than the chloride system for Nd *** study provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of the effectiveness of fluo ride and chlo ride systems in extracting REEs from NdFeB magnet *** study findings can be used to develop an effective method for recycling magnet scraps.

All-solid-state batteries(ASSBs)are pursued due to their potential for better safety and high energy ***,the energy density of the cathode for ASSBs does not seem to be satisfactory due to the low utilization of active materials(AMs)at high *** small amount of solid electrolyte(SE)powder in the cathode,poor electrochemical performance is often observed due to contact loss and non-homogeneous distribution of AMs and SEs,leading to high tortuosity and limitation of lithium and electron transport ***,we propose a novel cathode design that can achieve high volumetric energy density of 1258 Wh L^(-1)at high AM content of 85 wt%by synergizing the merits of AM@SE core–shell composite particles with conformally coated thin SE shell prepared from mechanofusion process and small SE *** core–shell structure with an intimate and thin SE shell guarantees high ionic conduction pathway while unharming the electronic *** addition,small SE particles play the role of a filler that reduces the packing porosity in the cathode composite electrode as well as between the cathode and the SE separator *** systematic demonstration of the optimization process may provide understanding and guidance on the design of electrodes for ASSBs with high electrode density,capacity,and ultimately energy density.

BACKGROUND The cellular prion protein(PrPC),traditionally associated with neurodegenerative disorders,plays an important role in cancer progression and metastasis by inhibiting *** To investigate the influence of PrPC expression in cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)on patient outcomes following surgical *** Patients who underwent curative surgical resection for either intrahepatic or hilar CCA were enrolled in this retrospective *** on the immunohistochemical staining results of the surgical specimens,patients were categorized into two groups:The low PrPC group(negative or 1+)and the high PrPC group(2+or 3+).Survival analyses,including overall survival and recurrence-free survival,were conducted using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank *** In total,seventy-six patients diagnosed with CCA(39 with intrahepatic and 37 with hilar CCA)underwent curative hepatectomy from January 2011 to November *** these patients,38(50%)demonstrated high PrPC expression,whereas the remaining 38(50%)showed low expression of *** a median follow-up period of 31.2 months(range:1 to 137 months),the high PrPC group had a significantly shorter median overall survival than the low PrPC group(40.4 months vs 137.9 months,respectively;P=0.041).Moreover,the high PrPC group had a significantly shorter median recurrence-free survival than the low PrPC group(13.3 months vs 23.8 months,respectively;P=0.026).CONCLUSION PrPC expression is significantly associated with early recurrence and decreased survival period in CCA patients following surgical ***,PrPC may be used as a prognostic factor in treatment planning.

Panax ginseng(***.)has been traditionally employed in Korea and China to alleviate fatigue and digestive *** particular,Korean red ginseng(KRG),derived from streamed and dried ***,is known for its anti-aging and anti-inflammatory ***,its effects on benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH),a representative aging-related disease,and the underlying mechanisms remain *** study aims to elucidate the therapeutic effects of KRG on BPH,with a particular focus on mitochondrial dynamics,including fission and fusion *** effects of KRG on cell proliferation,apoptosis,and mitochondrial dynamics and morphology were evaluated in a rat model of testosterone propionate(TP)-induced BPH and TP-treated LNCaP cells,with mdivi-1 as a *** results revealed that KRG treatment reduced the levels of androgen receptors(AR)and prostate-specific antigens in the BPH *** inhibited cell proliferation by downregulating cyclin D and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA)levels,and it promoted apoptosis by increasing the ratio of B-cell lymphoma protein 2(Bcl-2)-associated X protein(Bax)to Bcl-2 ***,KRG treatment enhanced the phosphorylation of dynamin-related protein 1(DRP-1,serine 637)compared with that in the BPH group,which inhibited mitochondrial fission and led to mitochondrial *** modulation of mitochondrial dynamics was associated with decreased cell proliferation and increased *** dysregulating AR signaling and inhibiting mitochondrial fission through enhanced DRP-1(ser637)phosphorylation,KRG effectively reduced cell proliferation and induced *** findings suggest that KRG’s regulation of mitochondrial dynamics offers a promising clinical approach for the treatment of BPH.

A robust digital receiver based on a matched filter （MF） is proposed for the radio frequency identification （RFID） reader system to enhance the reliability of signal processing in the electronic product code （EPC） sensor network （ESN）. The performance of the proposed receiver is investigated by examining the anti-collision algorithm in the EPC global Class1 Generation2 protocol. The validity and usefulness are demonstrated by both computer simulations and experiments. Based on the verification results, comparing with the conventional zero crossing detector （ZCD） based receiver, the proposed receiver is very robust against strong amplitude distortions and considerable frequency deviations happening on the backscattered signal from a passive tag.

The exfoliation of bulk graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))into monolayer has been intensively studied to induce maximum sur-face area for fundamental studies,but ended in failure to realize chemi-cally and physically well-defined monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)mostly due to the difficulty in reducing the layer thickness down to an atomic *** has,therefore,remained as a challenging issue in two-dimensional(2D)chemistry and physics *** this study,an“atomic monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)with perfect two-dimensional limit”was successfully prepared by the chemically well-defined two-step *** atomically resolved monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)was also confirmed by spectroscopic and micro-scopic *** addition,the experimental Cs-HRTEM image was collected,for the first time,which was in excellent agreement with the theoretically simulated;the evidence of monolayer of g-C_(3)N_(4)in the perfect 2D limit becomes now clear from the HRTEM image of orderly hexagonal symmetry with a cavity formed by encirclement of three adjacent heptazine *** to bulk g-C_(3)N_(4),the present g-C_(3)N_(4)monolayer showed significantly higher photocatalytic gen-eration of H2O2 and H2,and electrocatalytic oxygen reduction *** addition,its photocatalytic efficiency for H2O2 production was found to be the best for any known g-C_(3)N_(4)nanomaterials,underscoring the remarkable advantage of monolayer formation in optimizing the catalyst performance of g-C_(3)N_(4).

The latest developments in bio-inspired neuromorphic vision sensors can be summarized in 3 keywords:smaller,faster,and smarter.(1)Smaller:Devices are becoming more compact by integrating previously separated components such as sensors,memory,and processing *** a prime example,the transition from traditional sensory vision computing to in-sensor vision computing has shown clear benefits,such as simpler circuitry,lower power consumption,and less data redundancy.(2)Swifter:Owing to the nature of physics,smaller and more integrated devices can detect,process,and react to input more *** addition,the methods for sensing and processing optical information using various materials(such as oxide semiconductors)are evolving.(3)Smarter:Owing to these two main research directions,we can expect advanced applications such as adaptive vision sensors,collision sensors,and nociceptive *** review mainly focuses on the recent progress,working mechanisms,image pre-processing techniques,and advanced features of two types of neuromorphic vision sensors based on near-sensor and in-sensor vision computing methodologies.
