Features of extrahepatic metastasis after radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma

Robust digital receiver for EPC sensor network

A robust digital receiver based on a matched filter （MF） is proposed for the radio frequency identification （RFID） reader system to enhance the reliability of signal processing in the electronic product code （EPC） sensor network （ESN）. The performance of the proposed receiver is investigated by examining the anti-collision algorithm in the EPC global Class1 Generation2 protocol. The validity and usefulness are demonstrated by both computer simulations and experiments. based on the verification results, comparing with the conventional zero crossing detector （ZCD） based receiver, the proposed receiver is very robust against strong amplitude distortions and considerable frequency deviations happening on the backscattered signal from a passive tag.

The latest developments in bio-inspired neuromorphic vision sensors can be summarized in 3 keywords:smaller,faster,and smarter.(1)Smaller:Devices are becoming more compact by integrating previously separated components such as sensors,memory,and processing *** a prime example,the transition from traditional sensory vision computing to in-sensor vision computing has shown clear benefits,such as simpler circuitry,lower power consumption,and less data redundancy.(2)Swifter:Owing to the nature of physics,smaller and more integrated devices can detect,process,and react to input more *** addition,the methods for sensing and processing optical information using various materials(such as oxide semiconductors)are evolving.(3)Smarter:Owing to these two main research directions,we can expect advanced applications such as adaptive vision sensors,collision sensors,and nociceptive *** review mainly focuses on the recent progress,working mechanisms,image pre-processing techniques,and advanced features of two types of neuromorphic vision sensors based on near-sensor and in-sensor vision computing methodologies.

Dynamic simulation of universal spacer in Dynesys dynamic stabilization system for human vertebra

The aim of this study is to analyze the simulated behavior of universal spacer in Dynesys dynamic stabilization system inserted in human vertebra. Dynesys, so-called "Dynamic neutralization system for the spine", dynamic stabilization system is a new concept in the surgical treatment of lower back pain recently. Universal spacer used as flexible material is to stabilize the spine and the material property of universal spacer is polycarbonate urethane. Universal spacer may apply different kinematic behaviors at implanted level in vertebra. Spinal range of motion(SROM) of inter-vertebra with installed Dynesys dynamic stabilization system was studied using Adams+LifeMOD as simulation software package. The vertebra model was set up to closely resemble the in-vivo conditions. Inter-vertebra rotations were measured by post processor of Adams and compared with the intact values. SROMs of the flexion, extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation of human virtual models were measured, where three spinal fixation systems such as rigid system, Dynesys system, and fused system were installed. As a result, the value of SROM is decreased in flexion-extension and lateral bending when the spinal fixation system is implanted. The movement of Dynesys system is similar to that of intact model by allowing the movement of lumbar. This means that the Dynesys system is proved to be safe and effective in the treatment of unstable spinal condition.

Engineering and Optimization of Silicon–Iron–Manganese Nanoalloy Electrode for Enhanced Lithium-Ion battery

The electrochemical performance of a battery is considered to be primarily dependent on the electrode material. However, engineering and optimization of electrodes also play a crucial role, and the same electrode material can be designed to offer significantly improved batteries. In this work, Si–Fe–Mn nanomaterial alloy(Si/alloy) and graphite composite electrodes were densified at different calendering conditions of 3, 5, and 8 tons, and its influence on electrode porosity, electrolyte wettability, and long-term cycling was investigated. The active material loading was maintained very high(~2 mg cm^(-2)) to implement electrode engineering close to commercial loading scales. The densification was optimized to balance between the electrode thickness and wettability to enable the best electrochemical properties of the Si/alloy *** this case, engineering and optimizing the Si/alloy composite electrodes to 3 ton calendering(electrode densification from 0.39 to 0.48 g cm^(-3)) showed enhanced cycling stability with a high capacity retention of ~100% over 100 cycles.

Hybrid electrodes effective for both electrowetting-and dielectrowetting-driven digital microfluidics

Electrowetting on dielectric(EWOD)and dielectrowetting(DEW)are two major principles to drive droplets in digital *** is effective to manipulate(create,transport,split,and merge)conductive droplets being currently used for many biological,chemical,and optical *** can also manipulate droplets but more efficiently with dielectric(nonconductive)fluids.A digital microfluidic platform efficiently operable by both EWOD and DEW would offer higher versatility in handling a wide range of fluids,regardless of their *** this regard,this article presents a new hybrid electrode design enabling EWOD and DEW to drive various kinds of droplet fluids on a single *** addition,a slippery liquid-infused surface(SLIPS)is integrated with the hybrid *** SLIPS is well known to resist biofouling and repel sticky fluids,which endows the hybrid electrodes with much wider application *** a result,the present SLIPS-integrated hybrid electrodes facilitate actuating various kinds of fluids which would not be driven by conventional EWOD and/or DEW *** paper presents the successful transportation of not only conductive fluids including water,protein solution,glycerol,and honey but also nonconductive fluids including dodecane,silicone oil,and light and heavy crude oil,all driven by the SLIPS-integrated hybrid *** performance comparisons among solid,interdigitating,and hybrid electrodes are made by testing both conductive and nonconductive droplets.

Porous FeS nanofibers with numerous nanovoids obtained by Kirkendall diffusion effect for use as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries

Porous FeS nanofibers with numerous nanovoids for use as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries were prepared by electrospinning and subsequent sulfidation. The post-treatment of the as-spun Fe（acac）3-polyacrylonitrile composite nanofibers in an air atmosphere yielded hollow Fe2O3 nanofibers due to Ostwald ripening. The ultrafine Fe2O3 nanocrystals formed at the center of the fiber diffused toward the outside of the fiber via Ostwald ripening. On sulfidation, the Fe2O3 hollow nanofibers were transformed into porous FeS nanofibers, which contained numerous nanovoids. The formation of porosity in the FeS nanofibers was driven by nanoscale Kirkendall diffusion. The porous FeS nanofibers were very structurally stable and had superior sodium-ion storage properties compared with the hollow Fe2O3 nanofibers. The discharge capacities of the porous FeS nanofibers for the Ist and 150th cycles at a current density of 500 mA.g-1 were 561 and 592 mA.h-g-1, respectively. The FeS nanofibers had final discharge capacities of 456, 437, 413, 394, 380, and 353 mA-h.g-1 at current densities of 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 5.0 A.g-1, respectively.

Management of the enteroatmospheric fistula:A case report

bACKGROUND Enteroatmospheric fistula(EAF)is a catastrophic complication that can occur after open *** cause severe body fluid loss,hypercatabolism,and wound complications,leading to adverse clinical *** SUMMARY A 72-year-old female patient underwent ventral hernia *** days after the surgery,she exhibited severe abdominal pain with septic *** laparotomy revealed extensive intestinal adhesions and severe intraperitoneal *** the patient was hemodynamically unstable,a salvage operation rather than definite surgery was needed,and three surgical open drains were inserted into the peritoneal *** EAFs developed,and it was almost impossible to isolate and reduce the fistula output despite the use of vacuum-assisted closure dressings and endoscopic stent ***,we anastomosed two vascular grafts to the openings of each EAF to restore enteric *** inserted vascular grafts showed acceptable patency,and the patient could receive optimal nutritional support with elemental enteral *** underwent EAF resection 76 d after graft *** Control of the enteric effluent are key elements in achieving favorable clinical conditions which should precede definite surgery for EAFs.

Peri-infarct reorganization of an injured corticospinal tract in a patient with cerebral infarction

Corticospinal tract(CST), a major neural tract in the human brain for motor function, is involved mainly in the movement of the distal extremities(Jang and Lee, 2019). Recovery of an injured CST is essential for good recovery of impaired motor function in stroke patients(Jang and Lee, 2019). Peri-infarct reorganization of an injured CST is an important mechanism underlying recovery of motor function in stroke patients(Jang, 2007). In this study, we reported on a patient with cerebral infarction who showed recovery of an injured CST by periinfarct reorganization using diffusion tensor tractography(DTT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS).
