Selenocysteine (Sec) tRNAs serve as carrier molecules for the biosynthesis of Sec from serine and to donate Sec to protein in response to specific UGA codons. In this study, we describe the current status of Sec tRNAs in higher animals and further we exarnine: (i) the Sec tRNA population in Drosophila; (ii) transcription of the Sec tRNA in vivo (in Xenopus oocytes) and in vitro (in Xenopus oocyte extracts); (iii) the effect of selenium on the Sec tRNA population in various rat tissues following replenishment of extremely selenium deficient rats with this element; and (iv) the biosynthesis of the modified bases on Sec tRNA in Xenopus oocytes

Many researchers have described that mesenchymal stem cells conditioned medium and immune cells conditioned medium have a clear whitening effect when they are used as cosmetic ingredients. In this study, we confirmed the whitening efficacy of various concentrations of immune cells and stem cell conditioned media. The author tried to study a conditioned medium that has a strong whitening effect even with a composition of less than 20% (the most used concentration in cosmetics). Because of the fact that the conditioned medium contains various cytokines and growth factors secreted by stem cells or immune cells, it is known to have effects such as wound healing, antioxidant, and whitening effect. Recently, stem cells have been used not only in the development of cosmetic raw materials but also in skincare procedures, and there are reports being released of cosmetics using immune cells conditioned medium. The concentration-dependent whitening effect equivalently increased as the concentration of the mono-cultured conditioned medium was obtained through the stem cells or immune cells culture. In the case of co-culture, whitening results are like the effect of positive control such as arbutin in the medium carrying only 10% of the co-cultured conditioned medium. It is possible that enhanced whitening efficiency in co-cultured conditioned medium leads to a major innovation in the global cosmetic market.

＜正＞Plants monitor environmental fluctuations constantly to optimize their growth and metabolism;one example is adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses. Here, we demonstrate that auxin homeostasis is an essential constituent of the complex network of auxin actions that mediates stress adaptation responses. The endogenous auxin pool is regulated through negative feedback by a group of auxin-inducible GH3 genes that encode auxin-conjugating enzymes. The Arabidopsis mutant wesl-D exhibits auxin-deficient traits and was found to overexpress a GH3 gene, WES1. Interestingly, WES1 is activated by pathogenic infections and abiotic stresses as well as by salicylic acid and abscisic acid. Accordingly, wes1-D is resistant to both biotic and abiotic stresses, and stress-regulated genes, including PR-1 and CBFs, are up-regulated in this mutant. We propose that GH3-mediated growth suppression directs reallocation of metabolic resources to resistance responses and provides a role for auxin in the fitness costs of induced resistance in plants.

Freezing temperatures cause different levels of freezing injury and change biochemical components of trees. In this study, the range of survival temperature and variation in electrolyte leakage, and in concentrations of sugar, starch, and proline were determined in peach twigs (Jinmi, Changhowonhwangdo, and Kawanakajima Hakuto) exposed to artificially controlled freezing temperature. Freezing temperatures at which the plants were damaged by stress were found to be -21°C in Jan. and Feb., -18°C in Mar., and -6°C in Apr. Electrolyte leakage increased as temperature decreased from -15°C to -24°C at each assessment time. Sugar gradually decreased after the endodormancy period in the late part of winter, and sugar concentration was overall lower in freezing temperature treatments, while starch increased as a result of changing seasons from Jan. to Apr. The trend of proline concentration was related to the survival rate of peach trees during winter. This study suggests possible safe temperatures for survival and cultivation of peach trees as well as identifying freezing temperature effects on internal components of freeze-injured peach twigs.

目的分析和探讨过敏性鼻炎与渗出性中耳炎疾病发生关系。方法回顾性分析韩国庆熙大学医院耳鼻咽喉科收治的60例渗出性中耳炎患儿临床治疗资料,选取同期在我院就诊的62例诊断为非渗出性中耳炎患儿作为对照,检测两组患儿中过敏性鼻炎发生情况。结果渗出性中耳炎组过敏性鼻炎检出率为28.3%(17/60),非渗出性中耳炎组过敏性鼻炎检出率为37.1%(23/62)。过敏原包括螨虫、蟑螂、花粉等。渗出性中耳炎组患儿血液中嗜酸性粒细胞数为(232.3±172.6)个/mm^3,非渗出性中耳炎组患儿为(287.3±220.9)个/mm^3,两组间无显著性差异(P>0.05)。渗出性中耳炎组患儿血清Ig E含量为(141.4±193.8)IU/m L,非渗出性中耳炎组患儿为(204.7±219.1)IU/m L,两组间无显著性差异(P>0.05)。渗出性中耳炎组过敏性鼻炎患儿中耳腔渗出液中Ig E含量为(4.3±4.07)IU/L,非渗出性中耳炎组过敏性鼻炎患儿为(5.5±8.2)IU/L,两组间无显著性差异(P>0.05)。结论本研究结果表明,两组过敏性鼻炎发病率无显著性差异,血清嗜酸粒细胞数、血清Ig E值、中耳腔渗出液中Ig E值间无显著性差异,故过敏性鼻炎与渗出性中耳炎发生无直接关系。

The dissolution behavior of nickel in the MgO-SiO 2-FeO slag system was investigated by using the thermodynamic equilibrium *** distribution ratio between molten MgO-SiO 2-FeO slag and molten Fe-Ni alloy at 1773 K and 1873 K was measured to understand the dissolution mechanism of nickel into the *** dependence of oxygen partial pressure and basicity on the distribution of nickel was *** distribution behavior between slag and Fe-Ni alloy increased with higher oxygen partial pressure showing a dependence of 1/*** basic slag systems near the olivine saturated composition,the nickel distribution ratio increased with higher basicity showing a slope of 1 and for acidic slag systems near the cristobalite saturated composition,the nickel distribution ratio decreased with higher basicity showing a slope *** dissolution behavior of nickel in the MgO-SiO 2-FeO slag system showed two independent mechanisms similar to that found in the CaO-SiO 2-CaF 2 *** distribution ratio of sulfur between the（CaO）-MgO-FeO-SiO 2 slag and Fe-Ni alloy at high temperature was also investigated to understand the refining ability of Ferronickel smelting slag by chemical equilibrating *** experimental results indicated that sulfide capacity in terms of the slag composition of MgO-FeO-SiO 2 slag and temperature was increased with increasing FeO and CaO contents as well as *** FeO is considered to work as relatively basic component in this slag system that has low *** the effect of components of slag on sulfide capacity,CaO and FeO is considered to be more effective basic oxide than MgO in MgO-FeO-SiO 2 slag system while the effect of FeO on sulfide capacity was gradually retarded with increasing *** effect of CaO on MgO solubility of slag and the relationship between sulfide and Ni oxide capacities was also discussed.

We recently reported that L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AP) stimulates the growth of human dermal papilla (DP) cells, induces secretion of IGF-1 from the DP cells to promote hair shafts elongation in cultured human hair follicles, and triggers early progression from the telogen to anagen phase in mice. Since the magnesium salt of AP (APMg) is a highly hydrophilic ionic molecule, it is not easy to deliver this reagent to the skin or hair follicles by topical application alone. In order to enhance skin penetration of APMg without changing any molecular properties, a non-invasive iontophoretic delivery method was introduced. Iontophoresis of the negatively charged APMg under the electrode bearing same charge (cathode) significantly enhanced the in vitro penetration of APMg into a Franz cell equipped with mouse dorsal skin. In contrast, iontophoretic movement with the anode inhibited APMg penetration achieved with passive diffusion alone. The effect of iontophoresis on enhancing the penetration of APMg was also found to be much higher in the skin of hairy mice (3 - 8 times) compared to hairless mice (1.5 - 2.5 times). These findings indicated that iontophoretic movement induced the transfollicular pathway more strongly and effectively than the transdermal pathway. This phenomena was also demonstrated by the in vivo iontophoretic delivery of sodium fluorescein using hairy and hairless mice. The degree of iontophoretic enhancement during APMg penetration was also dependent on various conditions such as current density and application duration.
