Stutzerimonas have been extensively studied due to their remarkable metabolic and physiological ***,research on its phages is currently *** this study,we isolated a novel double-stranded DNA(dsDNA)phage,vB_SstM-PG1,from the marine environment that infects Stutzerimonas stutzeri *** dsDNA genome is 37204 bp long with a G/C content of 64.14%and encodes 54 open reading *** phage possesses a tail packaging structure that is different from known Stutzerimonas stutzeri phages and exhibits structural protein characteristics similar to those of temperate *** addition,two genes of toxin-antitoxin system,including YdaS_antitoxin and HEPN_SAV_6107,were found in the vB_SstM-PG1 genome and play important roles in regulating host growth and *** phylogenetic tree and comparative genomic analysis,it has been determined that vB_SstM-PG1 is not closely related to any phages previously identified in the GenBank ***,it has a connection with enigmatic,uncultured ***,the vB_SstM-PG1 virus exhibits an average nucleotide identity of over 70%with six uncultivated viruses identified in the IMG/VR v4 *** significant finding has resulted in the identification of a novel viral genus known as Metabovirus.

Transcriptomes of Litopenaeus vannamei reveal modulation of antioxidant system induced by dietary archaeal carotenoids

Oxidative stress induced by factors such as ammonia nitrogen has become a major issue in shrimp *** effects of carotenoids on the growth and antioxidant capability of Litopenaeus vannamei juveniles were investigated in this study using dietary archaeal carotenoids *** four weeks,shrimp were given diets containing 0 mg/kg(Ctrl)and 55.98 mg/kg(Car)archaeal *** archaeal carotenoids significantly enhanced the astaxanthin content in shrimp muscles and carapaces,as well as the superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity(P<0.05).The malonaldehyde(MDA)content in Car group significantly decreased(P<0.05).The transcriptome analysis was conducted to determine the molecular processes in response to archaeal carotenoids supplementation.A total of 1536 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were detected,including 538 upregulated DEGs and 998 downregulated *** functional enrichment analysis between Ctrl and Car indicated that 26 GO terms including extracellular region,metabolic process,and proteolysis were *** KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism,cysteine and methionine metabolism,glycine serine and threonine metabolism,and amino acid biosynthesis were *** carotenoids influenced the expression of several important genes involved in reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation,Nrf2 signaling,and antioxidant *** DEGs were chosen to confirm the RNA-Seq data using *** genes and pathways discovered in this work assist to elucidate the molecular processes through which archaeal carotenoid enhances *** antioxidative system.

Cardiovascular health awareness,risk perception,behavioural intention and INTERHEART risk stratification among middle-aged adults in Malaysia

Objective:To investigate the interrelationship between cardiovascular health awareness,risk perception,behavioural intention,and INTERHEART risk stratification in a middle-aged adult population in ***:A cross-sectional survey with convenience sampling was conducted during November 2022 and January *** completed validated questionnaires assessing cardiovascular health awareness,risk perception of cardiovascular diseases,behavioural intention towards adopting healthy habits,and INTERHEART risk stratification score(IHRS)based on established risk factors.A total of 602 respondents were included in the final *** were analysed with independent t-test/one-way ANOVA or Mann-Whitney/Kruskal-Wallis to test the differences,Pearson correlation or linear regression test to analyze the association of independent and dependent ***:There was a significant positive correlation between medical knowledge related to cardiovascular disease(CVD)and knowledge related to CVD risk prevention,risk perception,behavioural intention and IHRS(P<0.05,Pearson correlation).Notably,individuals with higher IHRS tended to have lower knowledge related to CVD and CVD risk prevention,risk perception,and behavioural ***,laborers,active/former smokers,individuals with lower household income and educational levels,those involved in occupations not related to the healthcare sector,and those who did not receive the CVD health brochure or are unaware of health self-assessment tools are likely to have lower levels of knowledge,risk perception,and poorer behavioural intention regarding cardiovascular health(P<0.05,one-way ANOVA).While educational level,smoking status,awareness about CVD poster,self-assessment tools were repeatedly significantly associated with knowledge related to CVD and CVD risk prevention,risk perception,behavioral intention and/or IHRS(P<0.05,linear regression).Conclusions:These findings underscore the importance of promoting car

Shifts in phenology of autumn migration and wing length among reedbed passerines along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway

Climate change impacts bird migration phenology,causing changes in departure and arrival dates,leading to potential mismatches between migration and other key seasonal *** the impacts of climate change on arrival at breeding grounds have been relatively well documented,little is known about the impacts of climate change on post-breeding migration,especially at stopover *** we use long-term(11 years)banding data(11,118 captures)from 7 species at Mai Po Marshes Nature Reserve in Hong Kong,a key stopover site for migratory birds along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway,to describe long-term changes in migration phenology and to compare observed changes to annual weather *** also examine changes in wing length over a longer time period(1985–2020)as wing length often correlates positively with migration *** found that observed changes in migratory phenology vary by species;three species had later estimated arrival(by 1.8 days per year),peak(by 2.6 days per year)or departure(by 2.5 days per year),one showed an earlier peak date(by 1.8days per year)and two showed longer duration of passage(2.7 days longer and 3.2 days longer per year).Three species exhibited no long-term change in migration *** two of the four species with shifting phenology,temperature was an important predictor of changing peak date,departure dates and duration of *** length was shorter in three species and longer in two species,but these changes did not correlate with observed phenological *** complex changes observed here are indicative of the challenges concerning the detection of climate change in migratory stopover *** monitoring and a better understanding of the dynamics of all sites in the migratory pathway will aid conservation of these species under global change.

Techniques for restoring bowel continuity and function after rectal cancer surgery

A very low local recurrence rate of 3%-6% (associated with improved 5 year survival) is possible when proper oncological surgery is performed of mid and distal rectal adenocarcinoma. Restoration of bowel continuity is possible in most cases, without compromise of cancer clearance. Re-anastomosis can be performed with stapled, transabdominal hand-sewn or coloanal pull- through techniques. However after a direct (straight) anastomosis of the colon to the distal rectum/anus, up to 33% of patients have 3 or more bowel movements/ d; some can be troubled with up to 14 stools a day. Construction of a 6-cm colonic J-pouch is likely to cause some reversed peristalsis which improves postoperative bowel frequency without causing neo-rectum evacuation problems. Colonic J-pouch-anal anastomosis patients have a median of 3 bowel movements a day compared with a median of 6 a day for straight anastomoses, at 1 year after surgery. In the longer term, bowel adaptation may enable the function after a straight anastomosis to approximate that of a colonic J-pouch-anal anastomosis. This probably depends in the former, upon whether the more rigid sigmoid colon or more distensible descending colon is used. An additional advantage of the colonic J-pouch-anal anastomosis is the lower risk of anastomotic complications. A more vascularized side-to- end (colonic J-pouch-anal) anastomosis is likely to heal better than an end-to-end (straight) anastomosis. Where the pelvis is too narrow for a bulky colonic J-pouch anal anastomosis, a coloplasty-anal-anastomosis is an option. The latter results in postoperative bowel function comparable with the colonic J-pouch. However, the risk of anastomotic complications is higher possibly related to its end-to-end anastomotic configuration. Laparoscopic techniques for accomplishing all the above are being proven to be effective. Restorative surgery for rectal cancer can be safely and effectively performed withmethods to improve bowel function very acceptably;

Copper catalyzed/mediated direct B–H alkenylation/alkynylation in carboranes

Base metal catalyzed regioselective cage B–H functionalization has been achieved. Under the assistance of a bidentate directing group, Cu-catalyzed [4+2] annulation of carboranyl amides with internal alkynes affords unprecedented C,B-substituted carborane-fused-pyridone derivatives, whereas the use of terminal alkynes leads to B–H/C(sp)–H dehydrocoupling products. The isolation and structural identification of a notably stable Cu(Ⅰ) intermediate shed light on the reaction mechanism, which is proposed to involve a Cu(Ⅲ) intermediate.

Absent middle hepatic vein in a right liver graft donor

BACKGROUND: The middle hepatic vein (MHV) is normally in form of a large trunk lying within the midplane of the liver. An anomaly in form of two separate trunks, each draining segment V/VIII and segment IV, has been described by Couinaud but not been well documented in the literature. METHOD: We report a right liver donor in whom the MHV was absent and not encountered during liver transection along the midplane of the liver. RESULTS: On computed tomography (CT) scan and intraoperative ultrasonography, there was a large segment VIII hepatic vein mistaken as the MHV on preoperative assessment and a large segment IV hepatic vein close to the ligamenturn venosum. CT volumetry based on either segment VIII or IV hepatic vein led to major error in liver volume calculation. Transection of the liver guided by segment VIII or IV hepatic vein would lead to sacrifice of liver parenchyma unnecessarily or presence of necrotic liver in the graft. CONCLUSION: Absent MHV is a rare anomaly. It is revealed by careful study of the CT scan.

Impact of fecal incontinence on quality of life

AIM:To explore the impact of fecal incontinence (FI) on quality of life (QOL) of patients attending urogynecology and colorectal clinics (CCs).METHODS:Cross-sectional study of 154 patients (27 male) with FI,who attended the clinics at a regional hospital in North Queensland,Australia in 2003 and 2004,and completed the Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (FIQL:1=very affected;4=not affected).RESULTS:More than 22% of patients had their QOL affected severely by *** reported that they had not previously been asked about FI by a medical practitioner nor did they voluntarily disclose its *** median FIQL scores for all participants were:lifestyle=3.24;coping=2.23;depression=2.42;and embarrassment=*** frequency of soiling had a negative effect on all four FIQL scales (P < 0.001) as did the quantity of soiling (P < 0.01).Female CC patients had poorer FIQL scores than urogynecology clinic patients for lifestyle (P=0.015),coping (P=0.004) and embarrassment (P=0.009),but not depression (P=0.062),despite having experienced FI for a shorter ***:Failure to seek treatment for FI degrades the quality of patients' lives over *** assessment tools should incorporate the quantity of fecal loss.

Growth and survival of blue swimming crab (<i>Portunus pelagicus</i>) reared on frozen and artificial foods

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of two frozen organism (with and without instant Nannochloropsis oculata and with and without instant encapsulated Spirulina) and artificial diet (with and without artificial encapsulated shrimp larvae feed) with live food as continues feed in the larval rearing of blue swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus. The larvae were conducted with six treatments and each treatment with three replications on newly one day hatched larvae in each replication. Results showed that these larvae fed with a combination diet of instant frozen N. oculata, Artemia nauplii and rotifer give a higher survival rate till 1st day juvenile crab compared to the treatment with instant encapsulated Spirulina and artificial diet (with artificial encapsulated shrimp larvae feed). One of experiments treated with encapsulated Spirulina recorded only 16 days for the zoea to reach the C1, one day earlier as compared to previous trials treated with and without instant frozen N. oculata. One of the experiments treated with artificial encapsulated shrimp larvae feed recorded 18 days for the zoea to reach the C1, 1 to 2 days longer as compared to all the previous trials earlier. Food type influenced survival, development, and metamorphosis to megalopa and 1st day juvenile crab of P. pelagicus zoea larvae. Our findings illustrate that the best survival, the most rapid development and the highest number of 1st day juvenile crabs were obtained from larvae fed with a combination diet of frozen N. oculata, Artemia nauplii and rotifer from hatching till the 1st day juvenile crab.
