Evaluation of phytochemical properties and in-vitro antibacterial activity of the aqueous extracts of leaf,seed and root of Abrus precatorius Linn. against Salmonella and Shigella

Objective:To investigate the phytochemical components of Abrus precatorius(***) and the in-vitro susceptibility of Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae to the aqueous extracts of *** leaf,seed and ***:The leaf,seed and root of *** were collected and homogenized separately after drying at 40℃ for seven days in hot-air *** aqueous extracts of each of the parts were prepared and subjected to phytochemical *** of 400,300,200,100 mg/mL,of each of the extracts were used for broth dilution in minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) determination against clinical isolates of Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae,while 50,40,30,20,and 10 mg/mL dilutions were used for the agar diffusion test and 100 mg/mL and 10 mg/mL of gentamycin were used as controls for broth dilution in MIC determination and agar diffusion test,***:Qualitative study reveals that tannin,saponins,alkaloids,flavonoids,terpenoids,steroids and phenols were present in all of the plant *** leaf has the highest quantities of tannin and *** root generally showed the lowest quantity of all the *** pathogens were susceptible to aqueous extracts of the leaf,stem and root of *** at 50 mg/*** concentrations of 40,30 and 20 mg/mL,all the aqueous extracts of *** showed variation in MIC,but produced no minimum bactericide effect upon *** were variations in diameter of zone of inhibition against the organisms at lower ***:These findings suggest that *** is a valuable source of phytochemicals with promising antibacterial *** this bioactivity,*** could be probed further for toxicity,and to obtain some novel antibacterial molecules.

Image j Analysis of Six Different Annealed Temperatures of 0.17% C of HSLA Steels

Annealing is a heat treatment procedure in which the mechanical properties of a material are being altered, and such alterations cause changes in its properties such as strength and hardness. It is usually carried out to improve ductility and toughness, to reduce hardness and to remove carbides. This study deals with the use of image analysis processing method for the measurement of structure of six annealed samples of 0.17% High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) Steels (840°C - 990°C) with 30°C interval and 30 minutes soaking time. From the optical microscope images using Image j program, some parameters like calculation of area, pixel value statistics, distances and angles measurements, edge detection, such as the circularity, ferret angle, solidity and perimeter, average area and the percentage area were examined. The annealed sample of 960°C gave the highest grain count of 543 with a perimeter of 41.518;standard deviation 7.057 and a mean of 28.722 which shows that annealing greatly improved the fatigue life of the steel. From the mechanical analysis result, the annealed sample at 840°C has a highest hardness value of 129.4 BHN and gave the lowest impact value of 58.75 j. This study shows a significant decrease in the hardness value as the annealing temperature increased which signifies that annealing temperature enhanced the fatigue property and tensile strength (wear strength) of the steel in study.

Anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities of artesunate in experimental animals

Objective:To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antipyretic potentials of artesunate in albino mice and Wistar rats ***:For the anti-inflammatory activity,artesunate(5 mg/kg)was administered orally against egg albumin-and xylene-induced inflammation in mice using ibuprofen(50 mg/kg)as standard *** assess antipyretic activity,artesunate(5 mg/kg)was administered orally against d-amphetamine-and 2,4-dinitrophenol-induced pyrexia in rats using ibuprofen(15 mg/kg)as standard ***:The result showed that artesunate significantly(P<0.001-0.010)reduced inflammation induced by egg albumin and xylene in a time-dependent *** also significantly(P<0.001-0.050)and time-dependently reduced pyrexia induced by d-amphetamine and 2,*** reductions were similar to those produced by the standard drug ibuprofen,and thereby demonstrating that artesunate possesses antiinflammatory and antipyretic ***:These results further support the rationale for the use of artesunate in the treatment of malaria,a disease characterized by fever and inflammation and open up possibilities of its usefulness in other inflammatory and feverish diseases.

Half-Step Continuous Block Method for the Solutions of Modeled Problems of Ordinary Differential Equations

In this paper, we developed a new continuous block method using the approach of collocation of the differential system and interpolation of the power series approximate solution. A constant step length within a half step interval of integration was adopted. We evaluated at grid and off grid points to get a continuous linear multistep method. The continuous linear multistep method is solved for the independent solution to yield a continuous block method which is evaluated at selected points to yield a discrete block method. The basic properties of the block method were investigated and found to be consistent and zero stable hence convergent. The new method was tested on real life problems namely: SIR model, Growth model and Mixture Model. The results were found to compete favorably with the existing methods in terms of accuracy and error bound.

3D modeling of abnormal pore pressure in shallow offshore Niger delta: An application of seismic inversion

Pore pressure is the pressure associated with fluids in the pore spaces of sedimentary rocks. Thispressure varies from hydrostatic to severe overpressure. It is classified as abnormal pressure when itdeviates from hydrostatic pressure. Incorrect prediction or the absence of pore pressure evaluation canlead to severe damage of the drilling platform, loss of personnel, waste of resources and environmentalpollution. This study was carried out in an offshore field in Niger Delta with an objective of predicting theabnormal pressure regime from the seismic volume using seismic inversion technique. First, weemployed the Eaton’s and Bower’s model of predicting pore pressure from Well log. The predicted porepressure from the well was used to calibrate the P-impedance that was used in the inversion process. Apressure-based model for the seismic inversion process was developed. This was constrained by therelationship between the P-impedance and pore pressure in the study area. The predicted pore pressurefrom the Well logs aligned with the measured pore pressure in the formation. At about 3600 m to end ofthe Well, depicts a pressure regime that is a deviation from the hydrostatic pressure trend. The abnormalpressure regime is marked by the region where a change is observed in the normal compaction trendline. The cross plot of acoustic impedance against pore pressure reveals a linear relationship;with adirect relationship indicating a normal pressure interval and the indirect relationship at the abnormalpressure regime. The inverted 3D pressure result from the seismic volume validates the normalcompaction trend line and also the pressure values estimated from the Well logs. The abnormal pressureregime in the study area is predicted to be found towards the end of Agbada Formation and through theAkata Formation due to the un-compacted shales.

Dioxin-like molecules have been associated with endocrine disruption and liver *** better understand aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AHR)biology,metabolic phenotyping and liver proteomics were performed in mice following ligand-activation or whole-body genetic ablation of this *** wild type(WT)and Ahr^(-/-) mice(Taconic)were fed a control diet and exposed to 3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl(PCB126)(61 nmol/kg by gavage)or vehicle for two ***126 increased expression of canonical AHR targets(Cyp1 a1 and Cyp1 a2)in WT but not Ahr^(-/-).Knockouts had increased adiposity with decreased glucose tolerance;smaller livers with increased steatosis and perilipin-2;and paradoxically decreased blood ***126 was associated with increased hepatic triglycerides in Ahr^(-/-).The liver proteome was impacted more so by Ahr^(-/-) genotype than ligandactivation,but top gene ontology(GO)processes were *** PCB126-associated liver proteome was *** principally regulated liver metabolism(e.g.,lipids,xenobiotics,organic acids)and bioenergetics,but it also impacted liver endocrine response(e.g.,the insulin receptor)and function,including the production of steroids,hepatokines,and pheromone binding *** effects could have been indirectly mediated by interacting transcription factors or *** biologic roles of the AHR and its ligands warrant more research in liver metabolic health and disease.

A Micro Study to Determine Porosity, Hydraulic Conductivity, Permeability and the Discharge Rate of Groundwater in Ondo State Riverbeds, Southwestern Nigeria

Laboratory study of three riverbed soil samples denoted as A, B and C have been carried out by determining the soils Porosity, Hydraulic conductivity, Permeability and also investigating if there are points of convergence between the discharge rate and angle of tilt for the above mentioned samples. The experimental results for Porosity were approximately within 34% - 37%, Hydraulic conductivity was within 3.02 × 10-5 - 9.70 × 10-5 (m/s) and Permeability was within 2.74 × 10-12 - 8.80 × 10-12 (m2). Pressure generally increases as distance of flow increases for θ = 5° - 25° but there was decrease in pressure as distance of flow increases for all three samples when θ = 0°. The points of convergence for the discharge rate ranged from 0.001 × 10-10 - 4.54 × 10-10 (m3/s), while the angle of tilt convergence points ranged from 0.1° to 3.6°. There was increase in discharge rate as angle of tilt increases for all three samples.

在含TCSC型故障限流器(thyristor-controlled series capacitor-based fault current limiter,TCSC-FCL)线路距离保护的整定中,通常将TCSC-FCL作为电抗器处理,忽略其动态阻抗特性,可能导致保护拒动/误动或速动性不足。针对上述问题,建立TCSC-FCL动态阻抗分析模型,对TCSC-FCL独有的首周波旁路模式下的阻抗时变特性进行分析,研究其从串补模式切换到限流模式的动态阻抗变化过程,提出TCSC-FCL动态阻抗特性函数表示方法,并提出基于动态偏移阻抗圆的距离保护整定策略,以消除TCSC-FCL动态阻抗特性对距离保护动作性能的影响。建立含TCSC-FCL的典型输电网模型,验证上述动态特性函数表示方法以及距离保护整定策略的正确性。

This study was designed to determine the neuroprotective potentials of aqueous and methanol extracts from Heinsia crinita leaves in *** total phenol and flavonoid contents of the extracts were determined using colorimetric method while phenolic characterization of the leaf was analyzed via high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector(HPLC-DAD).The effects of the extracts on Fe^2+-induced lipid peroxidation in rats’brain homogenate,monoamine oxidase(MAO),Na^+/K^+-ATPase,acetylcholinesterase(AChE)and butyrylcholinesterase(BChE)activities were also *** aqueous extract had higher total phenol and flavonoid contents than the methanol ***-DAD revealed that quercetin ellagic,chlorogenic and caffeic acids were the most abundant phenolic compounds in the *** aqueous extract had higher inhibitory effects on MAO,AChE and BChE activities while there was no significant difference between their Fe^2+-induced lipid peroxidation inhibitory ***,both extracts stimulated Na^+/K^+-ATPase activity;however,methanol extract had higher stimulatory *** neuroprotective properties of *** leaves could be associated with its inhibitory effects on Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation and modulation of MAO,Na^+/K^+-ATPase,AChE,and BChE ***,*** leaves could be used as a functional food and dietary intervention for the management of some neurodegenerative ***,the aqueous extracts exhibited better neuroprotective properties.

针对电力系统可能存在的不可预知型短路电流超标风险,提出一种主动响应型站域集成保护策略。采用最小二乘短路电流超快速预测,闭锁保护出口以防止断路器强行分闸造成爆炸;并基于短路前后外部系统状态突变,实现无故障进线的背侧系统等值,从而预估短路电流限制措施实施效果,优选站域保护紧急跳闸方案。仿真结果验证所提策略的有效性,为电网不可预知型短路电流超标问题提供一种全新的保护解决思路。
