This paper presents an intelligent controller employing Adaptive neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (AnFIS) for extracting maximum power from the wind energy conversion system even during the change in the wind speed conditions with improved quality of power. The proposed induction generator with multilevel inverter along with intelligent controller based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique aims at integrating winds system with improved maximum power injection and minimum harmonic issues. The proposed method will improve the power quality which is delivered to the grid in terms of harmonic, and inject the maximum power to the grid. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, AnFIS controller, Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) and without MPPT controller have been presented and tested using MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Objective:To investigate the antimalarial and larvicidal activities of seaweeds against Plasmodium falciparum strain andAnopheles stephensi mosquito larva. Methods: The three different seaweeds,Jania rubens,Turbinaria ornata (T. ornata) and Ulva fasciata were collected from Southeast India. The seaweeds were extracted using hexane and ethyl acetate solvents and evaluated for their mosquito-larvicidal and antiplasmodial property. The bioactive compounds of the seaweed extract were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results:The hexane extract ofT. ornata (HTO) has shown significant inhibitory effects at the IC50 value 22.98 μg/mL, when compared to the positive control, chloroquine (12.32 μg/mL). The larvicidal activity of HTO on the fourth instar larvae of Anopheles stephensi was found to be effective with the LC50 and LC90 values (μg/mL) of 1.38 and 3.34. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis ofHTO revealed the presence of alkenes, aromatics, amides and amines groups, whereas in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, 11 different bioactive components were recorded. The bioactive component, hentriacontane in the HTO might be responsible for the recorded antiplasmodial and larvicidal activities. Conclusions:The finding of the present study reveals that the constituents of T. ornata have new sources of antimalarial and larvicidal agents in future.

Application of nIR Reflectance Spectroscopy on Rapid Determination of Moisture Content of Wood Pellets

nIR spectroscopy was used to measure the moisture concentration of wood pellets. Pellets were conditioned to various moisture levels between 0.63% and 14.16% (wet basis) and the moisture concentration was verified using a standard oven method. Samples from various moisture levels were separated into two groups, as calibration and validation sets. nIR absorption spectral data from 400 nm to 2500 nm with 0.5 nm intervals were collected using pellets within the calibration and validation sample sets. Spectral wavelength ranges were taken as independent variables and the MC of the pellets as the dependent variable for the analysis. Measurements were obtained on 30 replicates within each moisture level. Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis was performed on both raw and preprocessed spectral data of calibration set to determine the best calibration model based on Standard Error of Calibration (SEC) and coefficient of multiple determinations (R2). The PLS model that yielded the best fit was used to predict the moisture concentration of validation group pellets. Relative Percent Deviation (RPD) and Standard Error of Prediction (SEP) were calculated to validate goodness of fit of the prediction model. Baseline and Multiple Scatter Corrected (MSC) reflectance spectra with 1st derivative model gave the highest RPD value of 4.46 and R2 of 0.95. Also it’s SEP (0.670) and RMSEP (0.782) were less than the other models those had RPD value more than 3.0 with less number of factors. Therefore, this model was selected as the best model for moisture content prediction of wood pellets.

Aim: Prostane, a polyherbal formulation, was evaluated for its efficacy on 5α-reductase inhibition, α-adrenergic anta-gonistic activity and testosterone-induced prostatic hyperplasia. Methods: 5α-reductase inhibition was evaluated usingrat prostate homogenate as an enzyme source. Adrenergic antagonistic activity was evaluated using isolated rat vas def-erens. Experimental prostatic hyperplasia was induced in rats by giving testosterone 3 rog/kg sc for 21 days. Re-sults: Prostane dose-dependently inhibited 5α-reductase activity and exhibited α-adrenergic antagonistic activity. Treat-ment with Prostane at 250, 500 and 750 mg/kg body wt, po for 21 days significantly reduced the prostatic weight, theepithelial height and the stromal proliferation in experimental prostatic hypertrophy. Conclusion: Prostane is effectivein the treatment of experimental prostatic hypertrophy in rats and may be passed on to clinical trials on benign prostatichypertrophy after necessary toxicological evaluations. Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) poses a risk of opportunistic infections with a variety of organisms with nocardia being the most common pathogen followed by mycobacteria and fungi. Case presentation: A 7-year-old female child, presented with headache and multiple episodes of vomiting. There was no fever or altered sensorium. On examination, there were no focal deficits or cranial nerve palsies. An MRI brain showed a small T2 hyperintense lesion in the left superior parietal lobe suggestive of an abscess. She was diagnosed as PAP based on CT chest and bronchioloalveolar lavage 7 months earlier and treated with corticosteroids. A left parieto-occipital craniotomy was done with drainage of abscess and abscess wall excision. Histopathology revealed a suppurative lesion with slender septate acute angle branching hyphae which were positive on fungal stains. Culture done on the pus was positive for Aspergil us fumigatus. The patient was treated with voriconazole and stable at 1 year follow-up. Conclusion: Opportunistic infections are common in patients diagnosed with PAP. High index of clinical suspicion and early diagnosis are important for favorable outcome.

The authors report clinical correlations of single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) findings in reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy (RPL). These are observations that have not received wide attention in literature. A 31-year-old hypertensive gentleman, on discontinuing antihypertensive medications, presented with vomiting, headache, focal motor to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures, altered sensorium, right gaze palsy and right hemiparesis. Accelerated hypertension was noted and he improved well with antihypertensive and anticonvulsant therapy. While cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed extensive bilateral lesions, SPECT imaging revealed perfusion defects involving bilateral basal ganglia, left parieto-occipital, right cerebellar and right occipital regions, which corresponded with clinical deficits on examination. While MRI is the standard of care for the evaluation of RPL, this case suggests that SPECT abnormalities may be better localized to the pathogenic lesions. Furthermore, this may begin to explain the pathophysiology of injury in RPL.

Background: To determine the effect of high dose tranexamic acid in decreasing immediate postoperative bleeding in children less than ten kilo body weight after complex cardiac surgery and also to evaluate the safety of high dose in small children. Methods: Between January-December 2015, 25 children weighing less than ten kilogram body weight underwent complex cardiac surgery for cyanotic congenital heart disease. All children were given dose of 100 mg/kg tranexamic acid at the time of anaesthetic induction and also 100 mg/kg into the CPB prime. The Median age and weight was 80 days (3 - 365) and 4.69 kg (2.4 - 7.8) respectively. The Median preoperative Hb was 10 g/dl (9.6 - 19.5 g/dl). Cardiac surgery included total intracardiac repair for TOF in 10 pts (40%), TAPVC repair in 6 (24%), arterial switch operation in 6 pts (24%), BD glenn in 1, repair of DORV with VSD in 1 and VSD closure with scimitar vein reimplantation in 1 pt. Median CPB time was 127 minutes (97 - 343) and cross clamp time was 99 (67 - 200) minutes. Moderate to deep hypothermia was maintained in all with median temperature of 24°C (18 - 32). Three children (12%) had elective open chest in view of anticipated bleeding. Results: The Median postoperative drainage was 127 ml, (range 10 - 1250 ml). The median postoperative use of whole blood was 95 ml (range 10 - 275), packed cell was 187 ml (range 50 - 400 ml), frozen plasma was 88 ml (range 30 - 170), platelet concentrate was 57 ml, (range 10 - 100 ml) and cryoprecipitate was median 47.5 ml, (range 30 - 80 ml). no neurological dysfunction and renal dysfunction has been observed in any of the pts. Out of 4 mortalities (16%), only one was attributed to bleeding (4%) due to usage of ECMO. no late neurological or renal dysfunction has been observed in remaining 21 pts on follow up. Conclusion: High dose Tranexamic acid can be safely used in small children during complex cardiac surgery with significant reduction in postoperative bleeding and blood product
