Tidal current power is one of the promising and reliable renewable energies with the advantage of continuous and predictable resource. It can make stable electricity regardless of weather conditions or seasons all year around. The required technologies for tidal current power in the ocean have been developed for years and now recognized that it could be commercialized after intensive field tests and successful demonstrations. There are several tidal farm development projects in the world, such as the MeyGen project in UK with its commercialization at hand. However, various research subjects in the tidal current energy field are seeking improvements and industrialization of tidal current power in terms of economy and technical reliability. This paper introduces the resource assessment procedure of tidal energy that has been applied in Korea coastal regions. The key research subjects for tidal current power together with the interaction effect of multi-arrangement is described. Also, this paper is to introduce the research output of each subject such as turbine design, experimental validation, turbine interaction and wake, multi-array module, FSI (fluid-structure interaction), and duct application.

The prime standard for audio/video transport in IP networks is the Real-time Transport Protocol （RTP） and it is targeted at useful services for the transport of real-time multimedia data. RTP was originally designed for use in multicast conferences, using the lightweight sessions model. RTP （in particular, the data part） is so tightly coupled to the application that a number of people have developed libraries that implement RTP. However, little is known about the RTP overheads between user area and kernel area within operating systenl. Actually, unnecessary copying between user area and kernel area lowers the system efficiency. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of Enhanced Multimedia Input/Output Scheme based on LINUX. We brought focus to the crossover architecture supporting RTP. Our contributions are able to be summarized into two components： 1） Enhanced Input/Output （EIO） scheme based on LINUX improves the transmission speed by reducing the overheads generated from data copy and context switch between user area and kernel area. And this enables server-based system to transport multimedia data more efficiently. 2） Furthermore, Enhanced Input/Output scheme with RTP （EIORTP） scheme supports efficient multimedia data transmission architecture. The two schemes improve the performance of massive multimedia data transmission.

Consumers increasingly have worn-out batteries as electrical and electronic equipment with new technical developments are introduced into the market and quickly replace older models. As a result, large amounts of end-of-life （EOL） or waste batteries are generated. Such batteries may contain a variety of materials that includes valuable resources as well as toxic elements. Thus, the proper recycling and management of batteries is very important from the perspective of resource conservation and environmental effect. The collection and recycling of EOL batteries is relatively low in South Korea compared to other countries, although an extended producer responsibility （EPR） policy was adopted for battery recycling in 2003. In this study, the management and material flow of EOL batteries is presented to determine potential problems and quantitative flow, based on literature review, site visits to battery recycling facilities, and interviews with experts in the Korea Battery Recycling Association （KBRA）, manufacturers, and regulators in government. The results show that approximately 558 tons of manganese-alkaline batteries, the largest fraction among recycling target items, was disposed in landfills or incinerators in 2015, while approximately 2,000 tons of batteries were recovered at a recycling facility by simple sorting and crushing processes. By raising environmental awareness, more diverse and effective collection systems could be established for consumers to easily dispose of EOL batteries in many places. Producers, retailers and distributors in South Korea should also play an important role in the collection of EOL batteries from consumers. Lithium-ion batteries from many electronic devices must be included in the EPR system for resource recovery.

Treatment and prognosis of hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma based on SEER data analysis from 1973 to 2014

Background: Hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEH) is a rare tumor of vascular origin with an unknown etiology, a low incidence, and a variable natural course. We evaluated the management and prognosis of HEH from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program and changes in treatment modalities of HEH over 30 years. Methods: From 1973 to 2014 in the SEER database, we selected patients diagnosed with HEH. We analyzed the clinical characteristics, patterns of management, and clinical outcomes of patients with HEH. Results: We identi ed 79 patients with HEH (median age: 54.0 years;male to female ratio: 1:2.6). The initial extent of disease was local in 22 (27.8%) patients, regional metastasis in 22 (27.8%), distant metas-tasis in 31 (39.2%) and unknown in 4 (5.1%). The median size of primary tumor was 3.85 cm (interquartile range, 2.50 7.93 cm). Among 74 patients with available management data, the most common manage-ment was no treatment (29/74, 39.2%), followed by chemotherapy only (22/74, 29.7%), liver resection-based (13/74, 17.6%), and transplantation-based therapy (6/74, 8.1%). The 5-year cancer-speci c survival rate was 57.8%. Patients who underwent surgical treatment had signi cantly higher survival than those who underwent non-surgical treatment (5-year survival;88% vs. 49%, P=0.019). Multivariate analysis revealed that surgical therapy was the only independent prognostic factor for survival (hazard ratio: 0.20, P=0.040). Conclusions: Resection or liver transplantation is worth considering for treatment of patients with HEH.

Objective:To compare the physiologically active substances,antioxidant and anti diabetic activities in vitro of bitter melon fruit and leaf ***:Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were measured using spectrophotometrically by gallic acid and catechin standard curves,*** radical-scavenging potential of bitter melon fruit and leaf extract were measured by DPPH,ABTS and hydroxyl radical scavenging ability and reducing power and anti-diabetic ability was evaluated byα-glucosidase ***:It was confirmed that the bitter melon leaf contained more total polyphenols and flavonoidsthan bitter melon *** melon leaf extract contained 2.8-fold and 4.9-fold higher total polyphenols and flavonoids than bitter melon fruits,*** DPPH radical scavenging activity of bitter melon leaf was 5.81-and 5.70-fold higherthan that of the bitter melon frui,based on200μg/mL and 400μg/mL of the extract,*** ABTS,hydroxyl radical scavenging ability and reducing power,the bitter melon leaf extract all showed higher antioxidant capacity than the bitter melon *** melon fruit showed 2.52-and 2.63-fold higherα-glucosidase inhibitory activity than bitter melon leaf extract at 200μg/mL and 400μg/mL,***:Based on our results,bitter melon may improve antidiabetic effects by upreguatingα-glycosidase ***,bitter melon leaf extract shows higher antioxidant potential than its fruit but bitter melon leaf extract does not show higherα-glucosidase inhibitory potential than bitter melon *** overall results support that bitter melon fruit and leaf may have specific torget effects on antidiabetic and antioxidant,respectively.

A digraph D is oriented if it does not contain 2-cycles. If an oriented digraph D has a directed eulerian path, it is an oriented eulerian digraph. In this paper, when an oriented eulerian digraph D has minimum out-degree 2 and a diameter d, we find the minimum order of D. In addition, when D is 2-regular with diameter 4rn （m≥2）, we classify the extremal cases.

Due to the personal portable devices and advances in wireless communication technologies, Location Dependent Information Services （LDISs） have received a lot of attention from both the industrial and academic communities. In LDISs, it is important to reduce the query response time, since a late query response may contain out-of-date information. In this paper, we study the issue of LDISs using a Voronoi Diagram. We introduce a new NN search method, called the Exponential Sequence Scheme （ESS）, to support NN query processing in periodic broadcast environment. This paper aims to provide research directions towards minimizing both the access latency and energy consumption for the NN-query processing.

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Orostachys japonicus

Objective: To determine the bioactive compounds of Orostachys japonicus(O. japonicus)(Maxim.) A. Berger extraction by different solvents(70% ethanol or water) and to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Methods: Total polyphenol, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents in O. japonicus extract were measured. Antioxidant activities were determined by DPPH, ABTS, and superoxide radical-scavenging ability assays. Anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated by nitric oxide production, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin-6 expression techniques. Results: Extraction with 70% ethanol yielded the highest total polyphenol(60.03 mg/g dry weight) and flavonoid(55.50 mg/g dry weight) contents. The total anthocyanin contents in 70% ethanol and water extracts were 57.25 and 91.71 mg/g dry weight, respectively. The 70% ethanol extract also showed stronger antioxidant activity than the water extract. Antioxidant activity and reducing power increased with the increasing concentration of O. japonicus extract. O. japonicus extract at 0-400 μg/m L did not affect the growth of RAW 264.7 cells, whereas dose-dependent inhibition of nitric oxide, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin-6 production was ***: O. japonicus inhibits oxidative and inflammatory reactions with potentially positive health-related effects.
