Contaminant Flow and Transport Simulation in Cracked Porous Media using Locally Conservative Schemes

The purpose of this paper is to analyze some features of contaminant flow passing through cracked porous medium,such as the influence of fracture network on the advection and diffusion of contaminant species,the impact of adsorption on the overall transport of contaminant *** order to precisely describe the whole process,we firstly build the mathematical model to simulate this problem *** into consideration of the characteristics of contaminant flow,we employ two partial differential equations to formulate the whole *** is flow equation;the other is reactive transport *** first equation is used to describe the total flow of contaminant wastes,which is based on Darcy *** second one will characterize the adsorption,diffusion and convection behavior of contaminant species,which describes most features of contaminant flow we are interested *** the construction of numerical model,we apply locally conservative and compatible algorithms to solve this mathematical ***,we apply Mixed Finite Element(MFE)method to the flow equation and Discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method for the transport *** has a good convergence rate and numerical accuracy for Darcy *** is more flexible and can be used to deal with irregular meshes,as well as little numerical *** these two numerical means,we investigate the sensitivity analysis of different features of contaminant flow in our model,such as diffusion,permeability and fracture *** particular,we study Kd values which represent the distribution of contaminant wastes between the solid and liquid *** also make omparisons of two different schemes and discuss the advantages of both methods.

Coordinated investment and operations within renewable portfolio standards is one of the key technologies to meet the renewable energy target and realize the economic operations of the power *** paper proposes a unified framework of coordinated planning and financial *** investment in renewable energy and energy storage and joint optimization of energy and ancillary services are integrated into a unified *** factors are taken into consideration by the social planner in the centralized electricity market,such as the sitting and sizing of renewable energy and energy storage,charge and discharge efficiency of the energy storage,transmission network constraints,reserve capacity,and financial *** framework provides a tool for the social planner to determine the optimal planning scheme of renewable energy and energy *** conclusion derived is that the sum of market revenue and financial subsidies of renewable energy and energy storage is exactly equal to their investment cost which is obtained by the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT)condition of maximizing social welfare problems.A numerical result based on the modified IEEE-39 bus test system demonstrates the effectiveness of the unified *** impact of financial incentives,reserve capacity,and production costs on capital investment are studied.

Cadmium-based metal-organic frameworks for high-performance electrochemical CO_(2) reduction to CO over wide potential range

Electrochemical CO_(2)reduction(ECR)powered by renewable energy sources provides a sustainable avenue to producing carbon-neutral fuels and *** design and development of high performance,cost-effective,and stable catalysts for ECR remain a focus of intense ***,we report a novel electrocatalyst,two-dimensional cadmium-based 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate metal-organic frameworks(Cd-BDC MOFs)which can effectively convert CO_(2)to CO with a faradaic efficiency(FE)of more than80.0%over the voltage range between-0.9 and-1.1 V(versus reversible hydrogen electrode,***)in 0.1 mol·L^(-1) CO_(2)-saturated KHCO_(3)solution with an H-type cell,reaching up to 88.9%at-1.0 V(***).The performance outperforms commercial CdO and many other MOF-based materials demonstrated in prior *** catalytic property can be readily tuned by manipulating synthesis conditions as well as electrolyte ***,high CO FEs exceeding 90.0%can be attained on the Cd-BDC electrode at potentials ranging from-0.16 to-1.06 V(***)in 0.5 mol·L^(-1) KHCO_(3)solution by using a gas diffusion electrode cell *** maximum CO FE approaches~97.6%at-0.26 V(***)and the CO partial geometric current density is as high as about 108.1 mA·cm^(-2) at-1.1 V(***).This work offers an efficient,low cost,and alternative electrocatalyst for CO_(2)transformation.

Flying insects are capable of flapping their wings to provide the required power and control forces for flight.A coordinated organizational system including muscles,wings,and control architecture plays a significant role,which provides the sources of inspiration for designing flapping-wing *** recent years,due to the development of micro-and meso-scale manufacturing technologies,advances in components technologies have directly led to a progress of smaller Flapping-Wing Nano Air Vehicles(FWNAVs)around gram and sub-gram scales,and these air vehicles have gradually acquired insect-like locomotive strategies and *** paper will present a selective review of components technologies for ultra-lightweight flapping-wing nano air vehicles under 3 g,which covers the novel propulsion methods such as artificial muscles,flight control mechanisms,and the design paradigms of the insect-inspired wings,with a special focus on the development of the driving technologies based on artificial muscles and the progress of the biomimetic *** challenges involved in constructing such small flapping-wing air vehicles and recommendations for several possible future directions in terms of component technology enhancements and overall vehicle performance are also discussed in this *** review will provide the essential guidelines and the insights for designing a flapping-wing nano air vehicle with higher performance.

Effect of structural characteristics on the transport characteristics of solid particles in the thermal storage and release system of circulating fluidized bed

Coal-fired power generation stands as the most economically viable modulating power source in present-day *** holds the potential to offer prospective solutions to the challenges posed by the rapid expansion of intermittent,unpredictable,and unstable renewable energy *** particle thermal storage technology emerges as an effective means to enhance the flexibility of coal-fired circulating fluidized bed power *** attain an optimized structure for the solid particle thermal storage and release system in circulating fluidized bed units,experimental research was conducted on a 0.1 MWth circulating fluidized bed test *** study delved into the impact of ash storage bin geometries and the shapes of their feed-discharge valves on the control properties of solid particle *** experimental outcomes reveal that employing inverted m-shaped valve and dual u-shaped valves for feed control,alongside u-shaped valves and N-shaped valves for discharge control,both enable efficient and rapid storage and release of solid particles within the circulating fluidized *** similar air distribution conditions,the inverted m-shaped valve exhibits lower conveying energy consumption than the dual u-shaped valves,while the N-shaped valve excels in control characteristics over the u-shaped ***,the inverted m-shaped valve and the N-shaped valve demonstrate optimal overflow port heights,and the ash storage bin exhibits an optimum height-to-diameter ratio.

CQDs-doped TiO_(2)(C-TiO_(2))has drawn increased attention in recent because of its excellent catalytic *** the transport of C-TiO_(2)in porous media is necessary for evaluating the environmental process of this new *** experiments were used in this study to investigate ionic strength(IS),dissolved organic matter(DOM)and sand grain size on the transport of C-TiO_(2).The mobility of C-TiO_(2)was inhibited by the increased IS and decreased sand grain size,but was promoted by the increased DOM *** promotion efficiency of DOM ranked as humic acid(HA)>alginate(Alg)>bovine serum albumin(BSA),which was in the same order as their ability to change surface *** micromodels of pore network were prepared via 3D printing to further reveal the deposition mechanisms and spatial/temporal distribution of C-TiO_(2)in porous space.C-TiO_(2)mainly attached to the upstream region of collectors because of *** collector ripening was observed after long-time *** existence of DOM caused visible decrease of C-TiO_(2)deposition in the pore *** caused the most remarkable reduce of deposition in the three types of DOM,which was consistent with the column experiment *** research is helpful to predict the transport of C-TiO_(2)in natural porous media.

Enhanced nitrogen removal upon the addition of volatile fatty acids from activated sludge by combining calcium peroxide and low-thermal pretreatments

This study investigated a combined low-thermal and CaO_(2)pretreatment to enhance the volatile fatty acid(VFA)production from waste activated sludge(WAS).The fermentative product was added to a sequencing batch reactor(SBR)as an external carbon source to enhance nitrogen *** results showed that the combined pretreatment improved WAS solubilization,releasing more biodegradable substrates,such as proteins and polysaccharides,from TB-EPS to LB-EPS and *** maximum VFA production of 3529±188 mg COD/L was obtained in the combined pretreatment(0.2 g CaO_(2)/g VS+70℃for 60 min),which was 2.1 and 1.4-fold of that obtained from the sole low-thermal pretreatment and the control test,***,when the fermentative liquid was added as an external denitrification carbon source,the effluent total nitrogen decreased to Class A of the discharge standard for pollutants in rural wastewater treatment plants in most areas of China.

An enhanced least squares residual RAIM algorithm based on optimal decentralized factor

The Least Squares Residual(LSR)algorithm is commonly used in the Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring(RAIM).However,LSR algorithm presents high Missed Detection Risk(MDR)caused by a large-slope faulty satellite and high False Alert Risk(FAR)caused by a small-slope faulty *** this paper,the LSR algorithm is improved to reduce the MDR for a large-slope faulty satellite and the FAR for a small-slope faulty *** on the analysis of the vertical critical slope,the optimal decentralized factor is defined and the optimal test statistic is conceived,which can minimize the FAR with the premise that the MDR does not exceed its allowable value of all three *** construct a new test statistic approximating to the optimal test statistic,the Optimal Decentralized Factor weighted LSR(ODF-LSR)algorithm is *** new test statistic maintains the sum of pseudo-range residual squares,but the specific pseudo-range residual is weighted with a parameter related to the optimal decentralized *** new test statistic has the same decentralized parameter with the optimal test statistic when single faulty satellite exists,and the difference between the expectation of the new test statistic and the optimal test statistic is the minimum when no faulty satellite *** performance of the ODFLSR algorithm is demonstrated by simulation experiments.

Development and application of state-dependent fractional plasticity in modeling the non-associated behavior of granular aggregates

To characterize the constitutive behavior of granular aggregates, a non-associated plasticity model with two different yield and plastic potential surfaces was usually used. However, in this paper, a state-dependent fractional elastoplastic model is proposed by only perform- ing the first- and fractional-order differentiations of the yield function. The non-associated plastic flow is obtained without using any plastic potential functions. The state dependence is considered by correlating the fractional order with a state parameter. The model is then validated by simulating a series of test results of different granular aggregates, including sand, ballast and rockfill, under a variety of loading conditions.
