Low-intensity treadmill exercise and/or bright light promote neurogenesis in adult rat brain

The hippocampus is a brain region responsible for learning and memory functions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of low-intensity exercise and bright light exposure on neurogenesis and brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression in adult rat hippocampus. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to control, exercise, light, or exercise ＋ light groups （n = 9 per group）. The rats in the exercise group were subjected to treadmill exercise （5 days per week, 30 minutes per day, over a 4-week period）, the light group rats were irradiated （5 days per week, 30 minutes per day, 10 000 Ix, over a 4-week period）, the exercise ＋ light group rats were subjected to treadmill exercise in combination with bright light exposure, and the control group rats remained sedentary over a 4-week period. Compared with the control group, there was a significant increase in neurogenesis in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of rats in the exercise, light, and exercise ＋ light groups. Moreover, the expression level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the rat hippocampal dentate gyrus was significantly higher in the exercise group and light group than that in the control group. Interestingly, there was no significant difference in brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression between the control group and exercise ＋ light group. These results indicate that low-intensity treadmill exercise （first 5 minutes at a speed of 2 m/min, second 5 minutes at a speed of 5 m/min, and the last 20 minutes at a speed of 8 m/min） or bright-light exposure therapy induces positive biochemical changes in the brain. In view of these findings, we propose that moderate exercise or exposure to sunlight during childhood can be beneficial for neural development.

The increasing demand for hydrogen energy to address environmental issues and achieve carbon neutrality has elevated interest in green hydrogen production,which does not rely on fossil *** various hydrogen production technologies,anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer(AEMWE)has emerged as a next-generation technology known for its high hydrogen production efficiency and its ability to use non-metal ***,this technology faces significant challenges,particularly in terms of the membrane durability and low ionic *** address these challenges,research efforts have focused on developing membranes with a new backbone structure and anion exchange groups to enhance durability and ionic ***,the super-acid-catalyzed condensation(SACC)synthesis method stands out due to its user convenience,the ability to create high molecular weight(MW)polymers,and the use of oxygen-tolerant organic *** the synthesis of anion exchange membranes(AEMs)using the SACC method began in 2015,and despite growing interest in this synthesis approach,there remains a scarcity of review papers focusing on AEMs synthesized using the SACC *** review covers the basics of SACC synthesis,presents various polymers synthesized using this method,and summarizes the development of these polymers,particularly their building blocks including aryl,ketone,and anion exchange *** systematically describe the effects of changes in the molecular structure of each polymer component,conducted by various research groups,on the mechanical properties,conductivity,and operational stability of the *** review will provide insights into the development of AEMs with superior performance and operational stability suitable for water electrolysis applications.

Environmental toxicity assessment of chromium (III) oxide nanoparticles using a phytotoxic, cytotoxic, and genotoxic approach

Changes in microorganisms and metabolites during long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce

This study was performed to investigate the changes in microbial communities and metabolites during the long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce. Samples of commercial anchovy sauce were collected from large-scale fermentation tanks with fermentation periods of up to 7.87 years. The complex bacterial community was simplified to two genera， Tetragenococcus and Halanaerobium， after approximately 0.55 years of fermentation. Although genera， such as Saccharomyces， Cladosporium， Candida， and Aspergillus， were relatively dominant， no clear pattern was identified in fungal community analysis. The longitudinal metabolite profile demonstrated that approximately half (55.8%) of the metabolites present in anchovy sauce were produced within a year of fermentation due to rapid fermentation. Despite the static microbial community， the contents of several metabolites including amino acids and biogenic amines changed continuously during the long-term fermentation of anchovy sauce. This study provides novel insights into the changes in microbiota and metabolites in fish sauce produced without any starter inoculation.

White matter changes in 80 mild cognitive impairment patients using magnetic resonance imaging

BACKGROUND： Many studies have suggested that one possible etiology of mild cognitive impairment is small vessel cerebrovascular disease, which is associated with small subcortical infarcts and white matter abnormalities. These white matter changes have been detected as white matter hyperintensity （WMH） using magnetic resonance imaging. WMH may be associated with frontal lobe dysfunction. OBJECTIVE： To examine white matter changes in mild cognitive impairment patients of different subtypes, and to evaluate the correlation between white matter changes and neuropsychological characteristics, demographic information, vascular risk factors, and mild cognitive impairment subtypes. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： The neurophysiological, comparison study was performed at the Department of Neurology Memory Clinic, Ulsan University Hospital, South Korea, between March 2007 and March 2008. PARTICIPANTS： Out of a total of 83 subjects with clinically diagnosed mild cognitive impairment at the out-patient clinic, 3 subjects with severe WMH were excluded. A total of 80 subjects were included in this study. No patients suffered from cognitive impairment induced by neurological diseases, mental disorders, or somatic diseases. In accordance with magnetic resonance imaging results, the patients were assigned to two subtypes： 56 subjects without WMH and 24 subjects with WMH. METHODS： All patients were subjected to a standard neuropsychological battery using the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination, Clinical Dementia Rating, and comprehensive Seoul Neuropsychological Screening Battery. The Clinical Dementia Rating reflected general cognitive function of patients. Results from the Seoul Neuropsychological Screening Battery reflected attention, language function, visuospatial function, verbal memory, nonverbal memory, long-term memory, and frontal/executive function. Clinical Efficacy and Safety of Miniscalpel-Needle Treatment for Tension-Type Headache:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of miniscalpel-needle(MSN)treatment for tension-type headache(TTH).Method:Seven medical databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials(RCTs)evaluating the effect and safety of MSN *** articles published up to November 15,2018 were retrieved.A meta-analysis was conducted for the included studies,and the risk of bias was *** outcomes were visual analogue scale(VAS)or numeric rating scale(NRS)*** outcomes were clinical effective rates including total effective rate(TER),markedly effective rate(MER),and totally cured rate(TCR)determined by improvement in clinical symptoms or VAS scores,the frequency of adverse events(AEs)that occurred during the study,and participant quality of life(QOL).Results:Seven RCTs involving 724 participants were *** treatment showed significantly higher MER and TCR[relative risk(RR)1.27,95%confidence interval(Cl)1.01 to 1.61;RR 1.31,95%Cl 1.09 to 1.57,respectively],but not TER(RR 1.03,95%Cl 0.96 to 1.10)compared to *** treatment plus conventional treatment showed significant lower VAS and higher TER,MER,and TCR(mean difference-3.54,95%Cl-3.80 to-3.28;RR 1.14,95%Cl 1.06 to 1.23;RR 2.31,95%Cl 1.50 to 3.58;RR 3.01,95%Cl 2.25 to 4.02,respectively)compared to conventional ***:According to current evidence,MSN treatment as a monotherapy or as an adjunctive treatment to other existing treatments might have benefits on treating ***,since the number and the sample size of studies included were both small and the methodological quality was poor,the findings of this review should be interpreted with great caution,and our confidence in the results is low.A high quality RCT using objective outcomes should be performed on this topic.
