Machine learning is an emerging tool in the field of materials chemistry for uncovering a principle from large ***,we focus on the spherical precipitation behavior of polymers and computationally extract a hidden trend that is orthogonal to the availability bias in the chemical *** constructing a dataset,four polymers were precipitated from 416 solvent/nonsolvent combinations,and the morphology of the resulting precipitates were *** dataset was subjected to computational investigations consisting of principal component analysis and machine learning based on random forest model and support vector ***,we eliminated the effect of the availability bias and found a linear combination of Hansen parameters to be the most suitable variable for predicting precipitation *** predicted appropriate solvents are those with low hydrogen bonding capability,low polarity,and small molecular ***,we found that the capability for spherical precipitation is orthogonal to the availability bias and forms an extraordinary axis in Hansen space,which is the origin of the conventional difficulty in identifying the *** extraordinary axis points toward a void region,indicating the potential value of synthesizing novel solvents located therein.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is efficient for en bloc resection of large colorectal tumors. However, it has several technical difficulties, because the wall of the colon is thin and due to the winding nature of the colon. The main complications of ESD comprise postoperative perforation and hemorrhage, similar to endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). In particular, the rate of perforation in ESD is higher than that in EMR. Perforation of the colon can cause fatal peritonitis. Endoscopic clipping is reported to be an efficient therapy for perforation. Most cases with perforation are treated conservatively without urgent surgical intervention. However, the rate of postoperative hemorrhage in ESD is similar to that in EMR. Endoscopic therapy including endoscopic clipping is performed and most of the cases are treated conservatively without blood transfusion. In blood examination, some degree of inflammation is detected after ESD. For the standardization of ESD, it is most important to decrease the rate of perforation. Adopting a safe strategy for ESD and a suitable choice of knife are both important waysof preventing perforation. Moreover, appropriate training and increasing experience can improve the endoscopic technique and can decrease the rate of perforation. In this review, we describe safe procedures in ESD to prevent complications, the complications of ESD and their management.

AIM： To examine the association of inducible nitric oxide synthase （iNOS） C150T polymorphism with gastric cancer, as well as with gastric atrophy and H pylori ***： A single nucleotide polymorphism of iNOS CtSOT was examined for 454 Japanese health checkup examinees （126 males and 328 females） aged 35 to 85 years without a history of cancer and 202 gastric cancer patients （134 males and 68 females） aged 33 to 94 years with pathologically confirmed diagnosis of gastric adenocarcinoma.RESULTS： The iNOS C150T polymorphism was not associated with gastric atrophy or with H pylori seropositivity. The odds ratio （OR） of the C/T ＋T/T for gastric cancer was increased without statistical significance （OR=1.19, 95% confidence interval （CI）： 0.68-2.08）. In the differentiated subgroup （n = 113）, however, the OR of the C/T genotvpe for gastric cancer was significant （OR = 2.02, 95% CI： 1.04-3.92） relative to the C/C genotype. In addition, considering the location of gastric cancer （n = 105）, there were significant differences between the controls and non-cardia group with the ORof 2.13 （95% CI： 1.08-4.18） for C/T and 1.94 （95% CI： 1.00-3.78） for C/T ＋ T/***： The iNOS C150T polymorphism is associated with the risk of H pylori-related gastric cancer in a Japanese population. This polymorphism may play an important role in increasing the risk of gastric cancer in Asian countires with the highest rates of gastric cancer.

AIM: To investigate the role that the hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway, which includes sonic hedgehog (Shh), Patched (Ptc), Smoothened (Smo) and Gli-1, plays in hu- man gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). METHODS: Surgically resected specimens from pa- tients with GISTs, leiomyomas and schwannomas were examined by immunohistochemical staining for aberrant expression of hedgehog signaling components, Shh, Ptc, Smo and Gli-1, respectively. RESULTS: In GISTs, 58.1% (18 of 31), 77.4% (24 of 31), 80.6% (25 of 31) and 58.1% (18 of 31) of the specimens stained positive for Shh, Ptc, Smo and Gli-1, respectively. In leiomyomas, 92.3% (12 of 13), 92.3% (12 of 13), 69.2% (9 of 13) and 92.3% (12 of 13) stained positive for Shh, Ptc, Smo and Gli-1, respectively. In schwannomas, 83.3% (5 of 6), 83.3% (5 of 6), 83.3% (5 of 6) and 100% (6 of 6) stained positive for Shh, Ptc, Smo and Gli-1, respectively. Immunohistochemistry revealed that the expressions of Shh and Gli-1 were sig- nificantly higher in leiomyomas than in GISTs (P < 0.05, respectively). Shh expression strongly correlated with the grade of tumor risk category and with tumor size (P < 0.05, respectively). However, the expressions of Ptc and Smo did not correlate with histopathological differentiation. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the Hh sig- naling pathway may play an important role in myogenic differentiation and the malignant potential of human in-testinal stromal tumors.

The quantitation of serum tocilizumab using liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS)method has not been widely applied in clinical settings because of its time-consuming and costly sample *** present study aimed to develop a validated LC-MS/MS method for detecting serum tocilizumab by utilizing immobilized trypsin without an immunoglobulin G purification step and evaluate its applicability in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA)patients administered intravenously or subcutaneously with *** tocilizumab-derived signature peptide was deciphered using a nano-LC system coupled to a hybrid quadrupole-orbitrap mass *** serum tocilizumab was rapidly digested by immobilized trypsin for 30 *** chromatographic peak of the signature peptide and that of the internal standard were separated from the serum digests for a total run time of 15 *** calibration curve of serum tocilizumab concentration was linear with a range of 2-200 μg/*** intra-and inter-day accuracy and relative standard deviation(RSD)were 90.7%-109.4%and<10%,*** serum tocilizumab concentrations in the RA patients receiving intravenous and subcutaneous injections were 5.8-28.9 and 2.4-63.5 μg/mL,*** serum tocilizumab concentrations using the current method positively correlated with those using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,although a systematic error was observed between these *** conclusion,a validated LC-MS/MS method with minimal sample pretreatments for monitoring serum tocilizumab concentrations in RA patients was developed.

Aim： To report two cases of the left testicular artery arching over the left renal vein （LRV） before running downward to the testis. Methods： The subjects were obtained from two Japanese cadavers. During the student course of gross-anatomical dissection, the anatomical relationship between the testicular vessels and the renal vein was specifically observed. Results： The arching left testicular artery arose from the aorta below the LRV and made a loop around the LRV, which appeared to be mildly compressed between the arching artery and the psoas major muscle. Conclusion： Clinically, compression of the LRV between the abdominal aorta and the superior mesenteric artery occasionally induces LRV hypertension, resulting in varicocele, orthostatic protenuria and hematuria. Considering that the incidence of a left arching testicular artery is higher than that of a right one, an arching left artery could be an additional cause of LRV hypertension. （Asian J Androl 2006 Jan; 8： 107-110）

AIM:To evaluate a new hemostatic method using hemostatic forceps to prevent perforation and perioperative hemorrhage during colonic endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD).METHODS:We studied 250 cases,in which ESD for colorectal tumors was performed at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine or Nara City Hospital between 2005 and *** developed a new hemostatic method using hemostatic forceps in December 2008 for the efficient treatment of submucosal thick *** was performed on 126 cases after adoption of the new method(the adopted group)and the new method was performed on 102 of these *** was performed on 124 cases before the adoption of the new method (the unadopted group).The details of the new method are as follows:firstly,a vessel was coagulated using the hemostatic forceps in the soft coagulation mode according to the standard procedure,and the coagulated vessel was removed using the forceps in the"endocut" mode without perioperative ***,the partial surrounding submucosa was dissected using the forceps in the endocut *** the current study,we evaluated the efficacy of this ***:Coagulated vessels were successfully removed using the hemostatic forceps in all 102 cases without severe perioperative *** perioperative hemorrhage occurred in five cases(4.9%);however,it was stopped by immediately reuse of the hemostatic *** partial surrounding submucosa was dissected using the forceps in all 102 *** the adopted group,the median operation time was 105 *** proportion of endoscopic en bloc resection was 92.8%(P<0.01)compared to 80.6%in the unadopted *** postoperative hemorrhage and perforation rates were 2.3%and 2.3%.The rate of perforation was significantly lower than that in the unadopted group (9.6%,P<0.01).We evaluated the ease of use of this method by allowing our three trainees to performed ESD on 46 cases,which were accomplished without any severe ***:The new

AIM： To investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF/and its receptors VEGFR-1 and 2 in the growth and differentiation of gastrointestinal strornal tumors （GISTs）. METHODS： Thirty-three GISTs, 15 leiomyomas and 6 schwannomas were examined by immunohistochemistry in this study. RESULTS： VEGF protein was expressed in the cytoplasm of tumor cells, and VEGFRol and 2 were expressed both in the cytoplasm and on the membrane of all tumors. Irnrnunohistochernical staining revealed that 26 GISTs （78.8%）, 9 leiornyornas （60.0%） and 3 schwannornas （50.0%/were positive for VEGF; 24 GISTs （72.7%/, 12 leiornyornas （80.0%） and 4 schwannornas （66.7%） were positive for VEGFR-1; 30 GISTs （90.9%/, 5 leiornyornas （33.3%/and 4 schwannornas （66.7%） were positive for VEGFR-2. VEGFR-2 expression was statistically different between GISTs and leiomyomas （P 〈 0.0001）. However, there was no correlation between the expression of VEGF pathway componenets and the clinical risk categories. CONCLUSION： Our results suggest that the VEGF pathway may play an important role in the differentiation of GISTs, leiomyomas and schwannomas.
