Assessing the Factors Influencing Effective Municipal Solid Waste Management System in Barishal Metropolitan Areas

Unorganized municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal system leads to stress on ecosystems and disturbs various nature cycles and human health. Solid waste management all over world is looked as a major challenge to civil bodies, especially in developing countries like Bangladesh. The proper management system of municipal solid waste depends on various factors like social, cultural, financial, political, environmental, physical and institutional and so on. The purpose of this study is to explore the leading factors that affect the solid waste management in Barishal city. For achieving this purpose, this research first has identified the socio-economic, cultural, physical and technical, institutional and environmental factors and then analyzed the factors which affect the solid waste management system in the study area. To achieve the purpose of the study, quantitative method has been used in this research. As a sample of this study, 150 household heads from total household members of the city have been selected randomly by using lottery method. A structured questionnaire has been constructed for collecting quantitative data. The quantitative data have been analyzed in this study by using SPSS Program, and Microsoft Excel. The findings of the study show that all city people know solid waste and solid waste management stakeholders present in the city and waste pickers collect all types of waste in the city and socio-economic, cultural, physical and technical, institutional factors affect the effective solid waste management in the study area where environmental factors have no influence on effective solid waste management in the study area. The study people have a bad impression of the current existing management system of the solid waste and they express their expectations where they mention that if municipal authorities improve the condition of the infrastructure, roads and vehicles;allow more budgets to manage waste;take proper strategies and planning to manage waste smartly like imposing fines, set up rules, then th

AIM:To investigate the changing pattern of different histological parameters occurring in the stomach tissue of Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infected tribal populations and duodenal ulcer patients among ethnic Bengalis and correlation of the genotypes of H pylori with different histological parameters.were enrolled into this study between 2002 and 2004. Among them,72 had clinical features of duodenal ulcer (DU) from ethnic Bengali population and 40 were asymptomatic ethnic tribals. Endoscopic gastric biopsy samples were processed for histology,genotyping and rapid urease test. Histologically,haematoxylin and eosin staining was applied to assess the pathomorphological changes and a modified Giemsa staining was used for better detection of H pylori. For intestinal metaplasia,special stainings,i.e. Alcian blue periodic acid-Schiff and high iron diamine-Alcian blue staining,were performed. PCR was performed on bacterial DNA to characterize the presence or absence of virulence-associated genes,like cagA,and distribution of different alleles of vacA and iceA. RESULTS:Intraglandular neutrophil infiltration,a hallmark of activity of gastritis,was present in 34 (94%) of tribals (TRs) and 42 (84%) of DU individuals infected with H pylori. Lymphoid follicles and aggregates,which are important landmarks in H pylori infection,were positive amongst 15 (41%) of TRs and 20 (40%) of DU subjects. Atrophic changes were observed in 60% and 27.7%,respectively,among DU cases and tribals (P > 0.003). Metaplastic changes were detected in low numbers in both groups. Moderate to severe density distribution of H pylori in the gastric mucosa was 63% among TRs,whereas it was 62% in DU subjects. There were no significant differences in the distribution of virulence-associated genes like cagA,vacA and iceA of H pylori strains carried by these two populations. CONCLUSION:Our study showed almost similar distribution of inflammatory cells among asymptomatic tribals and DU Bengali patients. Interestingly,the tribal population are free from any c

Parameters Effect on Heat Transfer Augmentation in a Cavity with Moving Horizontal Walls

Mixed convection flow is one of the essential criteria of fluid flow and heat transfer. And its application has been increased due to modernization of society. So, to compete with the global world an analysis has been investigated numerically. In this study we have considered 2D double lid driven cavity with two-sided adiabatic walls. This problem is illustrated mathematically by a collection of governing equations and the developed model has been solved numerically by using Finite Difference Method (FDM). The goal of the present study is to analyze numerically the thermal behaviour and parameters effect on heat transfer inside the 2D chamber. Also this analysis has been observed for the case where the upper wall is moving at positive direction and lower wall is moving at negative direction with constant speed. Furthermore, we have tried to analyze the velocity and temperature profiles for a vast range of dimensionless parameters namely Reynolds number (Re), Richardson number (Ri)?and Prandtl number?(Pr)?and presented graphically. Moreover, it is found that these flow parameters have significant effects in controlling the flow behavior inside the cavity. A comparison has been done to validate our code and found a good agreement. Finally, average Nusselt number (Nu)?has been studied for the effects of these parameters and presented in tabular form.

A Comparative Study and Performance Analysis of ATM Card Fraud Detection Techniques

ATM card fraud is increasing gradually with the expansion of modern technology and global communication. In the whole world, it is resulting in the loss of billions of dollars each year. Fraud detection systems have become essential for all ATM card issuing banks to minimize their losses. The main goals are, firstly, to review alternative techniques that have been used in fraud detection and secondly compare and analyze these techniques that are already used in ATM card fraud detection. Recently different card security systems used different fraud detection techniques;these techniques are based on neural network, genetic algorithm, hidden Markov model, Bayesian network, decision tree, clustering method, support vector machine, etc. According to our survey, the most important parameters used for comparing these fraud detection systems are accuracy, speed and cost of fraud detection. This study is very useful for any ATM card provider to choose an appropriate solution for fraud detection problem and also enable us to build a hybrid approach for developing some effective algorithms which can perform properly on fraud detection mechanism.

Globally,carcinoma of lung is the predominant cause of cancer death among both men and women.While hematogenous spread from primary lung cancer to multiple other organs is frequently reported,metastases of malignant tumors to diaphragm and spleen are rare.Nowadays,Positron emission tomography(PET)with 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG)has emerged in such a way that it has become an effective imaging technology for the evaluation of different carcinomas,particularly for cancer staging and follow up after therapy.PET scan is able to provide metabolic information.In this case,we present an attractive unified PET/CT scan image in a patient with lung carcinoma having unusual diaphragm and splenic metastases.So,PET/CT imaging could strongly identified rare and unusual metastatic sites of cancer and added more appropriate staging in patient with carcinoma of lung.

A Comparative Study of Thyroid Hormone and Lipid Status of Patient with and without Diabetes in Adults

Introduction: Lipid and thyroid function abnormalities are common in IDDM and NIDDM. Very few studies have addressed this issue in Bangladesh though Bangladeshi population is very much susceptible to patient with diabetes. Aims: To study on lipid profile and thyroid function in IDDM and NIDDM and the effect of glycemic control on it. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out in the Dept. of Endocrinology, BIRDEM, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period of January, 2012 to May, 2012. In this study, population consisted of 120 subjects (Age between 40 - 72 years;and Sex matched) divided into two groups: patient with diabetes 60 subjects (male-30, female-30) and patient without diabetes 60 subjects (male-30, female-30). Plasma glucose, HbA1c and serum lipids were measured by enzymatic method. Thyroid hormones were measured by a Chemiluminescent Micro particle Immunoassay (CMIA).Results: The statistical significance was evaluated by Student’s t-test, Correlation-Coefficient test. All Values are given as mean ± SD. The level of serum TSH in patient with diabetes (3.43 ± 2.71) was significantly (p 0.05) increased compared to patient without diabetes subjects (1.98 ± 1.72). TSH levels were positively correlated with fasting plasma glucose (r = 0.240, p 0.05), serum cholesterol (r = 0.290, p 0.020) and triglyceride concentration (r = 0.246, p 0.05). On the other hand, free T4 levels were inversely correlated with postprandial blood glucose (r =-0.256, p 0.046). Conclusions: It may be concluded that the lipid and thyroid function abnormalities with others socio-demographic and biophysical risk factors were more common in patient with diabetes cases rather than patient without diabetes cases. Therefore, further prospective studies with larger number of patients are required to strengthen the observations of the present study.

所有数据显示紧密纺纱织物的性能及其他物理参数优于精梳纱织物。相对于传统的环锭纺,紧密纺纱的毛羽指数低、强度高、条干均匀。紧密纺和环锭纺纱线结构上的差异明显地影响其织物性能。因此,尽管所有其他织物参数都相同,紧密纺纱生产的针织物相对于环锭纺纱针织物还是有着较短的线圈长度、较高的面密度、断裂强度、断裂伸长、顶破强力,以及更少的起毛起球。紧密纺纱线生产的针织物仅耐磨性稍差于环锭纺纱针织物。
