Six sterically hindered chloro meso-tetra-ortho-alkylphenylporphinato irons (T(o-R)PPFe(III)Cl, R = Me, Et, n-pr, i-pr, n-Bu, t-Bu) were synthesized and used to catalyze the monooxygenation of cyclohexane with PhIO. Both the yields of cyclohexanol and the relative rates of monooxygenation of cyclohexane catalyzed by T(o-R) PPFe(IIl)Cl were higher than those of TPPFe(III)Cl respectively. The order of the yields(%) of cyclohexanol and the rate of cyclohexanol formation in the monooxygenation of cyclohexane catalyzed by T(o-R)PPFe(III)Cl for the different substituents are: i-pr(58) > Et(57) > n-pr(52) > Me(51) > n-Bu(48) > t-Bu(46) > H(35) and i-pr > Et > t-Bu > n-PT greater than or equal to Me greater than or equal to n-Bu greater than or equal to H respectively. The special steric effect on the catalytic character of these different alkyl substituents in T(o-R)PPFe(III)Cl is proposed on the basis of the results.

Synthesis of ion imprinted polymers for selective recognition and separation of rare earth metals

Lanthanide-ion imprinted polymers（L-IIPs） were synthesized by stoichiometric amounts of rare earth ions and the cavities in the polymers were created for the corresponding lanthanide ions. The maximum sorption capacities were estimated to be 125.3, 126.5, 127.6, 128.2 and 129.1 mg/g for pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Gd, respectively at p H 6. In the selectivity study, the L-IIPs exhibited good selectivity to the specific rare earth ions in the presence of coexisting cations. The imprinting results were found to be excellent with some rare earth ions over other competitor rare earth ions with the same charges and close ionic radius.

The influence of physical and chemical parameters on the abundance and diversity of chironomids was studied in six rivers with moderate to highly polluted water in the Juru River Basin. The rivers: Ceruk Tok Kun (CTKR) as reference site, and polluted rivers of Pasir (pr), Juru (JR), Permatang Rawa (prR), Ara (AR) and Kilang Ubi (KUR) were sampled over a period of five months (November 2007-March 2008). Nine chirnomid species: Chironimus kiiensis, C. javanus, Polypedilum trigonus, Microchironomus sp., Dicrotendipes sp., Tanytarsus formosanus, Clinotanypus sp., Tanypus punctipennis and Fittkauimyia sp. were identified. Assessment of their relationships with several environmental parameters was performed using the canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). Tanytarsus formosanus was the most dominant in the relatively clean CTKR and moderately polluted JR with mean densities of 19.66 and 25.32 m 2 , respectively while C. kiiensis was abundant in more polluted rivers. Tanytarsus formosanus, Dicrotendipes sp. and Microchironomus sp. were grouped under moderate to high water temperature, total organic matter (TOM), total suspended solids (TSS), velocity, pH, phosphates and sulphates. However, Tanypus punctipennis, Fittkauimyia sp., and Clinotanypus sp. were associated with high contents of river sediment such as TOM, Zn and Mn and water ammonium-N and nitrate-N and they were associated with higher dissolved oxygen (DO) content in the water. Chironomus kiiensis, C. javanus and P. trigonus showed positive relationships with TOM, ammonium-N and nitrate-N as well as trace metals of Zn, Cu and Mn. These three species could be considered as tolerant species since they have the ability to survive in extreme environmental conditions with low DO and high concentrations of pollutants. Based on the water parameter scores in all rivers, the highest diversity of chironomid larvae was reported in CTKR. ＜正＞To preserve function and achieve a good cosmetic result,the truncal back suffering from partial thickness burn was used as donor for split ***-seven patients with 62～96%total body surface area（TBSA） burn,including 24～70%full-thickness burn were admitted to our hospital from September 1997 to October *** the patients in this group were suffered partial-thickness burn in the truncal back. During the early treatment,we emphasized the importance to protect and promote the wound healing *** burned area of truncal back was chosen as a donor site to graft the other deep burn parts of body as soon as the back wound was epithelialized,which usually was harvested in day 12 to 17 post *** split thickness grafts were taken and used directly to close excised deep burn,especially to the functional areas. Re-harvesting of grafts from the same truncal back donor site was performed 2 to 3 times after about 10 to 12 days recovery for each operation in some *** aesthetic and functional outcomes were achieved in grafted areas without observable donor site deformity.

The heat generation effects on magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) natural convection flow along a vertical wavy surface with variable thermal conductivity have been investigated. The governing boundary layer equations are first transformed into a non-dimensional form using suitable set of dimensionless variables. The resulting nonlinear system of partial differential equations are mapped into the domain of a vertical flat plate and then solved numerically employing the implicit finite difference method, known as Keller-box scheme. The numerical results of the surface shear stress in terms of skin friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer in terms of local Nusselt number, the stream lines as well as the isotherms are shown graphically for a selection of parameters set consisting of thermal conductivity variation parameter, heat generation parameter Q, magnetic parameter M and prandtl number pr. Comparison of numerical results of present work with other published data has been shown in table.

A well-known adsorbent, poly(amidoxime)ligand, was prepared from polyacrylonitrile(PAN) grafted kenaf cellulose, and subsequent characterization was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS).The adsorption capacities of the prepared ligand for rare earth metals are found to be excellent, with adsorptions of La^(3+), Ce^(3+), pr^(3+), Gd^(3+) and Nd^(3+) experimentally determined to be 262, 255, 244, 241 and 233 mg·g^(-1), respectively, at pH 6. The experimental values of the adsorption of rare earth metals are well matched with the pseudosecond-order rate equation. The reusability of the adsorbent is examined for seven cycles of sorption/desorption,demonstrating that the proposed adsorbent could be reused for over seven cycles without any significant loss in the original removal capability of the ligand.
