One-year observation of the mixing states of oxygenated organics-containing single particles in Guangzhou,China

Oxygenated organic molecules(OOMs)play an important role in the formation of secondary organic aerosols(SOAs),but the mixing states of OOMs are still unclear.This study investigates the mixing states of OOM-containing single particles from the measurements taken using a single particle aerosol mass spectrometer in Guangzhou,China in 2022.Generally,the particle counts of OOM particles and the mass concentration of secondary organic carbon(SOC)exhibited similar temporal trends throughout the entire year.The OOM particles were consistently enriched in secondary ions,including 16O−,26CN−,46NO2−,62NO3−,and 97HSO4−.In contrast,the number fractions and diurnal patterns of OOM particles among the total detected particles showed similar distributions in August and October;however,the SOC ratios in fine particulate matter were quite different,suggesting that there were different mixing states of single-particle oxygenated organics.In addition,further classification results indicated that the OOM particles were more aged in October than August,even though the SOC ratios were higher in August.Furthermore,the distribution of hydrocarbon fragments exhibited a notable decrease from January to October,emphasizing the more aged state of the organics in October.In addition,the sharp increase in elemental carbon(EC)-OOM particles in the afternoon in October suggests the potential role of EC in the aging process of organics.Overall,in contrast to the bulk analysis of SOC mass concentration,the mixing states of the OOM particles provide insights into the formation process of SOAs in field studies.

Organic nitrogen(ON)compounds play a significant role in the light absorption of brown carbon and the formation of organic aerosols,however,the mixing state,secondary formation processes,and influencing factors of ON compounds are still unclear.This paper reports on the mixing state of ON-containing particles based on measurements obtained using a highperformance single particle aerosol mass spectrometer in January 2020 in Guangzhou.The ON-containing particles accounted for 21% of the total detected single particles,and the particle count and number fraction of the ON-containing particles were two times higher at night than during the day.The prominent increase in the content of ON-containing particles with the enhancement of NO_xmainly occurred at night,and accompanied by high relative humidity and nitrate,which were associated with heterogeneous reactions between organics and gaseous NO_(x)and/or NO_(3)radical.The synchronous decreases in ON-containing particles and the mass absorption coefficient of water-soluble extracts at 365 nm in the afternoon may be associated with photo-bleaching of the ON species in the particles.In addition,the positive matrix factorization analysis found five factors dominated the formation processes of ON particles,and the nitrate factor(33%)mainly contributed to the production of ON particles at night.The results of this study provide unique insights into the mixing states and secondary formation processes of the ON-containing particles.

Exercise precision medicine for type 2 diabetes:Targeted benefit or risk?

Concurrent exercise and metformin administration may reduce the acute and chronic effects of exercise on glucose metabolism in the patients with type 2 diabetes(T2D).However,several studies suggest that combing metformin and exercise treatment may have neither additive effect nor even cause adverse effects in T2D patients.This case report aimed to highlight the challenges associated with prescribing exercise to type 2 diabetes patients undergoing metformin treatment.A 67-years old woman was followed-up for five months,including assessment of the acute and chronic glucose and lactate metabolism induced by concomitant exercise and metformin.The findings were four-fold:1)During a high-intensity interval training bout,blood glucose systematically decreased,while blood lactate concentrations fluctuated randomly;2)Basal blood lactate levels were well above 2 mmol/L on days with medication only;3)Combined exercise and metformin administration induced additive effects on the normalization of glucose and 4)high levels of physical activity had a positive impact on the continuous glucose fluctuations,while decreased levels of physical activity induced a large fluctuation of glucose due to home confinement of an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.Our findings showed that when combined with exercise and metformin treatment for T2D patients,exercise may contribute to improving glycemic control while metformin may elevate lactate levels in the long term.The observed results underline the need to prescribe exercise and monitor lactate levels for reducing possible risks associated with metformin treatment and reinforce the importance of tailoring exercise therapy.

This study investigated the factors that are associated with sleep disturbances among Chinese athletes.Sleep quality and associated factors were assessed by the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire(ASSQ,n?394,aged 18–32 years,47.6%female).Sleep difficulty score(SDS)and level of sleep problem(none,mild,moderate,or severe)were used to classify participants'sleep quality.Categorical variables were analyzed by Chi-square or fisher's exact tests.An ordinal logistic regression analysis was used to explore factors with poor sleep(SDS8).Approximately 14.2%of participants had moderate to severe sleep problem(SDS8).Fifty-nine percent of the athletes reported sleep disturbance during travel,while 43.3%experienced daytime dysfunction when travelling for competition.No significant difference was found in the SDS category between gender,sports level and events.Athletes with evening chronotype were more likely to report worse sleep than athletes with morning and intermediate chronotype(OR,2.25;95%CI,1.44–3.52;p<0.001).For each additional year of age,there was an increase of odds ratio for poor sleep quality(OR,1.15;95%CI,1.04–1.26;p?0.004),while each additional year of training reduced the odds ratio(OR,0.95;95%CI,0.91–0.99;p?0.044).To improve sleep health in athletes,chronotype,travel-related issues,age and years of training should be taken into consideration.

运动在促进健康和预防疾病中一直发挥着积极的作用,大量研究已从多个维度提供了运动有益健康的科学证据,然而人们对其分子和细胞机制却知之甚少。不断深化运动的分子和细胞机制研究,破译特定类型的运动与人体特定组织之间的联系,并将相关知识转化到医学和健康实践中来,仍是目前生命科学面临的巨大挑战。在这方面,新兴的系统生物学从信号网络系统层面提供了新的视角,为建立个性化的生活方式和干预方案奠定了基础。而一些全新的分子生物学概念及生物技术(如力敏感蛋白PIEZOs、自噬和微生物组学等)正在全面改变人类对运动(力信号刺激)影响人体系统的认知。研究分析了当前运动研究领域所面临的机遇与挑战,建议从生物力学以及运动科学跨维度交互作用的视角重新认知运动,研究健康敏感指标与运动即刻响应和适应性的相互关系与可信度,促进运动转化医学的发展。

目的:本研究旨在分析有氧运动干预停止后,运动对超重/肥胖女性腹部脂肪含量和胰岛素抵抗(HOMA-IR)的作用是否消失。方法:研究对象来自2项相似的独立有氧运动干预研究。研究Ⅰ中,15名绝经后并患有糖尿病的超重,肥胖女性(BMI=24-33 kg/m^2,年龄52-65岁)完成为期8个月的有氧运动干预,并在干预停止后2年随访。研究Ⅱ中,12名绝经前的超重/肥胖妇女(BMI=25-35 kg/m^2,年龄30-50岁)接受为期6周的有氧运动干预,并在干预停止后4年随访。运动方案中,运动强度为60%-75%最大摄氧量、每次30-60 min,每周3-5次运动。通过双能X线(DXA Prodigy;研究1)或生物电阻抗(Inbody 720;研究Ⅱ)测定脂肪含量。用化学荧光免疫法测定血浆葡萄糖和胰岛素水平,算出胰岛素抵抗水平(HOMA-IR)。结果:8个月和6周中等强度有氧运动干预均能有效降低HOMA-IR(-18.9%,p=0.012;-26.7%,p=0.046),8个月的有氧运动干预使上腹部脂肪含量降低(-6.2%,p=0.021),但这些作用在干预停止后的随访中均消失。结论:有氧运动干预能有效降低超重/肥胖女性的腹部脂肪含量和胰岛素抵抗水平。但无论短期还是长期有氧运动,在干预停止后其产生的益处都消退。因此,为获得长期益处,有必要维持长期有氧运动。
