Substrates or encapsulants in soft and stretchable formats are key components for transient,bioresorbable electronic systems;however,elastomeric polymers with desired mechanical and biochemical properties are very limited compared to nontransient counterparts.Here,we introduce a bioresorbable elastomer,poly(glycolide-co-ε-caprolactone)(PGCl),that contains excellent material properties including high elongation-at-break(lience and toughness,and tunable dissolution behaviors.Exploitation of PGCls as polymer matrices,in combination with conducing polymers,yields stretchable,conductive composites for degradable interconnects,sensors,and actuators,which can reliably function under external strains.Integration of device components with wireless modules demonstrates elastic,transient electronic suture system with on-demand drug delivery for rapid recovery of postsurgical wounds in soft,time-dynamic tissues.

Background This study investigated the effects of inorganic and organic minerals on physiological responses,oxidative stress reduction,and rumen microbiota in Holstein bull calves(123.81±9.76 kg;5 months old)during short-term heat stress(HS)and recovery periods.Eight Holstein calves were randomly assigned to four treatment groups:no mineral supplementation(Con),inorganic minerals(IM),organic minerals(OM),and high-concentration organic minerals(HOM)and two thermal environments(HS and recovery)using 4×2 factorial arrangement in a crossover design of four periods of 35 d.Calves were maintained in a temperature-controlled barn.The experimental period consisted of 14 d of HS,14 d of recovery condititon,and a 7-d washing period.Results Body temperature and respiration rate were higher in HS than in the recovery conditions(Plenium concentration in serum was high in the HOM-supplemented calves in both HS(90.38μg/dl)and recovery periods(102.00μg/dl)(Pl was 20.26 ng/ml in the HOM group,which was 5.60 ng/ml lower than in the control group(Pl antioxidant status was the highest in the OM group(2.71 mmol Trolox equivalent/l),followed by the HOM group during HS,whereas it was highest in the HOM group(2.58 mmol Trolox equivalent/l)during the recovery period(Plasma malondialdehyde and HSP70 levels were decreased by HOM supplementation during the HS and recovery periods,whereas SOD and GPX levels were not significantly affected(P>0.05).The principal coordinate analysis represented that the overall rumen microbiota was not influenced by mineral supplementation;however,temperature-induced microbial structure shifts were indicated(PERMANOVA:Plum level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria decreased,whereas Fibrobacteres,Spirochaetes,and Tenericutes increased(Ple Christensenella was higher in recovery conditions(Plusion HOM supplementation during HS reduced cor

BACKGROUND Hemothorax is a rare but life-threatening complication of central venous catheterization.Recent reports suggest that ultrasound guidance may reduce complications however,it does not guarantee safety CASE SUMMARY A 75-year-old male patient was admitted for laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.Under ultrasound guidance,right internal jugular vein catheterization was successfully achieved after failure to aspirate blood from the catheter in the first attempt.Sudden hypotension developed after surgical positioning and persisted until the end of the operation,lasting for about 4 h.In the recovery room,a massive hemothorax was identified on chest radiography and computed tomography.The patient recovered following chest tube drainage of 1.6 l blood.CONClUSION Hemothorax must be suspected when unexplained hemodynamic instability develops after central venous catheterization despite ultrasound guidance.So the proper use of ultrasound is important.

Recombinant interleukin-33(Il-33)inhibits tumor growth,but the detailed immunological mechanism is still unknown.Il-33-mediated tumor suppression did not occur in Batf3^(−/−)mice,indicating that conventional type 1 dendritic cells(cDC1s)play a key role in Il-33-mediated antitumor immunity.A population of CD103^(+)cDC1s,which were barely detectable in the spleens of normal mice,increased significantly in the spleens of Il-33-treated mice.The newly emerged splenic CD103^(+)cDC1s were distinct from conventional splenic cDC1s based on their spleen residency,robust effector T-cell priming ability,and surface expression of FCGR3.DCs and DC precursors did not express Suppressor of Tumorigenicity 2(ST2).However,recombinant Il-33 induced spleen-resident FCGR3^(+)CD103^(+)cDC1s,which were found to be differentiated from DC precursors by bystander ST2+immune cells.Through immune cell fractionation and depletion assays,we found that Il-33-primed ST2^(+)basophils play a crucial role in the development of FCGR3^(+)CD103^(+)cDC1s by secreting Il-33-driven extrinsic factors.Recombinant GM-CSF also induced the population of CD103^(+)cDC1s,but the population neither expressed FCGR3 nor induced any discernable antitumor immunity.The population of FCGR3^(+)CD103^(+)cDC1s was also generated in vitro culture of Flt3l-mediated bone marrow-derived DCs(Fl-BMDCs)when Il-33 was added in a pre-DC stage of culture.Fl-BMDCs generated in the presence of Il-33(Fl-33-DCs)offered more potent tumor immunotherapy than control Flt3l-BMDCs(Fl-DCs).Human monocyte-derived DCs were also more immunogenic when exposed to Il-33-induced factors.Our findings suggest that recombinant Il-33 or an Il-33-mediated DC vaccine could be an attractive protocol for better tumor immunotherapy.

Recently,a number of studies reported that casein was composed of various multifunctional bioactive peptides such as casein phosphopeptide andβ-casochemotide-1 that bind calcium ions and induce macrophage chemotaxis,which is crucial for bone homeostasis and bone fracture repair by cytokines secreted in the process.We hypothesized that the effects of the multifunctional biopeptides in casein would contribute to improving bone regeneration.Thus,we designed a tissue engineering platform that consisted of casein and polyvinyl alcohol,which was a physical-crosslinked scaffold(milk-derived protein;MDP),via simple freeze-thaw cycles and performed surface modification using 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine(DOPA),a mussel adhesive protein,for immobilizing adhesive proteins and cytokines for recruiting cells in vivo(MDP-DOPA).Both the MDP and MDP-DOPA groups proved indirectly contribution of macrophages migration as RAW 264.7 cells were highly migrated toward materials by contained bioactive peptides.We implanted MDP and MDP-DOPA in a mouse calvarial defect orthotopic model and evaluated whether MDP-DOPA showed much faster mineral deposition and higher bone density than that of the no-treatment and MDP groups.The MDP-DOPA group showed the accumulation of host M2 macrophages and mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)around the scaffold,whereas MDP presented mostly M1 macrophages in the early stage.

Hepatocellular carcinoma presenting as organized liver abscess:A case report

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is difficult to treat and has a high mortality rate,emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.If characteristic radiologic findings and underlying liver disease are present,a diagnosis can be made without a biopsy.However,when HCC is accompanied by a liver abscess,diagnosis might be delayed by atypical radiologic findings.This case report aims to assist in the diagnosis of HCC,which can manifest in various forms.CASE SUMMARY A 75-year-old male presented to the Emergency Department with worsening fever and mental changes.He was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis six months earlier.Abdominal computed tomography(CT)raised our suspicion of an organized liver abscess.A follow-up CT scan after four weeks of antibiotic treatment showed a decrease in the liver lesion size.However,high fever recurred,and C-reactive protein increased to 14 mg/l.Aspiration of the liver lesion was performed,but no bacteria were identified.Blood culture revealed the presence of fungi.The patient received an additional four weeks of antibiotics and antifungal agents before being discharged.Approximately 10 mo later,a CT scan showed an increase in the lesion size,and biopsy was performed.The biopsy revealed an organized abscess with focal carcinomatous changes,for which surgery was performed.Postoperative histopathological examination revealed HCC,clear-cell variant.The nontumor liver tissue showed cirrhosis and an organized abscess.CONClUSION Even if a liver abscess is suspected in a patient with cirrhosis,the possibility of HCC should be considered.

The increasing trend of the Southern Annular Mode （SAM） in recent decades has influenced climate change in the Southem Hemisphere （SH）.How the SAM will respond increased greenhouse gas concentrations in the future remains uncertain.Understanding the variability of the SAM in the past under a colder climate such as during the last Glacial Maximum （lGM） might provide some understanding of the response of the SAM under a future warmer climate.We analyzed the changes in the SAM during the lGM in comparison to pre-industrial （PI） simulations using five coupled ocean-atmosphere models （CCSM,FGOAlS,IPSl,MIROC,HadCM） from the second phase of the Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project （PMIP2）.In CCSM,MIROC,IPSl,and FGOAlS,the variability of the simulated SAM appears to be reduced in the lGM compared to the PI simulations,with a decrease in the standard deviation of the SAM index.Overall,four out of the five models suggest a weaker SAM amplitude in the lGM consistent with a weaker SH polar vortex and westerly winds found in some proxy records and model analyses.The weakening of the SAM in the lGM was associated with an increase in the vertical propagation of Rossby waves in southern high latitudes.

There has been substantial interest in designing and fabricating electrochemical non-enzyme sensors for glucose detection with a focus on the nanocomposites used between metal oxide and the two-dimensional material.In this work,Co_(3)O_(4)/reduced graphene oxide(rGO)nanocomposite was obtained and used as a modified electrochemical electrode for the detection of trace glucose.According to the results,the electrocatalytic performances of Co_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles for the oxidation of glucose were substantially enhanced with the addition of a small amount of r GO.Specifically,the Co_(3)O_(4)/r GO modified electrode exhibited a sensitivity of 82μA·mmol^(-1)·cm^(-2),a detection limit of 50μmol·l^(-1)(signal noise ratio(S/N)=3),and a fast response time of about 1 s under optimal conditions.The enhanced performances of the Co_(3)O_(4)/r GO modified electrode are attributable to the high absorption oxygen(O_(Ads))and synergistic effect between Co_(3)O_(4)and r GO.The results indicate that Co_(3)O_(4)/r GO nanocomposite is a promising candidate for being used as the active material in real-world electrochemical biosensors.
