A 90nm Passive RFID Tag's Custom Baseband Processor for Subthreshold Operation Below 0.3V

In the design of passive Radio frequency(RF) tags’ baseband processor, subthreshold timing and wide-range-Process, voltage and temperature(PVT) variation problems are the bottlenecks to extend the tag’s working range. A sophisticated processor is presented based on the EPC and ISO protocol. Power-aware ideas are applied to the entire processor, including data link portions. Innovatively, a novel custom ratioed logic style is adopted in critical logic paths to fundamentally speed up the circuit operations at ultra-low-voltage. The proposed baseband processor was fabricated in 90 nm CMOS, another baseband processor design by regular standard-cell-based design flow was also fabricated for comparison. In measurement the proposed design indicates good robustness in wide-range supply and frequency variation and much more competent for subthreshold operation. It can operate at minimum 0.28 V supply with power consumption of129 n W.

Preparation of Polyester Polyol from Epoxidized Palm Olein

In this work, polyester polyols with high weight average molecular weight （Mw）（Mw= 10000-15000） were prepared from epoxidized palm olein （EPOo） and a series of dicarboxylic acids （C6-C12） at elevated temperature under non-catalyzed condition. The optimal reaction conditions were determined as 180 ℃ for 4 h. Longer carbon chain length of dicarboxylic acids was more reactive when reacted with EPOo. The physical appearance of the product was observed as liquid at room temperature. This palm oil-based polyester polyol is proposed as starting material for flexible polyurethane. For reaction monitoring purposes, FTIR was used while 1H NMR analysis was carried out to characterize the important functional groups of the products. The effects of reaction time and temperature on the Mw of the reaction mixture were also studied by GPC.

Automated pebble mosaic stylization of images

Digital mosaics have usually used regular tiles, simulating historical tessellated mosaics. In this paper, we present a method for synthesizing pebble mosaics, a historical mosaic style in which the tiles are rounded pebbles. We address both the tiling problem,of distributing pebbles over the image plane so as to approximate the input image content, and the problem of geometry, creating a smooth rounded shape for each pebble. We adopt simple linear iterative clustering(SLIC)to obtain elongated tiles conforming to image content,and smooth the resulting irregular shapes into shapes resembling pebble cross-sections. Then, we create an interior and exterior contour for each pebble and solve a Laplace equation over the region between them to obtain height-field geometry. The resulting pebble set approximates the input image while representing full geometry that can be rendered and textured for a highly detailed representation of a pebble mosaic.

Comparison of surgical outcome of trabeculectomy and phacotrabeculectomy in Chinese glaucoma patients

Our study retrospectively reviewed the surgical outcomes up to 3 mo of 38 consecutive Chinese glaucoma patients who underwent trabeculectomy（n=18） or phacotrabeculectomy（n=20）.Baseline age,visual acuity,and intraocular pressure were *** pressure from post-operative 1 d to 3 mo were similar between 2 *** success was achieved in 65% of phacotrabeculectomy,and 66.7% of trabeculectomy cases;while failure occurred in 16.7% of phacotrabeculectomy,and 10% of trabeculectomy cases at 3 *** group consistently showed better improvement in visual *** blebs occurred in 65% of phacotrabeculectomy and 83% of trabeculectomy eyes;and flat blebs in 35% of phacotrabeculectomy,but none after *** was more hypotony（5% vs 0） after *** conclude,phacotrabeculectomy and trabeculectomy demonstrated comparable intraocular pressure control up to 3 mo ***,phacotrabeculectomy patients had better visual acuity ***,more diffuse bleb and less hypotony were present following trabeculectomy.

Hierarchical model updating strategy of complex assembled structures with uncorrelated dynamic modes

In structural simulation and design,an accurate computational model directly determines the effectiveness of performance *** establish a high-fidelity dynamic model of a complex assembled structure,a Hierarchical Model Updating Strategy(HMUS)is developed for Finite Element(FE)model updating with regard to uncorrelated *** principle of HMUS is first elaborated by integrating hierarchical modeling concept,model updating technology with proper uncorrelated mode treatment,and parametric *** the developed strategy,the correct correlated mode pairs amongst the uncorrelated modes are identified by an error minimization *** proposed updating technique is validated by the dynamic FE model updating of a simple fixed–fixed *** proposed HMUS is then applied to the FE model updating of an aeroengine stator system(casings)to demonstrate its *** studies reveal that(A)parametric modeling technique is able to build an efficient equivalent model by simplifying complex structure in geometry while ensuring the consistency of mechanical characteristics;(B)the developed model updating technique efficiently processes the uncorrelated modes and precisely identifies correct Correlated Mode Pairs(CMPs)between FE model and experiment;(C)the proposed HMUS is accurate and efficient in the FE model updating of complex assembled structures such as aeroengine casings with large-scale model,complex geometry,high-nonlinearity and numerous parameters;(D)it is appropriate to update a complex structural FE model *** efforts of this study provide an efficient updating strategy for the dynamic model updating of complex assembled structures with experimental test data,which is promising to promote the precision and feasibility of simulation-based design optimization and performance evaluation of complex structures.

Towards optimal treatment of ductal carcinoma in situ

Ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS) is a non-obligate precursor of invasive breast cancer with a variable biological behavior which is difficult to accurately predict using the current clinico-pathological parameters. Randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that adjuvant radiotherapy(RT) reduces the risk of local recurrence after adequate local excision of DCIS. Tamoxifen may be considered as an adjuvant endocrine treatment in patients with high risk estrogen receptor positive disease. There is however a growing consensus that RT can be safely omitted in a subgroup of patients with favorable biological features in order to avoid overtreatment. The sentinel node biopsy is not routinely indicated but should be considered in women undergoing mastectomy for DCIS. The discovery of molecular signatures that accurately predict the biological behavior of this common malignancy will facilitate a personalized treatment approach in the future.

Prostate cancer:a presentation of climcopathologic prognosticators among Filipino and American men at radical prostatectomy

Lower incidence and mortality rates from prostate cancer(PCa)have been shown in Asian men in general compared to *** is the first study detailing the clinicopathologic features of resected prostate cancer in Filipino men living in the Philippines(PH)_This study investigated the supposed“lower risk”Filipino and“higher risk”American PCa patients from the PH and the United States of America(USA),*** examined 348(176 from PH,172 from USA)radical prostatectomy *** clinicopathologic features of both groups(age at time of diagnosis,preoperative prostate-specific antigen[pre-op PSA]level,Gleason score[GS],Grade groups[GG],margin involvement,extra prostatic extension[EPE],seminal vesicle invasion[SVI],and regional lymph node[RLN]metastasis)were *** of seven prognosticators examined were more strongly associated with Filipinos than with *** were older at diagnosis(PH:64.32±6.56 years vs USA:58.98±8.08 years)and had higher pre-op PSA levels(PH:21.39±46.40 ng ml^(-1) vs USA:7.63±9.19 ng ml^(-1)).Filipino men had more advanced grade,GG 2 with minor pattern 5(PH:6.2%vs USA:2.9%)and GG 5(PH:14.8%vs USA:3.5%).Likewise,other adverse pathological features in margin positivity(PH:52.3%vs USA:23.8%),focal EPE(PH:14.2% vs USA:2.3%),and SVI(PH:17.1%vs USA:5.8%)were more commonly observed in *** study reveals the prognostic disadvantage of Filipinos versus Americans and highlights an important difference of Filipinos from other studied Asian ethnicities that have repeatedly been shown to have lower-risk *** study,the first on Filipino PCa patients with RP,suggests the need to modify Western-based risk stratification when employed in other countries like the PH.
