This review describes woodchucks chronically infected with the woodchuck hepatitis virus(WHV)as an animal model for hepatocarcinogenesis and treatment of primary liver cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)induced by the hepatitis b virus(HbV).Since laboratory animal models susceptible to HbV infection are limited,woodchucks experimentally infected with WHV,a hepatitis virus closely related to HbV,are increasingly used to enhance our understanding of virus-host interactions,immune response,and liver disease progression.A correlation of severe liver pathogenesis with high-level viral replication and deficient antiviral immunity has been established,which are present during chronic infection after WHV inoculation of neonatal woodchucks for modeling vertical HbV transmission in *** in chronic carrier woodchucks develops 17 to 36 mo after neonatal WHV infection and involves liver tumors that are comparable in size,morphology,and molecular gene signature to those of HbV-infected ***,woodchucks with WHV-induced liver tumors have been used for the improvement of imaging and ablation techniques of human *** addition,drug efficacy studies in woodchucks with chronic WHV infection have revealed that prolonged treatment with nucleos(t)ide analogs,alone or in combination with other compounds,minimizes the risk of liver disease progression to *** recently,woodchucks have been utilized in the delineation of mechanisms involved in innate and adaptive immune responses against WHV during acute,self-limited and chronic *** interventions based on modulating the deficient host antiviral immunity have been explored in woodchucks for inducing functional cure in HbV-infected patients and for reducing or even delaying associated liver disease sequelae,including the onset of ***,woodchucks with chronic WHV infection constitute a well-characterized,fully immunocompetent animal model for HbV-induced liver cancer and for preclinical

A climate-induced extreme flow event such as flooding is one of the most devastating natural hazards,which can significantly damage human lives and *** study examined the effects of climate change on the high flow conditions in the Great Miami River Watershed in Ohio under two emission scenarios(RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5).Streamflow for the 21st century was simulated by utilizing a watershed model-SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool)and 10 different climate outputs from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5(CMIP5).The future streamflow was divided into three equal periods:2016-2043(early century),2044-2071(mid-century),and 2072-2099(late century)and independently analyzed to compare high flows of respective intervals with baseline periods(1988-2015).The analysis predicted that 7-day,10-year high-flow(7Q10)would increase by 38%under RCP 4.5 and 44%under RCP ***,the annual peak flows for study periods were predicted to increase by 26%under RCP 4.5 and 38%under RCP 8.5 from the base ***,the analysis demonstrated an erratic response for monthly peaks indicating that the peak flow would increase in summer months-May and July to ***,the result did not show any significant increase during the winter season,especially from November to *** analysis of the four major dams located in the watershed showed that the dam’s peak discharges increase in January,May,and *** though increasing peaks were projected in September for the 21st century,the monthly peaks from the watershed outlet were found to be lowest in September as compared to other *** frequency of future flooding compared to the historical record was found to be increasing in the mid-century under RCP 4.5 and the late century under RCP *** the future flood is projected to increase,this study finds the reasonable impact of climate change on flood regulating reservoirs/dams in monthly ***,daily high flows(90th percentile flow)would b

The levels of soluble, structural and total proteins, and the activities of AlAT and AAT decreased along with an increase in the levels of free amino acids and the activity of protease in the ctenidium, hepatopancreas and foot of the freshwater mussel L. marginalis after 1,2,3 and 4 d of exposure to a lethal concentration (115 mg.L-1) of nickel. but the activity of GDH and the level of urea decreased in the hepatopancreas and increased in the ctenidium and foot. A reverse trend was observed in the level of ammonia. In a sublethal concentration (23 mg.L-1), the levels of soluble, structural and total proteins and ammonia decreased in these three organs of the mussel after 1, 5, 10 and 15 d of exposures, with an increase in the *** free aminoacids, urea and in the activities of protease, Al AT, AAT and ODH. The extent of these changes differed in degree depending on exposure period in the lethal and sublethal concentrations. The results are discussed in order to arrive at the degree of metal stress on the overall nitrogen metabolism of the mussel according to the period of exposure to lethal and sublethal concentrations of nickel.

A simple, sensitive, and specific liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/ MS) method was developed for the quantification of desloratadine (DL) in human plasma using desloratadine-d5 (DLD5) as an internal standard (IS). Chromatographic separation was performed using an Xbridge C18 column (50 mm 4.6 mm, 5 mm) with an isocratic mobile phase composed of 10 mM ammonium formate: methanol (20:80, v/v), at a flow rate of 0.7 mL/min. DL and DLD5 were detected with proton adducts at m/z 311.2-259.2 and 316.2-264.3 in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) positive modes, respectively. Liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) method was used to extract the drug and the IS. The method was validated over a linear concentration range of 5.0–5000.0 pg/mL with a correlation coefficient of (r2)Z0.9994. This method demonstrated intra- and inter-day precision within 0.7–2.0% and 0.7–2.7%, and an accuracy within 101.4–102.4%, and 99.5–104.8%. DL was found to be stable throughout the freeze–thaw cycles, bench-top, and postoperative stability studies. This method was successfully applied in the analysis of plasma samples following oral administration of DL (5 mg) in 35 healthy Indian male human volunteers under fasting conditions.

Lignocellulosic substrates are a good carbon source and provide rich growth media for a variety of microorganisms which prodLuce industrially important enzymes. Cellulases are a group of hydrolytic enzymes such as filter paperase (FPase), carboxymethyl cellulase(CMCase) andβ-glucosidase-responsible for release of sugars in the bioconversion of the lignocellulosic biomass into a variety of value-added products. This study examined cellulase production by a newly isolated Aspergillus unguis on individual lignocellulosic substrates in solid state fermentation (SSF). The maximum peak production of enzymes varied from one substrate to another, however,based on the next best solid support and local availability of groundnut fodder supported maximum enzyme yields compared with other solid supports used in this *** fodder supported significant production of FPase (5.9 FPU/g of substrate), CMCase (1.1 U/g of substrate) andβ-glucosidase activity (6.5 U/g of substrate) in SSF. Considerable secretion of protein (27.0 mg/g of substrate) on groundnut fodder was recorded. Constant increment of protein content in groundnut fodder due to cultivation of A. unguis is an interesting observation and it has implications for the improvement of nutritive value of groundnut fodder for cattle.

AIM: To find out the effect of Cat's whiskers (Cleome gynandra L., Capparidaceae) flavonoid (CWF) for the scavenging of free radicals in some inflammatory cells. METHODS: Mouse erythrocyte's hemoglobin, peritoneal macrophage, and peripheral blood lymphocytes were oxidized either by some of toxic chemicals (nitrite, carbon tetrachloride) or by enzymatic stimulation (glu- coseoxidase) to produce oxidative damage to cells. The protective effect of the CWF was examined, and the biochemical mechanism of action was also investigated in terms of the scavenging of free radicals. RESULTS: CWF (1 20 μg mL 1 ) decreased glucoseoxidase and nitrite induce oxidative damage in a concentration dependent manner in an in vitro model and inhibited the lysis of RbC [(28.64 ± 13.03)% and (70.31 ± 1.80)%] when mice were treated with CWF (25 and 50 mg kg 1 ). To assess the antioxidant potential of CWF in the lymphocytes and macrophages in living animals, the effect of CWF was measured on the elevated level of superoxide anions production in the cells. CWF scavenged the superoxide anion (O 2 ) production and inhibited the O 2 induced destruction of protein and lipid biomolecules. CONCLUSION: The study has established that the CWF mediates its antioxidant activity in some chronic inflammatory cells via its free radical scavenging activity.

Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are synthesized by suitable modification of the standard synthetic procedure without use of inert atmosphere and at room temperature. The facile synthesis procedure can be easily scaled up and is of important from industrial point of view for the commercial large scale production of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by thermal, dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses.
