Comparative study of the results of compound tibial shaft fractures treated by Ilizarov ring fixators and limb reconstruction system fixators

Purpose： llizarov ring fixator and limb reconstruction system （LRS） fixators have been used in the management of complex tibial fractures with severe soft tissue injuries, compound tibial fractures, and infected tibial nonunion for which conventional internal fixation cannot be contemplated. Fracture union and distraction osteogenesis can be done simultaneously with these external fixators, allowing early weight bearing. Several previous studies have shown almost equal results of rail and ring fixators for the compound tibial shaft fractures. Thus we performed a prospective study to evaluate the union rate, functional outcome and amount of limb lengthening after the treatment of compound tibial shaft fractures with or without infected nonunion by ring or LRS fixators. Methods： This prospective study was done at Sarojini Naidu Medical College and Hospital, Agra, India and included 32 patients of compound tibial shaft fractures with or without infected nonunion. There were 26 males and 6 females and the average age was 40 years. Patients were randomly divided into two groups （n - 16 for each）： one underwent llizarov fixation and the other received LRS fixation. Cases were followed up for 3-24 months, 6 months on average from September 2012 to October 2014. Functional and radiological outcomes were assessed using the Association for the Study and Application of Methods of llizarov （ASAMI） criteria for both rail and ring fixators. Results： Union was achieved in all cases. Radiological outcome was found excellent in 68.75%, good in 18.75% and fair in 12.50% of cases treated by rail fixators whereas it was excellent in 56.25%, good in 18.75%, fair in 12.50% and poor in 12.50% of cases treated by ring fixators. Functional result was satis- factory in 75.00% of cases treated by rail fixator and 68.75% of cases treated by ring fixators whereas the corresponding rate of unsatisfactory was 25.00% vs. 31.25%. Ni based amorphous materials have great potential as hydrogen purification membranes. In the present work the melt spun(Ni0.6Nb0.4-yTay)100-xZrxwith y=0, 0.1 and x=20, 30 was studied. The result of X-ray diffraction spectra of the ribbons showed an amorphous nature of the alloys. Heating these ribbons below T < 400 °C, even in a hydrogen atmosphere（1-10 bar）, the amorphous structure was retained. The crystallization process was characterized by differential thermal analysis and the activation energy of such process was obtained. The hydrogen absorption properties of the samples in their amorphous state were studied by the volumetric method,and the results showed that the addition of Ta did not significantly influence the absorption properties, a clear change of the hydrogen solubility was observed with the variation of the Zr content. The values of the hydrogenation enthalpy changed from37 k J/mol for x=30 to9k J/mol for x=20. The analysis of the volumetric data provides the indications about the hydrogen occupation sites during hydrogenation, suggesting that at the beginning of the absorption process the deepest energy levels are occupied, while only shallower energy levels are available at higher hydrogen content, with the available interstitial sites forming a continuum of energy levels.

Mixed convection flow is one of the essential criteria of fluid flow and heat transfer. And its application has been increased due to modernization of society. So, to compete with the global world an analysis has been investigated numerically. In this study we have considered 2D double lid driven cavity with two-sided adiabatic walls. This problem is illustrated mathematically by a collection of governing equations and the developed model has been solved numerically by using Finite Difference Method (FDM). The goal of the present study is to analyze numerically the thermal behaviour and parameters effect on heat transfer inside the 2D chamber. Also this analysis has been observed for the case where the upper wall is moving at positive direction and lower wall is moving at negative direction with constant speed. Furthermore, we have tried to analyze the velocity and temperature profiles for a vast range of dimensionless parameters namely Reynolds number (Re), Richardson number (Ri)?and Prandtl number?(Pr)?and presented graphically. Moreover, it is found that these flow parameters have significant effects in controlling the flow behavior inside the cavity. A comparison has been done to validate our code and found a good agreement. Finally, average Nusselt number (Nu)?has been studied for the effects of these parameters and presented in tabular form.

In this paper, current differencing buffered amplifier (CDBA) based bistable multivibrators are introduced. Each presented circuit is constructed using single CDBA as the basic active building block and three resistors. Two applications namely an astable and a monostable multivibrator are also realized to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed bistable multivibrators. The presented circuits are simulated using PSPICE from Cadence Orcad16.2 to verify their functionality. Simulation results agree well with the theoretical analysis.

Pencycuron is a non-systemic protective fungicide for controlling sheath blight of rice. However, information on the fate of pencycuron in rice plant is lacking. The degradation of pencycuron in waterlogged tropic rice field was *** was applied at recommended field dose (187.5 g a.i./ha) and double recommended dose to cropped plots for three consecutive years. Pencycuron was rapidly degraded in rice plant at all doses of pencycuron application with first order half-lives of 1.57～2.77 d. The study revealed that pencycuron is safe from the human and environmental contamination point of view.

The Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake that hit the mainland Japan on 11 th March, 2011 had resulted a devastating Tsunami due to an active thrusting between the Pacific and the North American Plates. Static and kinematic offsets at the offshore epicentre of the Mw 9.0 event remain unanswered and being investigated along with their near and far field limiting distances from the epicentre. Accordingly, offset measurements from 60 continuously operating IGS and GEONET GNSS stations were radially classified from the epicentre and interpreted with analytical models to find their linear offset decay rates. Co-and post-seismic static positional anomaly offsets of sixty days show almost all near field stations had strong or appreciable eastward or south eastward static shifts. Near stations(1.5 m. Spatial models of projected N-S static and kinematic offsets show their asymmetrical distributions around the epicentre with maximum model offset of-1.84 m displaced towards south at-45 km north of the epicentre. The Tohoku-Oki earthquake produced a resultant kinematic offset of-10.2 m towards East at its offshore epicentre;while the estimated near field static offset is ~9.82 m. However, both estimates are bigger than double the resultant offset measured value(~4.3 m) in the Japanese mainland using GPS. The difference in the kinematic and static near field offsets highlight that the near surface had elastic or in-elastic kinematic strain dissipation as against the lithospheric level viscoelastic static response, which resulted rapid kinematic strain release(1.12 cm/km)within the limiting radius of ~220 km from the Tohoku-Oki epicentr

A series of sulpha/substituted derivatives of phenyl azo-1,2-diazole have been synthesized and tested as an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial activity in mature albino rats hind paw by taking Diclofenac sodium as standard. N1-(4-hydroxy benzoyl)-3-methyl-5-phenyl-4(N-4-chlorophenylazo)-1,2-diazole is synthesized by a two-step process. In the first step, synthesis of N1-4-chlorophenyl hydrazono-1-methyl-3-phenyl propane-1,3-dione by the reciprocal action of 1-methyl-5-phenylpropane-1,3-dione and diazonium salt solution of phenyl-chloride interacts with 4-hydroxybenzoic acid hydrazide to form the final compound. These diazoles, the heterocyclic compounds which contained electron withdrawing groups, were screened for analgesic activity by acetic acid induced writing method, and for anti-inflammatory activity carried on carrageenan-induced paw edema. The synthesized substituted Chlorophenylazo-1,2-diazole nucleus exhibited significant anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory activity, muscle relaxing and moderate activity in anti-proliferative studies.

Evolutional Characteristics of Debris Flow in the Siwalik Hills of Nepal

As a youngest Mountain of the world, Siwalik region of Nepal is facing several mass movements like landslide and debris flow in monsoon period every year. Debris flow is very common in the steep slope of weak and fragile sedimentary rocks. This paper used remote sensing data and GIS to evaluate evolutional characteristics of debris flow hazard in the Siwalik hill of Babai watershed based on the geological, topographical and hydrological factors. All together 101 debris flow polygons were made by using Google Earth and by field verification. Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was used to analyze debris flow distribution and topographical features. Lithostratigraphy was studied to evaluate geological characters and rainfall data was used to evaluate hydrological character. Average slope for debris flow evolution in Lower, Middle and Upper Siwalik is 34°, 50° and 30° respectively. The average 24 hours rainfall to occur debris flow is found 160.67 mm. The area and length of debris flow channel are significantly different in three geological formations. The temporal distribution of debris flow from 2001 to 2018 shows that the trend of debris flow generation is higher in Middle Siwalik rocks with slope greater than 30°. Three major sources of debris flows were evaluated namely slide induced debris flow, fall induced debris flow and erosion induced debris flow where the slide induced debris flow is predominant. This study can be better source to understand the general mechanism of debris flow generation to the policy makers for reducing the future impact of debris flow in the overall Siwalik zone of Nepal.
