Interleukin-15(IL-15)is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is required for the survival and activation of memory CD8^(+)T cells,natural killer(NK)cells,innate lymphoid cells,macrophages and dendritic ***-15 is implicated in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis,inflammatory bowel disease,psoriasis and autoimmune type 1 diabetes(T1D).IL-15 receptor(IL-15R)consists of a specificαchain,theβchain that is shared with IL-2R and the commonγ***-15 is unique in the manner in which it binds and signals through its receptor ***-15 that is complexed with IL-15Rαbinds to theβγreceptor complex present on the responding cell to mediate its biological effects through a process referred to as *** trans-presented IL-15 is essential to mediate the biological effects on T lymphocytes and NK *** we show that IL-15,but not IL-15Rα,is required for the development of spontaneous and virus-induced T1D,viral clearance and for antigen cross-presentation to CD8^(+)T *** findings provide insight into the complexities of IL-15 signalling in the initiation and maintenance of CD8^(+)T cell-mediated immune responses.

Interleukin-15 （IL-15） is essential for the survival of memory CD8^＋ and CD4^＋ T cell subsets, and natural killer and natural killer T cells. Here, we describe a hitherto unreported role of IL-15 in regulating homoeostasis of naive CD4^＋ T cells. Adoptive transfer of splenocytes from non-obese diabetic （NOD） mice results in increased homeostatic expansion of T cells in lymphopenic ***15^-/- mice when compared to *** recipients. The increased accumulation of CD4^＋ T cells is also observed in ***15^-/- mice, indicating that IL-15-dependent regulation also occurs in the absence of lymphopenia. *** mice lacking the I L- 15Ra chain, but not those lacking the common gamma chain, also show increased accumulation of CD4^＋ T cells. These findings indicate that the IL-15-mediated regulation occurs directly on CD4^＋ T cells and requires trans-presentation of IL-15. CD4^＋ T cells expanding in the absence of IL-15 signaling do not acquire the characteristics of classical regulatory T cells. Rather, CD4^＋ T cells expanding in the absence of IL-15 show impaired antigen-induced activation and IFN-7 production. Based on these findings, we propose that the IL-15-dependent regulation of the naive CD4^＋ T-cell compartment may represent an additional layer of control to thwart potentially autoreactive cells that escape central tolerance, while permitting the expansion of memory T cells.

This paper discusses the implementation of Load Frequency Control (LFC) in restructured power system using Hybrid Fuzzy controller. The formulation of LFC in open energy market is much more challenging;hence it needs an intelligent controller to adapt the changes imposed by the dynamics of restructured bilateral contracts. Fuzzy Logic Control deals well with uncertainty and indistinctness while Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a well-known optimization tool. Abovementioned techniques are combined and called as Hybrid Fuzzy to improve the dynamic performance of the system. Frequency control of restructured system has been achieved by automatic Membership Function (MF) tuned fuzzy logic controller. The parameters defining membership function has been tuned and updated from time to time using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The robustness of the proposed hybrid fuzzy controller has been compared with conventional fuzzy logic controller using performance measures like overshoot and settling time following a step load perturbation. The motivation for using membership function tuning using PSO is to show the behavior of the controller for a wide range of system parameters and load changes. Error based analysis with parametric uncertainties and load changes is tested on a two-area restructured power system.

Performance index based analysis is made to examine and highlight the effective application of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize the Proportional Integral gains for Load Frequency Control (LFC) in a restructured power system that operates under Bilateral based policy scheme. Various Integral Performance Criteria measures are taken as fitness function in PSO and are compared using overshoot, settling time and frequency and tie-line power deviation following a step load perturbation (SLP). The motivation for using different fitness technique in PSO is to show the behavior of the controller for a wide range of system parameters and load changes. Error based analysis with parametric uncertainties and load changes are tested on a two-area restructured power system. The results of the proposed PSO based controller show the better performance compared to the classical Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) tuned PI and Fuzzy Rule based PI controller.

Whenever a squirrel cage induction motor is started, notable electromechanical torque and current pulsations occur. The adverse effects of starting torque pulsations and high inrush current in induction motor are eliminated using digital power electronic soft starting schemes that guarantee higher degrees of compliance of the requirements of an ideal soft starter for the induction motor. Soft starters are cheap, simple, reliable and occupy less volume. In this paper, an experimental setup of soft starting technique with extinction angle AC voltage controller and a speed and stator current based closed loop scheme is demonstrated using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) by the way of MATLAB/SIMULINK based simulation. The ANN based soft starting scheme produces best results in terms of smooth starting torque and least inrush current. The results thus obtained were satisfactory and promising.

Physico-Chemical Analysis of Korapuzha River and Estuaries

Korapuzha is a short river of 40 km with a drainage area of 624 km^2, flowing from dense forest and empties into the Arabian sea. It is formed by the confluence of two streams Agalapuzha and Punnoorpuzha. In this study the samples were collected from Agalapuzha, Punnoorpuzha and Korappuzha, Korapuzha estuaries. The temperature and pH were monitored on the site and the remaining parameters were analyzed in the laboratory. The physical quality parameters such as color, odor, appearance and chemical quality parameters such as pH, alkalinity, chloride, nitrate, nitrite, sulphate, ammonia, dissolved oxygen, total solids, total hardness, and iron have been evaluated. Compare the physical and chemical parameters. The physico-chemical analysis shows that the samples have high level of salinity, sulphate, total solids and total hardness. The results show that the water is affected by the intrusion of sea water into the river by excess excavation of sands from river for the construction of buildings and other anthropogenic activities which leads to environmental destruction.
