Genotype×year interaction of pod and seed mass and stability of Pongamia pinnata families in a semi-arid region

Sixteen pongamia families were evaluated in a field experiment for eight consecutive years in dryland conditions to identify stable,high-yielding *** trial was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three *** family,consisting of nine trees per replication,was planted at a spacing of3 m x 3 *** stability was analyzed using(1)Eberhart and Russel’s regression coefficient(β_i)and deviation from regression(S_d^2),(2)Wrike’s ecovalence(W_i);(3)Shukla stability variance(σ_i^2);and(4)Piepho and Lotito’s stability index(L_i).Families were also analyzed for adaptability and stability using AMMI and GGE biplots graphical *** study revealed significant variances due to family and family x year interaction for pod and seed *** performed differently and ranked differently across *** performance of families was influenced by both genetic factor and environmental conditions in different *** families tested,TNMP20,Acc14,TNMP14 and Acc30 were high yielders for pods,and Acc14,Acc30,TNMP6,RAK19 and TNMP14 were high for seed *** to the Eberhart and Russell model,Acc30,TNMP14 and TNMP3 were stable across *** the graphical view of family x year interaction based on AMMI methods,TNMP3,TNMP4 and TNMP14 had greater stability with moderate seed yield,and Acc14 and Acc30 had moderate stability with high seed *** the other hand,GGE biplots revealed Acc14,Acc30 and TNMP14 as high yielders with moderate *** and GGE biplots were able to capture nonlinear parts of the family x year interaction that were not be captured by the Eberhart and Russel model while also identifying stable *** on different methodologies,Acc14,Acc30 and TNMP14 were identified as high yielding and stable families for promoting pongamia cultivation as a biofuel crop for semi-arid regions.

The most promising and most feasible application of solar-wind hybrid energy is in the area of space and service water heating. Since these heating processes require only moderate temperatures, they can be easily achieved by the use of low-cost flat-plate collectors and low cut-in wind turbines. As the heating of buildings and provision of hot water account for a very significant percent of the total energy consumption in Cleveland, the diversion of these energy demands to solar-wind hybrid energy would result in a substantial relief of our dependence on fossil fuels and other forms of energy resources.

A boundary layer analysis is presented for the natural convection past a horizontal plate in a porous medium saturated with a nano fluid. Numerical results for friction factor, surface heat transfer rate and mass transfer rate have been presented for parametric variations of the buoyancy ratio parameter Nr, Brownian motion parameter Nb, thermophoresis parameter Nt and Lewis number Le. The dependency of the friction factor, surface heat transfer rate (Nusselt number) and mass transfer rate on these parameters has been discussed.

The present paper investigates the transient mixed convective boundary layer flow of an incompressible non-Newtonian quiescent nanofluid adjacent to a vertical stretching surface. The effects of the Brownian motion and thermophoresis are included for the nanofluid. Using appropriate non-similarity transformations the non-dimensional, coupled and highly non-linear system of equations is solved numerically using the efficient Keller-box implicit finite difference method for the whole transient from t=0 (initial state) to (final steady-state flow). The box method is unconditionally stable. Numerical results for dimensionless velocity (f’), micro-rotation (g), temperature (θ), nanoparticle volume fraction (Φ) at final steady state flow, skin friction function (), Nusselt number function () and Sherwood number function () have been presented on various parameters inform of tables and graphs. The results indicate that as Nb and Nt increase, the Nusselt number decreases whereas Sherwood number increases at initial and early state time but decreases at the final steady state time. As the K increases, the friction factor decreases whereas surface mass transfer rate and the surface heat transfer rates slightly increase. The results reveal that there is a smooth transition of flow from unsteady state to the final steady state. A special case of our results is in good agreement with an earlier published work. The study has many practical applications such as extrusion of plastic sheets, paper production, glass blowing, metal spinning and drawing plastic films.

Schottky Barrier Parameters of Pd/Ti Contacts on N-Type InP Revealed from I-V-T And C-V-T Measurements

We report on the current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of the Pd/Ti/n-InP Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) in the temperature range 160-400 K in steps of 40 K. The barrier heights and ideality factors of Schottky contact are found in the range 0.35 eV (I-V), 0.73 eV (C-V) at 160 K and 0.63 eV (I-V), 0.61 eV (C-V) at 400 K, respectively. It is observed that the zero-bias barrier height decreases and ideality factor n increase with a decrease in temperature, this behaviour is attributed to barrier inhomogeneities by assuming Gaussian distribution at the interface. The calculated value of series resistance (Rs) from the forward I-V characteristics is decreased with an increase in temperature. The homogeneous barrier height value of approximately 0.71 eV for the Pd/Ti Schottky diode has been obtained from the linear relationship between the temperature-dependent experimentally effective barrier heights and ideality factors. The zero-bias barrier height ( ) versus 1/2kT plot has been drawn to obtain evidence of a Gaussian distribution of the barrier heights and values of = 0.80 eV and = 114 mV for the mean barrier height and standard deviation have been obtained from the plot, respectively. The modified Richardson ln(I0/T2)- ( ) versus 1000/T plot has a good linearity over the investigated temperature range and gives the mean barrier height ( ) and Richardson constant (A*) values as 0.796 eV and 6.16 Acm-2K-2 respectively. The discrepancy between Schottky barrier heights obtained from I-V and C-V measurements is also interpreted.

Three components coupling of alkyl bromide, sodium azide and alkyne has been achieved using a catalytic amount of copper-exchanged phosphotungstic acid （Cu-TPA） in the presence of triethyl amine in DMF to afford substituted triazoles in good yields with high selectivity. Interestingly, the coupling of alkyl azide with alkyne pro- ceeds readily at room temperature to furnish 1,2,3-triazoles in excellent yields. The catalyst can be recovered and reused for three to four subsequent runs with a minimal decrease of activity. The use of copper modified heter- opolyacids makes this procedure simple, convenient and environmentally friendly.

The discovery of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) unraveled a mystery in stem cell research, after identification of four re-programming factors for generating pluripotent stem cells without the need of embryos. This breakthrough in generating iPSCs from somatic cells has overcome the ethical issues and immune rejection involved in the use of human embryonic stem cells. Hence, iPSCs form a great potential source for developing disease models, drug toxicity screening and cell-based therapies. These cells have the potential to differentiate into desired cell types, including hepatocytes, under in vitro as well as under in vivo conditions given the proper microenvironment. iPSC-derived hepatocytes could be useful as an unlimited source, which can be utilized in disease modeling, drug toxicity testing and producing autologous cell therapies that would avoid immune rejection and enable correction of gene defects prior to cell transplantation. In this review, we discuss the induction methods, role of reprogramming factors, and characterization of iPSCs, along with hepatocyte differentiation from iPSCs and potential applications. Further, we discuss the location and detection of liver stem cells and their role in liver regeneration. Although tumor formation and genetic mutations are a cause of concern, iPSCs still form a promising source for clinical applications.

Juvenile hormone(JH) and 20-hydroxyecdysone(20 E) coordinately regulate development and metamorphosis in insects. Two JH intracellular receptors, methoprene-tolerant(Met) and germ-cell expressed(Gce), have been identified in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. To investigate JH membrane signaling pathway without the interference from JH intracellular signaling, we characterized phosphoproteome profiles of the Met gce double mutant in the absence or presence of JH in both chronic and acute *** through a potential receptor tyrosine kinase and phospholipase C pathway, JH membrane signaling activated protein kinase C(PKC) which phosphorylated ultraspiracle(USP) at Ser35, the PKC phosphorylation site required for the maximal action of 20 E through its nuclear receptor complex Ec RUSP. The usp;mutant, in which Ser was replaced with Ala at position 35 by genome editing, showed decreased expression of Halloween genes that are responsible for ecdysone biosynthesis and thus attenuated 20 E signaling that delayed developmental timing. The usp;mutant also showed lower Yorkie activity that reduced body size. Altogether, JH membrane signaling phosphorylates USP at Ser35 and thus potentiates 20 E action that regulates the normal fly development. This study helps better understand the complex JH signaling network.

Holmes Heart and HIV: A Rare Combination of Two “H”s in a 23-Year-Old Widow

A 23-year-old, lean, scoliotic female presented to our hospital with a history of shortness of breath and cyanosis on exertion. Her 2D echocardiography revealed single left ventricle with both atrio-ventricular valves opening in it. She had normally related great arteries, with severe pulmonary artery hypertension, without pulmonary stenosis. Her blood tests indicated that she was reactive to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1). The patients died within 2 months despite treatments with anti-retroviral therapy and decongestive therapy.
