The prognostic nutritional index on postoperative day one is associated with one-year mortality after burn surgery in elderly patients

Background:Burn injury in elderly patients can result in poor *** nutritional index(PNI)can predict the perioperative nutritional status and postoperative *** aim to evaluate the risk factors,including PNI,for one-year mortality after burn surgery in elderly ***:Burn patients aged≥65 years were retrospectively *** calculated using the following equation:10×serum albumin level(g/dL)+0.005×total lymphocyte count(per mm3).Cox regression,receiver operating characteristic curve and Kaplan–Meier survival analyses were performed to evaluate the risk factors for postoperative one-year ***:Postoperative one-year mortality occurred in 71(37.6%)of the 189 elderly burn *** factors for one-year mortality were PNI on postoperative day one(hazard ratio(HR)=0.872;95%CI=0.812–0.936;psurface area burned(HR=1.017;95%CI=1.003–1.032;p=0.015)and preoperative serum creatinine level(HR=1.386;95%CI=1.058–1.816;p=0.018).The area under the curve of PNI for predicting one-year mortality after burn surgery was 0.774(optimal cut-off value=25.5).Patients with PNI≤25.5 had a significantly lower one-year survival rate than those with PNI>25.5(32.1%vs 75.9%,psurvival rate was lower in patients with PNI≤25.5 than in those with PNI>*** findings indicate the importance of identifying elderly burn patients with low PNI,thereby reducing the mortality after burn surgery.

Rh has been widely studied as a catalyst for the promising hydrazine oxidation reaction that can replace oxygen evolution reactions for boosting hydrogen production from hydrazine-containing *** Rh being expensive,only a few studies have examined its electrocatalytic mass ***,surface-limited cation exchange and electrochemical activation processes are designed to remarkably enhance the mass activity of *** atoms were readily replaced at the Ni sites on the surface of NiOOH electrodes by cation exchange,and the resulting RhOOH compounds were activated by the electrochemical reduction *** cation exchange-derived Rh catalysts exhibited particle sizes not exceeding 2 nm without agglomeration,indicating a decrease in the number of inactive inner Rh ***,an improved mass activity of 30 A mg_(Rh)^(-1)was achieved at 0.4 V versus reversible hydrogen ***,the two-electrode system employing the same CE-derived Rh electrodes achieved overall hydrazine splitting over 36 h at a stable low *** proposed surface-limited CE process is an effective method for reducing inactive atoms of expensive noble metal catalysts.

Tissue regeneration requires structural holding and movement support using tissue-type-specific aids such as bone casts,skin bandages,and joint ***,an unmet need exists in aiding breast fat regeneration as the breast moves following continuous body motion by exposing the breast fat to dynamic ***,the concept of elastic structural holding is applied to develop a shape-fitting moldable membrane for breast fat regeneration(“adipoconductive”)after surgical defects are *** membrane has the following key characteristics:(a)It contains a panel of honeycomb structures,thereby efficiently handling motion stress through the entire membrane;(b)a strut is added into each honeycomb in a direction perpendicular to gravity,thereby suppressing the deformation and stress concentration upon lying and standing;and(c)thermo-responsive moldable elastomers are used to support structural holding by suppressing large deviations of movement that occur *** elastomer became moldable upon a temperature shift above T_(m).The structure can then be fixed as the temperature *** a result,the membrane promotes adipogenesis by activating mechanotransduction in a fat miniature model with pre-adipocyte spheroids under continuous shaking in vitro and in a subcutaneous implant placed on the motion-prone back areas of rodents in vivo.

The layeredδ-MnO_(2)(dMO)is an excellent cathode material for rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries owing to its large interlayer distance(~0.7 nm),high capacity,and low cost;however,such cathodes suffer from structural degradation during the long-term cycling process,leading to capacity *** this study,a Co-doped dMO composite with reduced graphene oxide(GC-dMO)is developed using a simple cost-effective hydrothermal *** degree of disorderness increases owing to the hetero-atom doping and graphene oxide *** is demonstrated that layered dMO and GC-dMO undergo a structural transition from K-birnessite to the Zn-buserite phase upon the first discharge,which enhances the intercalation of Zn^(2+)ions,H_(2)O molecules in the layered *** GC-dMO cathode exhibits an excellent capacity of 302 mAh g^(-1)at a current density of 100 mAg^(-1)after 100 cycles as compared with the dMO cathode(159 mAhg^(-1)).The excellent electrochemical performance of the GC-dMO cathode owing to Co-doping and graphene oxide sheets enhances the interlayer gap and disorderness,and maintains structural stability,which facilitates the easy reverse intercalation and de-intercalation of Zn^(2+)ions and H_(2)O ***,GC-dMO is a promising cathode material for large-scale aqueous ZIBs.

The present study examined the effects of Tremella fuciformis(TF) on the learning and memory function and the neural activity in rats with TMT-induced memory *** rats were administered saline or TF(TF 25,50,100mg/kg,p.o.) daily for 21 *** cognitive improving efficacy of TF on the amnesic rats, which was induced by TMT,was investigated by assessing the Morris water maze test and by performing acetylchoine transferase(ChAT) and cAMP responsive element binding protein(CREB) immunohistochemistry. In order to confirm the underlying mechanisms of the memory enhancing effects of TF,we assessed the neurite outgrowth of PC12 *** also administered 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose and performed a PET/CT scan of the frontal lobe. The rats with TMT injection showed impaired learning and memory of the tasks and treatment with TF produced a significant improvement of the escape latency to find the platform in the Morris water maze at the 2 day compared to that of the control group(after the 2 day,psults suggest that TF may be useful for improving the cognitive function via regulation of cholinergic marker enzyme activity and neural activity.

The polymeric gel electrolytes are attractive owing to their higher ionic conductivities than those of dry polymer electrolytes and lowered water activity for enlarged potential ***,the ionic conductivity and mechanical strength of the Na-ion conducting polymeric gel electrolytes are limited by below 20 mS cm−1 and 2.2 ***,we demonstrate Na-ion conducting and flexible polymeric hydrogel electrolytes of the chemically coupled poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride)-dextrin-N,N′-methylene-bisacrylamide film immersed in NaClO_(4) solution(ex-DDA-Dex+NaClO_(4))for flexible sodium-ion hybrid capacitors(f-NIHC).In particular,the anion exchange reaction and synergistic interaction of ex-DDA-Dex with the optimum ClO_(4)−enable to greatly improve the ionic conductivity up to 27.63 mS cm−1 at 25◦C and electrochemical stability window up to 2.6 V,whereas the double networking structure leads to achieve both the mechanical strength(7.48 MPa)and softness of hydrogel ***,the f-NIHCs with the ex-DDA-Dex+NaClO_(4) achieved high specific and high-rate capacities of 192.04 F g^(−1)at 500 mA g^(−1)and 116.06 F g^(−1)at 10000 mA g^(−1),respectively,delivering a large energy density of 120.03Wh kg^(−1)at 906Wkg^(−1)and long cyclability of 70%over 500 cycles as well as demonstrating functional operation under mechanical stresses.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the second most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide[1].Recently,HCC incidence and mortality rates have further increased due to changes in the global social environment and dietary habits[2].HCC is treated by surgical resection or combination chemotherapy,but the overall survival rate of HCC patients has not improved,and the recurrence rate is still high due to strong invasiveness and resistance to chemotherapy[3].
