Despite the enormous interest in inorganic/polymer composite solid-state electrolytes(CSEs)for solid-state batteries(SSBs),the underlying ion transport phenomena in CSEs have not yet been ***,we address this issue by formulating a mechanistic understanding of bi-percolating ion channels formation and ion conduction across inorganic-polymer electrolyte interfaces in CSEs.A model CSE is composed of argyrodite-type Li_6PS_5Cl(LPSCl)and gel polymer electrolyte(GPE,including Li~+-glyme complex as an ion-conducting medium).The percolation threshold of the LPSCl phase in the CSE strongly depends on the elasticity of the GPE ***,manipulating the solvation/desolvation behavior of the Li~+-glyme complex in the GPE facilitates ion conduction across the LPSCl-GPE *** resulting scalable CSE(area=8×6(cm×cm),thickness~40μm)can be assembled with a high-mass-loading LiNi_(0.7)Co_(0.15)Mn_(0.15)O_(2)cathode(areal-mass-loading=39 mg cm~(-2))and a graphite anode(negative(N)/positive(P)capacity ratio=1.1)in order to fabricate an SSB full cell with bi-cell *** this constrained cell condition,the SSB full cell exhibits high volumetric energy density(480 Wh L_(cell)~(-1))and stable cyclability at 25℃,far exceeding the values reported by previous CSE-based SSBs.

Highly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment containing various protumoral immune cells accelerates malignant transformation and treatment *** particular,tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs),as the predominant infiltrated immune cells in a tumor,play a pivotal role in regulating the immunosuppressive tumor *** a potential therapeutic strategy to counteract TAMs,here we explore an exosome-guided in situ direct reprogramming of tumor-supportive M2-polarized TAMs into tumor-attacking M1-type *** derived from M1-type macrophages(M1-Exo)promote a phenotypic switch from anti-inflammatory M2-like TAMs toward pro-inflammatory M1-type macrophages with high conversion *** M1 macrophages possessing protein-expression profiles similar to those of classically activated M1 macrophages display significantly increased phagocytic function and robust cross-presentation ability,potentiating antitumor immunity surrounding the ***,these M1-Exo also lead to the conversion of human patient-derived TAMs into M1-like macrophages that highly express MHC class II,offering the clinical potential of autologous and allogeneic exosome-guided direct TAM reprogramming for arming macrophages to join the fight against cancer.

Duplex nanoporous Cu was successfully fabricated by dealloying a dual-phase Mg-Cu precursor alloy consisting of intermetallic Mg2Cu and *** duplex nanoporous Cu with embedded nanoporous struts exhibited highly enhanced strength compared to the typical monolithic nanoporous Cu under both compressive and flexural test conditions at room temperature;the duplex np-Cu sample exhibited a 12 times higher compressive strength and a 40 times greater flexural strength than the monolithic np-Cu *** responsible for the strength enhancement in the duplex nanoporous Cu are discussed.

New magnifying endoscopic classification for superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

To assess the accuracy of a new magnifying endoscopy (ME) classification for predicting depth of invasion of superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SESCC). METHODSThis study included a total of 70 lesions in 69 patients with SESCC who underwent ME with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) before resection from August 2010 to July 2016. Accuracy of ME-NBI for predicting depth of invasion of SESCC was analyzed by using a new ME classification proposed by the Japan Esophageal Society (JES), and interobserver agreement was assessed. REsuLTSOverall accuracy of ME-NBI for estimating depth of invasion of SESCC was 78.6%. Sensitivity and specificity of type B1 for tumors limited to the epithelial layer (m1) or invading into the lamina propria (m2) were 71.4% and 100%, respectively. Sensitivity and specificity of type B2 for tumors invading into the muscularis mucosa (m3) or superficial submucosa (≤ 200 μm, sm1) were 94.4% and 73.1%, respectively, while those of type B3 for tumors invading into the deep submucosa (> 200 μm, sm2) were 75.0% and 97.8%, respectively. Interobserver agreement was excellent (κ = 0.86, 95%CI: 0.76-0.95). CONCLUSIONThe recently developed JES ME classification is useful for predicting depth of invasion of SESCC, with reliable interobserver agreement.

Anti-quorum sensing and anti-biofilm formation activities of plant extracts from South Korea

Objective: To investigate anti-quorum sensing(anti-QS) and anti-biofilm formation(antiBF) activities of the ethanol extracts of 388 plants. Methods: The anti-QS activity of the plant extracts was evaluated by disc-diffusion assays using the bio-reporter strain, Chromobacterium violaceum CV017. Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, Yersinia enterocolitica ATCC 9610, and Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58, which possess QS systems, were used to evaluate the antiBF activity of the plant extracts. Results: Among 388 plant extracts, the Cornus controversa(C. controversa) and Cynanchum wilfordii extracts exhibited the strongest anti-QS activity. The C. controversa extract exhibited anti-BF activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Yersinia enterocolitica and Agrobacterium tumefaciens, whereas the Cynanchum wilfordii extract exhibited no anti-BF activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In addition, the C. controversa extract suppressed soft rot of cabbage. Conclusions: The C. controversa extract inhibits bacterial QS and BF, and is capable of controlling soft rot. Therefore, this extract has potential for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections and for the development of alternatives to antibiotics.

Fucoidan is a traditional Chinese medicine suggested to possess anti-tumor *** this study the anti-metastatic effects of fucoidan were investigated in vitro in human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells(Huh-7 and SNU-761) under normoxic and hypoxic conditions and in vivo using a distant liver metastasis model involving injection of MH134 cells into spleen via the portal *** ability to protect hepatocytes against bile acid(BA)-induced apoptosis was investigated in primary *** was found to suppress the invasion of HCC cells through up-regulation of p42/44 MAPKdependent NDRG-1/CAP43 and partly,under normoxic conditions,through up-regulation of p42/44MAPK-dependent VMP-1 *** also significantly decreased liver metastasis in *** regards its hepatoprotective effect,fucoidan decreased BA-induced hepatocyte apoptosis as shown by the attenuation of caspase-8,and-7 cleavages and suppression of the mobilization of caspase-8 and Fas associated death domain(FADD) into the death-inducing signaling *** summary,fucoidandisplays inhibitory effects on proliferation of HCC cells and protective effects on *** results suggest fucoidan is a potent suppressor of tumor invasion with hepatoprotective effects.

Real time sensing of crop yield is critical for a successful implementation of precision *** monitoring system is an optional component of a 55 kW multi-purpose combine harvester,developed in Korea,for both domestic and global markets,especially Asian countries where field sizes are relatively *** aim of the present study was to fabricate and evaluate the performance of a grain flow sensor suitable to the mid-sized full-feed type combine for rice,soybean,and ***,commercially available non-contact type sensing modules(optical,ultrasonic,laser,and microwave modules)were chosen for alternative candidates,to be further tested in a laboratory *** the laboratory tests,the ultrasonic module was selected as a potential approach and the performance was improved by increasing the number of modules and their ***,the improved grain flow sensor was evaluated during field harvesting *** tests with the improved grain flow sensor showed a good potential for rice(R^(2)=0.85,RMSE=126.14 g/s),soybean(R^(2)=0.78,RMSE=43.87 g/s),and barley(R^(2)=0.83,RMSE=37.39 g/s).Further research would be necessary for improvement and commercialization,through various signal processing and field tests under different field and crop conditions.

Timing of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy does not influence short-term outcomes in patients with acute variceal bleeding

AIM To examine the association between the timing of endo-scopy and the short-term outcomes of acute variceal bleeding in cirrhotic *** This retrospective study included 274 consecutive patients admitted with acute esophageal variceal bleeding of two tertiary hospitals in Korea. We adjusted confounding factors using the Cox proportional hazards model and the inverse probability weighting （IPW） method. The primary outcome was the mortality of patients within 6 *** A total of 173 patients received urgent endoscopy （ i.e. , ≤ 12 h after admission）, and 101 patients received non-urgent endoscopy （〉 12 h after admission）. The 6-wk mortality rate was 22.5% in the urgent endoscopy group and 29.7% in the non-urgent endoscopy group, and there was no significant difference between the two groups before （P = 0.266） and after IPW （P = 0.639）. The length of hospital stay was statistically different between the urgent group and non-urgent group （P = 0.033）; however, there was no significant difference in the in-hospital mortality rate between the two groups （8.1%vs 7.9%, P = 0.960）. In multivariate analyses, timing of endoscopy was not associated with 6-wk mortality （hazard ratio, 1.297; 95% confdence interval, 0.806-2.089; P = 0.284）.CONCLUSION In cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding, the timing of endoscopy may be independent of short-term mortality.

AIM:To compare the clinical results of femtosecond(FS)laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)in high myopic patients and low myopic ***:This study included 212 myopic eyes undergoing LASIK using a VisuMax 500kHz FS *** treated eyes were assigned to one of two groups according to preoperative manifest spherical refraction:low myopia group(A,>-4.0 D)and high myopia group(B,sual acuity(UDVA,CDVA),refractive errors,and higher-order aberrations(HOAs)were measured preoperatively and lwk,I,3 and 6mo ***:At 6mo of follow-up,92%and 76%had a UDVA of 20/20 or better in group A and B,respectively(P=0.037)and UDVA was significantly different between two groups(P=0.042).Six and seven percentage lost one line of CDVA in group A and B,respectively(P=0.572)and no eyes in both groups lost more than two *** group had 87%and 76%of treated eyes within±0.5 D of the intended correction(P=0.186),and 13%and 43%with a change of>0.50 D in spherical equivalent from Iwk to 6mo postoperatively(P=0.005).In terms of postoperative astigmatism,each group had 89.1%and 76.6%within±0.50 D,respectively and there was significant difference(P=0.006).Group A tends to induce smaller HOAs than group ***:FS LASIK is effective and safe for correcting high myopia as well as low ***,high myopic eyes showed more postoperative astigmatism and HOAs which affect visual acuity.

Abstinence from prolonged psychostimulant use prompts stimulant withdrawal *** adaptations within the dorsal striatum have been considered the main hallmark of stimulant abstinence. Here we explored striatal miRNA-target interaction and its impact on circulating miRNA marker as well as behavioral dysfunctions in methamphetamine(MA) abstinence. We conducted miRNA sequencing and profiling in the nonhuman primate model of MA abstinence, followed by miRNA qPCR,LC-MS/MS proteomics, immunoassays, and behavior tests in mice. In nonhuman primates, MA abstinence triggered a lasting upregulation of miR-137 in the dorsal striatum but a simultaneous downregulation of circulating miR-137. In mice, aberrant increase in striatal miR-137-dependent inhibition of SYNCRIP essentially mediated the MA abstinence-induced reduction of circulating miR-137. Pathway modeling through experimental deduction illustrated that the MA abstinence-mediated downregulation of circulating miR-137 was caused by reduction of SYNCRIP-dependent miRNA sorting into the exosomes in the dorsal striatum. Furthermore, diminished SYNCRIP in the dorsal striatum was necessary for MA abstinence-induced behavioral bias towards egocentric spatial learning. Taken together, our data revealed circulating miR-137 as a potential blood-based marker that could reflect MA abstinence-dependent changes in striatal miR-137/SYNCRIP axis, and striatal SYNCRIP as a potential therapeutic target for striatum-associated cognitive dysfunction by MA withdrawal syndrome.
