Toward resilient cloud warehousing via a blockchain-enabled auction approach

Cloud warehousing service (CWS) has emerged as a promising third-party logistics service paradigm driven by the widespread use of e-commerce. The current CWS billing method is typically based on a fixed rate in a coarse-grained manner. This method cannot reflect the true service value under the fluctuating e-commerce logistics demand and is not conducive to CWS resilience management. Accordingly, a floating mechanism can be considered to introduce more flexible billing. A CWS provider lacks sufficient credibility to implement floating mechanisms because it has vested interests in terms of fictitious demand. To address this concern, this report proposes a blockchain-enabled floating billing management system as an overall solution for CWS providers to enhance the security, credibility, and transparency of CWS. A one-sided Vickrey–Clarke–Groves (O-VCG) auction mechanism model is designed as the underlying floating billing mechanism to reflect the real-time market value of fine-grained CWS resources. A blockchain-based floating billing prototype system is built as an experimental environment. Our results show that the O-VCG mechanism can effectively reflect the real-time market value of CWSs and increase the revenue of CWS providers. When the supply of CWS providers remains unchanged, allocation efficiency increases when demand increases. By analyzing the performance of the O-VCG auction and comparing it with that of the fixed-rate billing model, the proposed mechanism has more advantages. Moreover, our work provides novel managerial insights for CWS market stakeholders in terms of practical applications.

How do digital technologies improve supply chain resilience in the COVID-19 pandemic?Evidence from Chinese manufacturing firms

Digital technologies (DTs) can assist businesses in coping with supply chain (SC) disruptions caused by unpredictability, such as pandemics. However, the current knowledge of the relationship between DTs and supply chain resilience (SCR) is insufficient. This study draws on information processing theory to develop a serial mediation model to address this deficiency. We analyze a sample set consisting of 264 Chinese manufacturers. The empirical results reveal that digital supply chain platforms (DSCPs), as well as supply chain traceability (SCT) and supply chain agility (SCA), fully mediate the favorable association between DTs and SCR. Specifically, the four significant indirect paths indicated that firms can improve SCR only if they use DTs to directly or indirectly improve SCT and SCA (through DSCPs). Our study contributes to the literature on resilience by examining the possible mechanism of mediation through which DTs influence SCR. The findings also offer essential insights for firms to modify their digital strategies and thrive in a turbulent environment.

Rapid analysis of metal ions and organic compounds in strong acidic solutions by nano-ESI mass spectrometry

Rapid analysis of metal ions and organic compounds in strong acidic solutions is of sustainable interest in multiple ***,complicated and time-consuming pretreatments are always required for MS analysis of the compounds in strong acidic ***,it will result in a weak signal and cause serious damage to the mass ***,a simple method inherited from nano-ESI MS was developed for rapid analysis of strong acidic ***(nL)strong acidic solution was first loaded in the nano-ESI emitter,followed by evaporation to remove the H+and leave the analytes on the wall of the nano-ESI *** evaporation process can be completed within 1 min because of the extremely tiny volume(≤1 nL)of the loaded ***,the dried analytes on the wall of the nano-ESI emitter were redissolved by loading a new solvent,followed by nano-ESI MS *** using this method,metal ions and organic compounds in the strong acidic solution can be detected with low sample consumption(1 nL),high speed(90%).Proof-of-concept applications of the present method have been successfully achieved for the analysis of gastric juice(pH of the sample=1),monitoring reaction catalyzed by strong acid(pH of the system=0),and micro-area analysis of ores(pH of the extraction solvent=0),showing great application potential in multiple fields.

Data-Driven Modeling of Partially Observed Biological Systems

We present a numerical approach for modeling unknown dynamical systems using partially observed data,with a focus on biological systems with(relatively)complex dynamical *** an extension of the recently developed deep neural network(DNN)learning methods,our approach is particularly suitable for practical situations when(i)measurement data are available for only a subset of the state variables,and(ii)the system parameters cannot be observed or measured at *** demonstrate that,with a properly designed DNN structure with memory terms,effective DNN models can be learned from such partially observed data containing hidden *** learned DNN model serves as an accurate predictive tool for system *** a few representative biological problems,we demonstrate that such DNN models can capture qualitative dynamical behavior changes in the system,such as bifurcations,even when the parameters controlling such behavior changes are completely unknown throughout not only the model learning process but also the system prediction *** learned DNN model effectively creates a“closed”model involving only the observables when such a closed-form model does not exist mathematically.

Identification of high oxygen-consuming substances in stormwater drainage systems illicitly connected with sewage system

The dissolved oxygen content in water is an important indicator for assessing the quality of the water environment,and maintaining a certain amount of dissolved oxygen is essential for the healthy development of the ecological *** a water body is anoxic,the activity of anaerobic microorganisms increases and organic matter is decomposed to produce a large number of blackening and odorizing substances,resulting in black and odorous water bodies,which is a very common and typical phenomenon in ***,there is still a relatively universal occurrence of illicitly connected stormwater and sewage pipes in the urban drainage pipe network in China,which makes oxygen-consuming substances be directly discharged into rivers through stormwater pipes and consume the dissolved oxygen in the water bodies,resulting in an oxygen deficiency of the *** induces seasonal or year-round black and stink phenomena in urban ***,identifying high oxygen-consuming substances,which lays the foundation for the subsequent removal of oxygen-consuming substances,is *** a series of comparisons of water quality indicators and analysis of organic characteristics,it was found that the oxygen consumption capacity of domestic sewage was higher than that of industrial wastewater in the selected area of this study,and the oxygen-consuming substances of domestic sewage were small molecular amino *** comparing 20 conventional free amino acids,it was found that seven of them consumed oxygen easily,and compared with chemical oxygen consumption,biological oxygen consumption was in a leading position.

High-performance grinding of ceramic matrix composites

Ceramic matrix composites(CMCs)are highly promising materials for the next generation of ***,machining of CMCs suffers from low efﬁciency and poor surfaceﬁnish,which presents an obstacle to their wider *** overcome these problems,this study investigates high-efﬁciency deep grinding of CMCs,focusing on the effects of grinding *** results show that both the sur-face roughness and the depth of subsurface damage(SSD)are insensitive to grinding *** material removal rate can be increased sixfold by increasing the grinding depth,while the surface roughness and SSD depth increase by only about 10%.Moreover,it is found that the behavior of material removal is strongly dependent on grinding *** the grinding depth is increased,ﬁbers are removed in smaller sizes,with theﬁber length in chips being reduced by about 34%.However,too large a grinding depth will result in blockage by chip powder,which leads to a dramatic increase in the ratio of tangential to normal grinding *** study demonstrates that increasing the depth of cut is an effective approach to improve the machining efﬁciency of CMCs,while maintaining a good surfaceﬁ*** provides the basis for the further development of high-performance grinding methods for CMCs,which should facilitate their wider application.

An asymmetric catalytic strategy in photocatalysis utilizing a chirality-induced approach through an organocatalytic/photoredox relay catalysis strategy is successfully achieved for the rapid construction of polycyclic compounds containing vicinal amino alcohols in a one-pot protocol. This methodology facilitates the efficient synthesis of diverse substituted polycyclic tetrahydroquinoline and benzofuran-derived vicinal amino alcohols, each containing five consecutive chiral centers, with high yields,excellent diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities(up to 95% yield, >20:1 dr and 98% ee), under mild reaction conditions driven by sequential bifunctional squaramide organocatalyst-catalyzed [4+2] annulation and photocatalyst-catalyzed ketyl radical addition cyclization reaction process. Furthermore, investigations into the stereoselectivity mechanism and high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS) experiments on free radical trapping have provided evidence for elucidating the detailed mechanism of chirality-induced processes and chiral intermediate conversions in this procedure.

Deepsea mining has been proposed since the 1960s to alleviate the lack of resources on *** hydraulic transport of collected ores from the seabed to the sea surface is considered the most promising method for industrial *** the present study,an indoor model test of the vertical hydraulic transport of particles was conducted.A noncontact optical method has been proposed to measure the local characteristics of the particles inside a vertical pipe,including the local concentration and particle *** hydraulic gradient of ore transport was evaluated with various particle size distributions,particle densities,feeding concentrations and mixture flow *** transport,the local concentration is larger than the feeding concentration,whereas the particle velocity is less than the mixture *** qualitative effects of the local concentration and local fluid velocity on the particle velocity and slip velocity were *** local fluid velocity contributes significantly to particle velocity and slip velocity,whereas the effect of the local concentration is marginal.A higher feeding concentration and mixture flow velocity result in an increased hydraulic *** effect of the particle size gradation is slight,whereas the particle density plays a crucial role in the transport.

Cationic starch microparticles with integrated antibacterial and hemostatic performance

It is urgently demanded to develop biomaterials with balanced hemostatic/antibacterial ability and facile preparation methods. In this work, cationic starch microparticles(MSQP), prepared by the facile grafting of microporous starch particles(MS) with tunable quaternized polyethyleneimine, were readily constructed as promising hemostatic materials for integrated antibacterial and hemostatic performance. The cationic grafts not only endowed MSQP with good antibacterial ability, but also benefited from biocompatible MS to achieve favorable biocompatibility. Moreover, in vitro results confirmed the superior hemostatic property of MSQP2(with the medium content of cationic grafts) among three MSQP and pristine MS. After investigating the bloodmaterial interactions of MSQP/MS, the procoagulant mechanism of MSQP2 was revealed that the optimal amount of cationic grafts achieves highly balanced plasma-protein adhesion, platelet adhesion and blood coagulation system. In vivo artery-injury model further demonstrated the superior hemostatic performance of MSQP2 for potential severe hemorrhage. This work sheds light on the design of cationic polymer-based biomaterials for balanced antibacterial and hemostatic functions.
