Electroacupuncture on PC6 Prevents Opioid-Induced Nausea and Vomiting after Laparoscopic surgery

Objective： To investigate the treatment time dependence of electroacupuncture （EA） on Neiguan （PC6） for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting （PONV）. Methods： One hundred and seventy-eight patients, who had received intravenous patient-controlled analgesia （PCA） with Fentanyl, were assigned randomly to three groups using random numbers： a pre-operative EA group （PrEA）, a post-operative EA group （PoEA）, and a non-acupuncture control group （NC）. An anesthetist evaluated the incidence and severity of nausea and vomiting for 48 h after surgery blindly. The main outcomes were severity and freguency of PONV, which were measured with a self-reported questionnaire and a confirmation from the anesthetist. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and Z-test. Results： The incidence of nausea and vomiting was significantly lower in the PrEA group than the NC group during 48 h after surgery （P〈0.01, P〈0.05）. The incidence of vomiting was also significantly lower in the PrEA group than the PoEA group （P〈0.05）. The PoEA subjects evidenced no significant differences compared with the NC subjects in terms of the incidence of nausea and vomiting （P〈0.05）. The severity of nausea was significantly lower in the PrEA group than in the NC and PoEA groups （P〈0.05）. Conclusions： EA on PC6 is effective in the prevention of PONV, and pre-operative acupuncture is more effective than post-operative acupuncture.

Single-cell and spatial omics:exploring hypothalamic heterogeneity

Elucidating the complex dynamic cellular organization in the hypothalamus is critical for understanding its role in coordinating fundamental body functions. Over the past decade, single-cell and spatial omics technologies have significantly evolved, overcoming initial technical challenges in capturing and analyzing individual cells. These high-throughput omics technologies now offer a remarkable opportunity to comprehend the complex spatiotemporal patterns of transcriptional diversity and cell-type characteristics across the entire hypothalamus. Current single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing methods comprehensively quantify gene expression by exploring distinct phenotypes across various subregions of the hypothalamus. However, single-cell/single-nucleus RNA sequencing requires isolating the cell/nuclei from the tissue, potentially resulting in the loss of spatial information concerning neuronal networks. Spatial transcriptomics methods, by bypassing the cell dissociation, can elucidate the intricate spatial organization of neural networks through their imaging and sequencing technologies. In this review, we highlight the applicative value of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in exploring the complex molecular-genetic diversity of hypothalamic cell types, driven by recent high-throughput achievements.

The study of magnetic monopoles continues to be a prominent and captivating topic in physics, particularly within the realm of physical materials. Recently, K. C. Tan, Hariom Jani, Michael Högen, and their collaborators (2023) reported groundbreaking discoveries, marking significant progress in this field. However, a sense of dissatisfaction persists among researchers regarding the current state of advancement. To address this, we propose a novel theoretical framework that explores magnetic monopoles through the lens of Higgs field portals. Our findings indicate that the spin of the magnetic monopole, s = 1, is intrinsically linked to the fundamental expression governing its behavior, with the two aspects being inseparable in practical terms. This theory offers a deeper understanding of the inherent nature of magnetic monopoles and provides a foundation for further exploration.

Numerical evaluation of buckling behavior in space structure considering geometrical parameters with joint rigidity

The buckling behavior of single layer space structure is very sensitive. The joint rigidity, moreover, is one of the main factors of stability which may determine the entire failure behavior. Thus, the reasonable stiffness of joint system, which is neither total pin assumption nor perfect fix condition, is very important to apply to the real single layer space one. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to investigate the buckling behavior of single layer space structure, using the development of the upgraded stiffness matrix for the joint rigidity. To derive tangential stiffness matrix, a displacement function was assumed using translational and rotational displacement at the node. The geometrical nonlinear analysis was simulated not only with perfect model but also with imperfect one. As a result, the one and two free nodal numerical models were investigated using derived stiffness matrix. It was figured out that the buckling load increases in proportion to joint rigidity with rise-span ratio. The stability of numerical model is very sensitive with the initial imperfection, responding of bifurcation in the structure.

High-entropy ceramics exhibit novel intrinsic properties. Hence, they have been explored for a wide range of applications ranging from thermal insulation and energy storage to advanced optical components. Recently, the semiconductor industry has faced a demand for higher-performance chips, necessitating higher aspect ratios in wafer fabrication and further miniaturization of linewidths. Therefore, novel materials with high plasma etching resistance and minimal contaminant generation are needed. The plasma-etching resistance displayed by high-entropy ceramics can be an innovative solution to this emerging challenge. In this study, we successfully fabricated single-phase high-entropy sesquioxide ceramics with high optical transparency, dense microstructure, and minimal residual pores. A structural analysis of the fabricated samples revealed a single-phase structure with excellent phase homogeneity. An evaluation of the plasma-etching resistance of high-entropy ceramics revealed for the first time a low etching rate of 8 nm/h compared with that of conventional plasma-resistant materials. These comprehensive characterizations of high-entropy ceramics indicate that they are promising candidates for significantly improving the production yield of semiconductors and for a wide range of potential applications, such as next-generation active optical ceramics.

Body-centered-cubic martensite and the role on room-temperature tensile properties in Si-added SiVCrMnFeCo high-entropy alloys

We present a new class of metastable high-entropy alloys(HEAs),triggering deformation-induced martensitic transformation(DIMT)from face-centered-cubic(FCC)to body-centered-cubic(BCC),i.e.,*** the ab-initio calculation based on 1 st order axial interaction model and combined with the Gibbs free energy calculation,the addition of Si is considered as a critical element which enables to reduce the intrinsic stacking fault energy(ISFE)in Si_xV_((9-x))Cr_(10)Mn_5 Fe_(46)Co_(30)(x=2,4,and 7 at.%)alloy *** ISFE decreases from-30.4 to-35.5 mJ/m^(2)as the Si content increases from 2 to 7 at.%,which well corresponds to the reduced phase stability of FCC against *** BCC-DIMT occurs in all the alloys via intermediate HCP martensite,and the HCP martensite provides nucleation sites of BCC ***,the transformation rate enhances as the Si content increases in an earlier deformation ra ***,the BCC-DIMT is also affected by the phase stability of FCC against BCC,and the stability is the highest at the Si content of 7 at.%.Thus,the 7Si alloy presents the moderate transformation rate in the later deformation *** to the well-controlled transformation rate and consequent strain-ha rdening rate,the 7Si alloy possesses the superior combination of strength and ductility beyond 1 GPa of tensile strength at room *** results suggest that the Si addition can be a favorable candidate in various metastable HEAs for the further property improvement.

Host-associated probiotics(HAPs)are bacteria originally isolated from rearing water or the host's gastrointestinal tract in order to enhance the host's growth and *** study investigated the HAP potential of Bacillus ***8313,isolated from wild red sea bream(Pagrus major),through characterization and feeding *** based on in vitro tests showed that PM8313 is safe,confirming its hemolytic,cytotoxic,and antibiotic *** addition,PM8313 showed advantages as a probiotic with high viability in the gastrointestinal model and a high cell adhesion ***-genome sequencing demonstrated that PM8313 has a 4,615,871 bp single circular chromosome and a guaninecytosine content of 45.25%.It also showed the absence of genes encoding virulence factors,such as cytotoxin,enterotoxin,hemolysin,sphingomyelinase,and *** the feeding trial,a supplemental diet of 1×10^(8)CFU/g PM8313 positively altered the weight gain,digestive enzyme activity,and intestinal microbiota composition of red sea *** of nonspecific immune parameters and immune-related gene expression,and a challenge test showed that PM8313 supplementation increases immunity and pathogenic bacteria *** findings suggest that PM8313 should be considered for application as a novel HAP to red sea bream aquaculture.
