Nitric oxide alleviates cadmium-impeded growth by limiting ROS accumulation in pea seedlings

Cadmium(Cd)causes oxidative stress,which leads to the oxidation of various biomolecules by the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)to facilitate programmed cell death(PCD).The antioxidant defense system fails to detoxify ROS when it is produced in *** oxide(NO),a gaseous free radical and a phytohormone,regulates various physiological processes of ***,this work was undertaken to study the effects of the application of exogenous sodium nitroprusside(SNP,a NO donor)on growth parameters,oxidative stress,accumulation of secondary metabolites,and activities of antioxidant enzymes under Cd ***(50μM)and severe(200μM)Cd stress were applied to hydroponically grown pea(Pisum sativum l.)plants with or without 50μM *** Cd stress had a substantial impact on the *** effectiveness of NO in reducing Cd-induced negative effects on plant height,fresh weight,dry weight,protein content,nitrite content,nitrate reductase(NR)activity,catalase activity,and peroxidase activity were *** development,protein content,nitrite content,nitrate reductase(NR)activity,antioxidant defense systems disruption,overproduction of reactive oxygen species,and oxidative damage were *** antioxidant defense system(catalase and peroxidase activities)was activated by NO,which resulted in lower lipid peroxidation and lower hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)levels in Cd-exposed *** treatment boosted endogenous NO levels and NR activity in Cd-stressed plants while also enhanced proline levels to preserve osmotic *** presence of total phenols and flavonoids increased after SNP treatment,indicating that SNP enhanced stress recovery and boosted plant development in Cd-stressed plants.

Machine learning guided automatic recognition of crystal boundaries in bainitic/martensitic alloy and relationship between boundary types and ductile-to-brittle transition behavior

Gradient boosting decision tree(GBDT)machine learning(Ml)method was adopted for the first time to automatically recognize and conduct quantitative statistical analysis of boundaries in bainitic microstructure using electron back-scatter diffraction(EBSD)*** spite of lack of large sets of EBSD data,we were successful in achieving the desired accuracy and accomplishing the objective of recognizing the *** with a low model accuracy ofler angles or axis-angle pair as characteristic features,the accuracy of the model was significantly enhanced to about 88%when the Euler angle was converted to overall misorientation angle(OMA)and specific misorientation angle(SMA)and considered as important *** this model,the recall score of prior austenite grain(PAG)boundary was~93%,high angle packet boundary(OMA>40°)was~97%,and block boundary was~96%.The derived outcomes of Ml were used to obtain insights into the ductile-to-brittle transition(DBTT)***,Ml modeling approach suggested that DBTT was not determined by the density of high angle grain boundaries,but significantly influenced by the density of PAG and packet *** study underscores that Ml has a great potential in detailed recognition of complex multi-hierarchical microstructure such as bainite and martensite and relates to material performance.

On the reality of broad iron l lines from the narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies 1H0707–495 and IRAS 13224–3809

We performed time resolved spectroscopy of 1H0707-495 and IRAS 13224-3809 using long XMM-Newton observations. These are strongly variable narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies and show broad features around 1 keV that have been interpreted as relativistically broad Fe lc~ lines. Such features are not clearly observed in other active galactic nuclei despite sometimes having high iron abundance required by the best fitted blurred reflection models. Given the importance of these lines, we explore whether the rapid variability of spectral parameters may introduce broad bumps/dips artificially in the time averaged spectrum, which may then be mistaken as broadened lines. We tested this hypothesis by performing time resolved spectroscopy using long （〉 100 ks） XMM-Newton observations and by dividing them into segments with typical exposures of a few ks. We extracted spectra from each such segment and modeled them using a two component phenomenological model consisting of a power law to represent the hard component and a black body to represent the soft emission. As expected, both the sources showed variations in the spectral parameters. Using these variation trends, we simulated model spectra for each segment and then co-added to get a combined simulated spectrum. In the simulated spectra, we found no broad features below 1 keV and in particular no deviation near 0.9 keV as seen in the real averaged spectra. This implies that the broad Fe lα line that is seen in the spectra of these sources is not an artifact of the variation of spectral components and, hence, provides evidence that the line is indeed genuine.

*** Advanced high-strength steels with good ductility are essen-tial to the manufacturing,structural safety,and light-weighting of load-bearing structures in many industries[1-3].Austenitic stain-less steel(ASS)exhibits high ductility due to the TRIP and/or TWIP effect that can alleviate stress concentration,prevent void nucle-ation,enhance work hardening,and postpone necking[4-6].The yield strength of conventional ASS is generally low(∼200-500 MPa),and their deformation resistance is insufficient for many load-bearing applications[6].Previous studies reported the in-creased yield strength in various austenitic steels through grain refinement,dislocation strengthening,precipitation strengthening,and heterogeneous hardening[7-14].A single strengthening mech-anism,however,is typically insufficient to obtain ultrahigh yield strength over 1 GPa in austenitic steel[12].

Fabrication of open-cellular(porous) titanium alloy implants: osseointegration, vascularization and preliminary human trials

In this study we describe the fabrication of a variety of open-cellular titanium alloy（Ti-6 Al-4 V） implants,both reticular mesh and foam structures, using electron beam melting（EBM）. These structures allow for the elimination of stress shielding by adjusting the porosity（or density） to produce an elastic modulus（or stiffness） to match that of both soft（trabecular） and hard（cortical） bone, as well as allowing for bone cell ingrowth, increased cell density, and all-matrix interactions; the latter involving the interplay between bone morphogenetic protein（BMP-2） and osteoblast functions. The early formation and characterization of elementary vascular structures in an aqueous hydrogel matrix are *** results for both animal（sheep） and human trials for a number of EBM-fabricated, and often patient-specific Tialloy implants are also presented and summarized. The results, while preliminary, support the concept and development of successful, porous, engineered ＂living＂ implants.

In vitro gene silencing of independent phosphoglycerate mutase (iPGM) in the filarial parasite Brugia malayi

Background:The phosphoglycerate mutase(PGM)enzyme catalyzes the interconversion of 2-and 3-phosphoglycerate in the glycolytic/gluconeogenic pathways that are present in the majority of cellular *** can be classified as cofactor-dependent PGM(dPGM)or cofactor-independent PGM(iPGM).Vertebrates,yeasts,and many bacteria have only dPGM,while higher plants,nematodes,archaea,and many other bacteria have only iPGM.A small number of bacteria,including Escherichia coli and certain archaea and protozoa,contain both *** silencing of ipgm in Caenorhabditis elegans(***)has demonstrated the importance of this enzyme in parasite viability and,therefore,its potential as an anthelmintic drug *** this study,the role of the Brugia malayi(***)ipgm in parasite viability,microfilaria release,embryogenesis,and in vivo development of infective larvae post-gene silencing was explored by applying ribonucleic acid(RNA)interference ***:The in vitro ipgm gene silencing by small interfering RNA(siRNA)leads to severe phenotypic deformities in the intrauterine developmental stages of female worms with a drastic reduction(~90%)in the motility of adult parasites and a significantly reduced(80%)release of microfilariae(mf)by female worms in *** half of the in vitro-treated infective l3 displayed sluggish *** in vivo survival and development of siRNA-treated infective larvae(l3)was investigated in the peritoneal cavity of jirds where a~45%reduction in adult worm establishment was ***:The findings clearly suggest that iPGM is essential for both larval and adult stages of *** parasite and that it plays a pivotal role in female worm *** results thus validate the Bm-iPGM as a putative anti-filarial drug target.

Effects of Nb and V on Microstructural Evolution,Precipitation Behavior and Tensile Properties in Hot-rolled Mo-bearing Steel

Microstructural evolution,precipitation behavior,and tensile properties of four experimental Mo-bearing steels were studied to elucidate the effects of Nb and V on microstructural *** results indicated that the microstructure of hot-rolled steels consisted of polygonal ferrite and degenerate pearlite,and the morphology remained same after holding at 600 ℃for *** smallest grain size was obtained in Nb-V-Mo containing steel,followed by Nb-Mo and V-Mo *** was less in the hot-rolled Mo-bearing *** maximum volume fraction of precipitates was obtained in Nb-V-Mo bearing steel,and the Nb-V-Mo complex carbonitrides were highly stable at 600℃.In the Mo-bearing steel,the yield ratio was lowest at room temperature but highest at 600℃,which was attributed to the precipitation of Mo carbides and drag effect of Mo solute on dislocation movement.

FOXO3a as a sensor of unilateral nerve injury in sensory neurons ipsilateral, contralateral and remote to injury
