A commonly accepted view of plant growth hormones is that their interaction with the cognate receptor protein is reversible, so that each hormone molecule can potentially interact multiple times with a receptor and so either amplify the hormone signal or maintain it over an extended period of time. The signal can be ＇cancelled＇ by degrading the hormone. Strigolactones present us with a potentially new paradigm. The receptor is a serine hydrolase-type protein which attacks the strigolactone resulting in covalent modi- fication of the receptor, while at the same time destroying the hormone. Strigolactone is apparently a one-use ＇dispos- able＇ hormone.

The challenge of meeting the increasing demand for worldwide rice production has driven a sustained quest for advances in rice breeding for yield. Two breakthroughs that led to quantum leaps in productivity last century were the introduction of semidwarf varieties and of hybrid rice. Subsequent gains in yield have been incremental. The next major leap in rice breeding is now upon us through the application of rational design to create defined ideotypes. The exploitation of wide-cross compatibility and intersubspecific heterosis,combined with rapid genome sequencing and the molecular identification of genes for major yield and quality traits have now unlocked the potential for rational design.

Dear Editor, Photorespiration reduces plant carbon assimilation by an estimated 25%-50% of net CO2 assimilation in typical C3 plants （Roussel and Igamberdiev, 2011）. It results from the oxygenase activity of Rubisco giving rise to phosphogly- colate. Subsequent photorespiratory metabolism involves decarboxylation of glycine in the mitochondrion and reduc- tion of hydroxypyruvate, usually assumed to occur in the peroxisome. Recent research in Arabidopsis has highlighted possible alternative sites of hydroxypyruvate reductase （HPR） activity （Figure 1A）. In addition to the accepted reduction by peroxisomal HPR1, Timm et al. （2008） identified cytosolic HPR2 and a putative chloroplast HPR3 （Timm et al., 2011）. For HPR2 or HPR3 to function in photorespiration, hydroxypyru- vate would first need to pass from the peroxisome into the cytosol. Another potential fate for hydroxypyruvate is its non-enzymic （NE） decarboxylation by reaction with hydrogen peroxide as previously suggested by experiments performed on isolated peroxisomes （Walton and Butt, 1981）.

Rice tillering is an important agronomic trait affecting grain ***,we identified a high-tillering mutant tillering20(t20),which could be restored to the wild type by treatment with the strigolactone(SL)analog rac-GR24.T20 encodes a chloroplast ζ-carotene isomerase(Z-ISO),which is involved in the biosynthesis of ca-rotenoids and their metabolites,SL and abscisic acid(ABA).The t20 mutant has reduced SL and ABA,raising the question of how SL and ABA biosynthesis is coordinated,and whether they have overlapping functions in *** discovered that rac-GR24 stimulated T20 expression and enhanced all-trans-p-carotene ***,rac-GR24 also stimulated expression of Oryza sativa 9-CIS-EPOXY-CAROTENOID DIOXYGENASE 1(OsNCED1)through induction of Oryza sativa HOmEOBOX12(0sHOX12),promoting ABA biosynthesis in shoot *** the other hand,ABA treatment significantly repressed SL biosynthesis and the ABA biosynthetic mutants displayed elevated SL *** treatment reduced the number of basal tillers in both t20 and wild-type ***,while ABA-deficient mu-tants aba1 and aba2 had the same number of basal tillers as wild type,they had more unproductive upper tillers at *** work demonstrates complex interactions in the biosynthesis of carotenoid,SLs and ABA,and reveals a role for ABA in the regulation of rice tillering.

Oxygen uptake plays a crucial role in the evaluation of endurance performance during exercise and is extensively utilized for metabolic assessment. This study records the oxygen uptake during the exercise phase (i.e., ascending or descending) of the stair exercise, utilizing an experimental dataset that includes ten participants and covers various exercise periods. Based on the designed experiment protocol, a non-parametric modeling method with kernel-based regularization is generally applied to estimate the oxygen uptake changes during the switching stairs exercise, which closely resembles daily life activities. The modeling results indicate the effectiveness of the non-parametric modeling approach when compared to fixed-order models in terms of accuracy, stability, and compatibility. The influence of exercise duration on estimated fitness reveals that the model of the phase-oxygen uptake system is not time-invariant related to respiratory metabolism regulation and muscle fatigue. Consequently, it allows us to study the humans’ conversion mechanism at different metabolic rates and facilitates the standardization and development of exercise prescriptions.

This study examined the improvement of microscopy segmentation intersection over union accuracy by transfer learning from a large dataset of microscopy images called *** neural network encoder architectures were trained on over 100,000 labeled microscopy images from 54 material *** pre-trained encoders were then embedded into multiple segmentation architectures including UNet and DeepLabV3+to evaluate segmentation performance on created benchmark microscopy *** to ImageNet pre-training,models pre-trained on microNet generalized better to out-of-distribution micrographs taken under different imaging and sample conditions and were more accurate with less training *** training with only a single Ni-superalloy image,pre-training on microNet produced a 72.2%reduction in relative intersection over union *** results suggest that transfer learning from large in-domain datasets generate models with learned feature representations that are more useful for downstream tasks and will likely improve any microscopy image analysis technique that can leverage pre-trained encoders.
