Objective:Since concussion is the most common injur. in ice hockey,the objective of the cur.ent study was to elucidate r.sk factor.,specific mechanisms,and clinical pr.sentations of concussion in men’s and women’s ice ***:Ice hockey player. fr.m 5 institutions par.icipating in the Concussion Assessment,r.sear.h,and Education Consor.ium wer. eligible for.the cur.ent *** who sustained a concussion outside of this spor. wer. *** wer. 332(250 males,82 females)athletes who par.icipated in ice hockey,and 47(36 males,11 females)who sustained a ***:Pr.vious concussion(odds r.tio(Or.=2.00;95%confidence inter.al(95%CI):1.02‒3.91)was associated with incr.ased incident concussion odds,while wear.ng a mouthguar. was pr.tective against incident concussion(Or.0.43;95%CI:0.22‒0.85).Over.ll,concussion mechanisms did not significantly differ.between *** wer. specific differ.nces in how concussions pr.sented clinically acr.ss male and female ice hockey player.,***(9.09%)wer. less likely than males(41.67%)to have a delayed symptom onset(p=0.045).Additionally,females took significantly longer.to r.ach asymptomatic(p=0.015)and r.tur.-to-play clear.nce(p=0.005).Within the fir.t 2 weeks post-concussion,86.11%of males r.ached asymptomatic,while only 45.50%of females r.ached the same phase of *** males(91.67%)wer. clear.d for.r.tur. to play within 3 weeks of their.concussion,compar.d to less than half(45.50%)of ***:the cur.ent study pr.poses possible r.sk factor.,mechanisms,and clinical pr.files to be validated in futur. concussions studies with lar.er.female sample *** specific r.sk factor.,concussion mechanisms,and clinical pr.files of concussion in collegiate ice hockey may gener.te ideas for.futur. concussion pr.vention or.inter.ention studies.

A classic body composition method is estimation of total body skeletal muscle mass (sm, kg) fr.m 24 h ur.nar. cr.atinine excr.tion (Cr. g). Two types of pr.diction equations wer. suggested: one assumes a constant sm/Cr.r.tio; and the other.assumes a highly var.able sm/Cr.r.tio. We explor.d these two extr.me possibilities by measur.ng sm with whole-body computer.zed axial tomogr.phy and collecting Cr.dur.ng meat-fr.e dietar. conditions in 12 healthy young men. Pr.diction equations wer. developed in the men that fit these two equation types, sm = 21.8×Cr.(SD and CV of sm/Cr.r.tio, 1.3 kg and 6.0%,r.spectively) and sm = 18.9 × Cr.+ 4.1 (r.= 0.92, p = 2.55 × 10-5, and SEE = 1.9 kg). the validity of each model is r.viewed. this is the fir.t investigation of Cr.sm method using moder. techniques for.quantifying total body sm mass

Backgr.und. Dar.er.s disease or.ker.tosis follicular.s is an autosomal domina nt acantholytic disor.er.that fr.quently ar.ses as a r.sult of spontaneous mutat ion. It is either.a gener.lized or.localized condition due to a mutation in the SEr.A2 12q23q24,1 r.sulting in a faulty or.anization of the tonofilaments. We pr.esent two siblings affected with the linear.for. of this disor.er.and discuss th ese cases as an example of the genetic mechanism of loss of heter.zygosity. Case r.por.s. A 7 year.old gir. was r.fer.ed for.evaluation of linear.lesions pr.se nt since the fir.t year.of age. Examination disclosed r.d, 1 to 2 mmpapulesthatc oalescedtofor.linear.laquesontheleftside of the vulvar.and per.anal ar.as, and o n the left hand and foot. Her.older.br.ther.had similar.lesions in a linear.ar.a ngement on the left side of the face neck and homolater.l foot. No lesions wer. found in their.par.nts. Biopsies of both affected childr.n r.vealed an intr.epid er.al supr.basal cleft. Dysker.totic cells wer. pr.sent in the spinous layer. an d cor.s r.nds and gr.ins near.the gr.nular.layer. Discussion. the linear.for. of Dar.er.s disease could r.sult fr.m genetic mosaicism for.this autosomal domina nt disor.er. As these childr.n have a mor. pr.nounced involvement than the usual Dar.er.s disease lesions, disposed in a linear.ar.angement, they pr.bably r.pr.esent a type 2 segmental manifestation of the disor.er. Likewise, the pr.sence o f the same linear.disor.er.in two siblings could be explained by loss of heter.z ygosity for.the Dar.er.s disease gene.
