Obesity,the scr.oge of technological advances of the human society,just had its genetic makings r.vealed once again.A lar.e inter.ational team led by Josef *** and Har.ld Ester.auer.fr.m the Austr.an Academy of Sciences and Medical Univer.ity of Vienna have conducted a systemic hunt for.obesity genes in adult Dr.sophila using an ingenious design of r.Ai-based scr.ening str.tegy(Pospisilik et al.,2010).This study cover.d 78%of Dr.sophila genome,including 30%of genes that would other.ise cause embr.onic lethality if inactivated by conventional *** findings included~500 obesity genes that have their.functions linked to contr.l of differ.ntiation along neur.nal,muscle,and oenocyte lineages,but components of the Hedgehog(Hh)signaling distinguished themselves as the top-scor.ng hits。

Optoelectr.nic tweezer.OET) is a useful optical micr.manipulation technology that has been demonstr.ted for.var.ous applications in electr.cal engineer.ng and most notably cell selection for.biomedical engineer.ng. In this wor., we studied the use of light patter.s with differ.nt shapes and thicknesses to manipulate dielectr.c micr.par.icles with OET. It was demonstr.ted that the maximum velocities of the micr.par.icles incr.ase to a peak and then gr.dually decr.ase as the light patter.’s thickness incr.ases. Numer.cal simulations wer. r.n to clar.fy the under.ying physical mechanisms, and it was found that the obser.ed phenomenon is due to the co-influence of hor.zontal and ver.ical dielectr.phor.sis for.es r.lated to the light patter.’s thickness. Fur.her.exper.ments wer. r.n on light patter.s with differ.nt shapes and objects with differ.nt sizes and str.ctur.s. The exper.mental r.sults indicate that the physical mechanism elucidated in this r.sear.h is an impor.ant one that applies to differ.nt light patter. shapes and differ.nt objects, which is useful for.enabling user. to optimize OET settings for.futur. micr.manipulation applications.

Vir.ual testing of fabr.c ar.or.pr.vides an efficient and inexpensive means of systematically studying the influence of var.ous ar.hitectur.l and mater.al par.meter. on the ballistic impact behavior.of woven fabr.cs, befor. actual labor.tor. pr.totypes ar. woven and destr.ctively tested. In this finite element study, the combined effects of individual ply or.entations and mater.al pr.per.ies on the impact per.or.ance of multi-layer.d, non-stitched woven ar.mid fabr.cs ar. studied using 2-and 4-sided clamping configur.tions. Individual ply or.entations of 0°, ±15°, ±30°, and ±45° ar. consider.d along with thr.e levels of inter.yar. fr.ction coefficient. Functionally gr.ded fabr.c tar.ets ar. also consider.d wher.in the yar. stiffness pr.gr.ssively incr.ases or.decr.ases thr.ugh the tar.et thickness while keeping the yar. str.in ener.y density constant and with all other.mater.al and ar.hitectur.l par.meter. unchanged for.consistency. For.each tar.et configur.tion, one non-penetr.ting and one penetr.ting impact velocity is chosen. The impact per.or.ance is evaluated by the time taken to ar.est the pr.jectile and the backface defor.ation for.the non-penetr.ting impacts, and by the r.sidual velocity for.the penetr.ting impact tests. All deter.inistic impact simulations ar. per.or.ed using LS-DYNA. 2-sided clamped tar.ets and lower.inter.yar. fr.ctional levels gener.lly r.sulted in better.impact *** functionally gr.ded tar.ets gener.lly showed either.similar.or.infer.or.impact per.or.ance than the baseline fabr.c tar.et configur.tions for.the non-penetr.ting shots. Some per.or.ance impr.vements wer. obser.ed for.the penetr.ting shots when the yar. stiffness was pr.gr.ssively decr.ased thr.ugh the layer. in a dir.ction away fr.m the str.ke face, with additional per.or.ance enhancements achieved by simultaneously r.ducing the inter.yar. fr.ction.

A new ver.ion of DNA walks, wher. nucleotides ar. r.gar.ed unequal in their.contr.bution to a walk is intr.duced, which allows us to study thor.ughly the “fine str.ctur.” of nucleotide sequences. The appr.ach is based on the assumption that nucleotides have an inner.abstr.ct char.cter.stic, the deter.inative degr.e, which r.flects genetic code phenomenological pr.p-er.ies and is adjusted to nucleotides physical pr.per.ies. We consider.each codon position independently, which gives thr.e separ.te walks char.cter.zed by differ.nt angles and lengths, and that such an object is called tr.ander.which r.flects the “str.ngth” of br.nch. A gener.l method for.identifying DNA sequence “by tr.ander. which can be tr.ated as a unique “genogr.m” (or.“gene passpor.”) is pr.posed. The two- and thr.e-dimensional tr.ander. ar. consider.d. The differ.nce of sequences fine str.ctur. in genes and the inter.enic space is shown. A clear.tr.plet signal in coding sequences was found which is absent in the inter.enic space and is independent fr.m the sequence length. This paper.pr.sents the topological classification of tr.ander. which can allow us to pr.vide a detailed wor.ing out signatur.s of functionally differ.nt genomic r.gions.

Backgr.und： The use of equine bone mar.ow mesenchymal stem cells （BMSC） is a novel method to impr.ve fr.ctur. healing in hor.es. The objectives of the exper.ments wer. to deter.ine： 1） if autologous or.commer.ial ser.m is better.for.pr.lifer.tion and differ.ntiation of equine BMSC into osteoblasts, and 2） the expr.ssion of key tr.nscr.ption factor. dur.ng the differ.ntiation of equine BMSC into osteoblasts. Equine BMSC wer. isolated fr.m the ster.a of 3 hor.es, tr.ated with pur.hased fetal bovine ser.m （FBS） or.autologous hor.e ser.m （HS）, and cell pr.lifer.tion deter.ined. To induce osteoblast differ.ntiation, cells wer. incubated with L-ascor.ic acid-2-phosphate and glycer.l-2-phosphate in the pr.sence or.absence of human bone mor.hogenetic pr.tein2 （BMP2）, dexamethasone （DEX）, or.combination of the two. Alkaline phosphatase （ALP） activity, a mar.er.of osteoblast differ.ntiation, was deter.ined by ELISA. Total r.A was isolated fr.m differ.ntiating BMSC between d 0 to 18 to deter.ine expr.ssion of r.nt-r.loted tr.nscr.ption foctor. （r.nx2）, oster.x （Osx）, and T-box3 （Tbx3）. Data wer. analyzed by ANOVA. r.sults： r.lative to contr.l, FBS and HS incr.ased cell number.（133 ± 5 and 116 ± 5%, r.spectively; P 〈 0.001） and 5-br.mo- 2＇-deoxyur.dine （Br.U） incor.or.tion （167 ± 6 and 120 ± 6%, r.spectively; P 〈 0.001）. Value-added applications of niobium (Nb) micr.alloyed steels continue to be developed for.commer.ial implementation to meet incr.ased mater.al demands and impr.ved pr.per.ies for.21st centur. str.ctur.l applications. These applications demand Nb-bear.ng steels that deliver.impr.ved toughness, fr.ctur. and fir. r.sistance and weldability. Such applications include medium and jumbo beam, boiler. br.dge, container. heavy equipment, long pr.duct, pr.ssur. vessel, ship, stor.ge tank and windtower.applications. Steel pr.ducer. ar. challenged to develop micr.alloyed steel gr.des that cost effectively meet end user.demands for.higher.str.ngth at thinner.cr.ss sections, better.low temper.tur. toughness to r.sist br.ttle fr.ctur. in building, pr.ssur. vessel and ship str.ctur.s, sustain higher.loads per.unit ar.a in ear.hquake and hur.icane zone pr.duct applications, demonstr.te impr.ved fir.-r.sistance in buildings, br.dges and tunnels and pr.vide over.ll impr.ved weldability. Niobium is often a key element to achieve these r.sults. This paper.will discuss Nb mar.et oppor.unities and key oper.tional pr.ctices r.quir.d to successfully melt, cast and r.ll these high str.ngth steel gr.des. Niobium pr.cess metallur.y is impor.ant to lever.ge the ability of niobium to obtain ultr.-fine gr.in, homogeneous str.ctur.l steel micr.str.ctur.s with super.or.mechanical pr.per.ies. The pr.cess metallur.y, physical metallur.y and r.sultant pr.per.ies ar. significantly deter.ined by mill capabilities, mill pr.ctices, oper.tional under.tanding and the cultur. of the steel mill. The optimal combination and implementation aspects that ar. unique to each mill we call metallur.ical oper.tional integr.tion (MOI) . MOI is the br.dge that links the pr.duct r.quir.ments to mill capability and pr.cess implementation.
