A predictive accident-duration based decision-making module for rerouting in environments with V2V communication

Communication for cooperative traffic management increases convenience and efficiency in driving. Intelligent vehicles can collect information about the driving environment, the driver situation and, more importantly, information on other vehicles. While giving this information to the driver can be useful, there is also the possibility of presenting the driver with too much information. Existing vehicles already have some mechanisms to take certain actions if the driver fails to act. Future vehicles will need more complex decision-making modules which receive the raw data from all available sources, process this data and inform the driver about existing or impending situations and suggest, or even take actions. In this work, we explore the use of a decision-making module for accident situations that processes information from VAnET communication and advises the driver based on the situation. Our decision-making algorithm is a simple and effective algorithm that can be implemented in each vehicle to assist the driver in situations where rerouting to avoid traffic congestion caused by an accident may be necessary. Our approach estimates accident duration and provides a rerouting for upcoming traffic. Our algorithm has been implemented and evalu- ated within an elegant traffic simulation system where both city and highway environments are considered, along with various proportions of V2V-equipped vehicles. Overall, the results indicate that using our decision-making module in vehicles shows great potential for improving performance of vehicular systems by reducing both travel and wait times and providing more accurate information on surrounding environments.

Optimization of operational strategies for rich gas enhanced oil recovery based on a pilot test in the Bakken tight oil reservoir

Horizontal well drilling and multistage hydraulic fracturing have been demonstrated as effective approaches for stimulating oil production in the Bakken tight oil ***,after multiple years of production,primary oil recovery in the Bakken is generally less than 10%of the estimated original oil in *** huff‘n’puff(HnP)has been tested in the Bakken Formation as an enhanced oil recovery(EOR)method;however,most field pilot test results showed no significant incremental oil *** of the factors affecting HnP EOR performance is premature gas breakthrough,which is one of the most critical issues observed in the field because of the presence of interwell ***,injected gas rapidly reaches adjacent production wells without contacting reservoir rock and increasing oil *** conformance control is therefore needed to avoid early gas breakthrough and improve EOR *** this study,a rich gas EOR pilot in the Bakken was carefully analyzed to collect the essential reservoir and operational data.A simulation model with 16 wells was then developed to reproduce the production history and predict the EOR performance with and without conformance *** operational strategies,including single-and multiple-well HnP,with different gas injection constraints were *** simulation results of single-well HnP without conformance control showed that a rich gas injection rate of at least 10 MMscfd was needed to yield meaningful incremental oil *** strategy of conformance control via water injection could significantly improve oil production in the HnP well,but injecting an excessive amount of water also leads to water breakthrough and loss of oil production in the offset *** analyzing the production performance of the wells individually,the arrangement of wells was optimized for multiple-well HnP *** multiwell results showed that rich gas EOR could improve oil production up to 7.4%by employing confor

The disability,mortality and costs due to ionizing radiation(IR)-induced osteoporotic bone fractures are sub-stantial and no effective therapy *** radiation increases cellular oxidative damage,causing an imbalance in bone turnover that is primarily driven via heightened activity of the bone-resorbing *** demonstrate that rats exposed to sublethal levels of IR develop fragile,osteoporotic *** reactive surface sites,cerium ions have the ability to easily undergo redox cycling:drastically adjusting their electronic con-figurations and versatile catalytic *** properties make cerium oxide nanomaterials *** show that an engineered artificial nanozyme composed of cerium oxide,and designed to possess a higher fraction of trivalent(Ce^(3+))surface sites,mitigates the IR-induced loss in bone area,bone architecture,and *** investigations also demonstrate that our nanozyme furnishes several mechanistic avenues of protection and selectively targets highly damaging reactive oxygen species,protecting the rats against IR-induced DnA damage,cellular senescence,and elevated osteoclastic activity in vitro and in ***,we reveal that our nanozyme is a previously unreported key regulator of osteoclast formation derived from macrophages while also directly targeting bone progenitor cells,favoring new bone formation despite its exposure to harmful levels of IR in *** findings open a new approach for the specific prevention of IR-induced bone loss using synthesis-mediated designer multifunctional nanomaterials.

Biodiversity studies of myxomycetes in Madagascar

The results of the first comprehensive study of myxomycetes from the island of Madagascar,a world biodiversity hotspot,are reported in this *** island is of continental origin,the fourth largest in the world,and has been geographically isolated for more than 160 million years,since its separation from *** isolation,size and topography of Madagascar have triggered the development of a great variety of different habitats and favoured multiple evolutionary pathways,resulting in many animals and plants that exist nowhere else on *** for the biodiversity survey of the central and southern parts of the island took place in May 2009,to coincide with the end of the rainy *** moist forest,sclerophyll forest and dry forest were selected for sampling in Ranomafana,Andringitra,Andohahela and L’Isalo national *** unique vegetation was sampled in the spiny dry forest and succulent scrub with plants from the genera Alluaudia,Euphorbia,Kalanchoe and *** survey produced 124 species from 22 different genera in more than 750 myxomycete *** this paper one species,Perichaena madagascariensis,is described as new to science,21 species are new records for Africa,and 106 are reported for the first time from *** unusual collections included Physarum lakhanpalii that appeared on Ravenala madagascariensis,Fuligo intermedia and Licea nannengae found on Adansonia grandidieri,Perichaena pulcherrima,Physarum dictyosporum,and *** on Euphorbia and Licea rufocuprea on *** scope,methods and results of this survey are included in this paper,and comments are made on the ecology,distribution and substrate association of the myxomycetes of these areas of ***,micrographs and SEM images of interesting species are *** results indicate that the island of Madagascar has a unique assemblage of species of myxomycetes,different from neighbouring islands and from similar but distant envi

The biodiversity of myxomycetes in central Chile

The results obtained from two expeditions to survey the biodiversity of myxomycetes in Central Chile are reported in this *** surveys were carried out as part of Global Biodiversity of Eumycetozoans project funded by the national Science Foundation(USA)and the Myxotropic project funded by the Spanish *** expeditions were made to the temperate zone of the central part of the country between 23°and 39°South latitudes,which is characterized by Mediterranean vegetation,as well as to the transition areas between the arid and semi-arid regions of northern Chile,and the humid,cold Valdivian and Andean-Patagonian forests of the far *** of the fifteen regions of the country,from Antofagasta to Araucanía,in selected areas where the native vegetation is well preserved,were included in these *** 600 collections were obtained,and a total of 110 species of myxomycetes representing 29 genera have been *** of these(Dianema succulenticola,Didymium chilense)are species new to science and are described in this paper,12 species(Collaria nigricapillitia,Comatricha alta,Cribraria oregana,Dianema depressum,Didymium eximium,***,Enerthenema melanospermum,Lepidoderma chailletii,Macbrideola ovoidea,Physarum clavisporum,*** and Trichia alpina)were previously unknown for either the neotropics or South America,and 49 additional species are new records for *** are provided on the morphology,distribution and ecology of selected species and light and SEM micrographs of the most significant species are *** evaluation of the biodiversity of myxomycetes in Chile,with special emphasis on the endemic plants that provided the substrates with which they were associated,and a comparative analysis of our results with those from other countries of South America is presented.

Although there is a growing interest in developing asymmetric 1,6-addition reactions of carbon nucleo-philes to Michael acceptors,the corresponding 1,6-addition of homoenolates remains an unsolved ***,the n-heterocyclic carbene(nHC)-catalyzed cycloadditions of homoenolate equivalent intermediates have achieved widespread ***,considerable limitations still exist for the linear reactions with electron-deficient alkenes,which are limited to 1,4-Michael *** report presents the first nHC-catalyzed asym-metric homoenolate addition of enals to 1,6-Michael *** strategy leads to the challenging nonspirocyclic 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles with two adjacent stereocenters,a quaternary and a trisubsti-tuted one,in good yields and high stereoselectivities with a wide variety of substrates.

AIM:To evaluate aspects of cognition impacted by individuals with and without normal tension ***:Fifty normal tension glaucoma(nTG)and 50 control patients≥50 y of age were recruited from the UCSF Department of *** data and glaucoma parameters were extracted from electronic medical records for both *** of executive function[Executive Abilities:Measures and Instruments for neurobehavioral Evaluation and Research(EXAMInER)]and learning and memory[California Verbal Learning Test–Second Edition(CVLT-II)]were administered to both nTG and ***,handedness,best-corrected visual acuity,maximum intraocular pressure,optic nerve cup-todisc ratio,visual field and optic nerve optical coherence tomography parameters,and a measure of general health(Charlson Comorbidity Index)were compared between nTG and controls as well as within nTG *** linear regression was used to compare group performances on the EXAMInER battery and CVLT-II while controlling for age,sex,and years of ***:nTG and controls were comparable with respect to age,sex,race,education,handedness,and the Charlson Comorbidity Index(P>0.05 for all).Performance on the EXAMInER composite score and the CVLT-II did not differ between nTG and controls(P>0.05 for both).COnCLUSIOn:This is the first prospective study in which the cognitive function of subject with nTG were evaluated using a comprehensive,computerized neurocognitive *** with nTG do not perform worse than unaffected controls on tests of executive function,learning,and memor *** do not suppor t the hypothesis that individuals with nTG are at higher risk for cognitive dysfunction and/or dementia.
