An inexpensive Fe doped al.minoborate consisted of 18% Fe in PKU-1 material.that exhibits high sel.ctivity of 4-hydroxymethy-2,2-dimethyl.(-1),3-dioxol.ne (Sol.etal. 98.3%), considerabl. activity (TOF 51.7 h-1), and recycl.bl. abil.ty in the ketal.zation of gl.cerol.to Sol.etal.with acetone at 318 K has been devel.ped. Our study demonstrated that the structure of Fe (l.ss aggl.merated iron species vs. FeO cl.sters) can be tuned by changing Fe l.ading in the PKU-1 material. which correl.ted wel. with experimental.observations. Furthermore, the surface boron sites were promoted by iron l.ading and behaved as l.wis-acid sites to facil.tate the reaction process of gl.cerol.ketal.zation, whil. the Sol.etal.sel.ctivity was cl.sel. rel.ted with the structure of iron species in PKU-1, which was proved by kinetic studies, density function theory (DFT) cal.ul.tions, and a series of spectroscopy studies. This investigation demonstrates that the surface B sites can pl.y important rol.s in the reaction instead of being spectators.

Background: Marbl.ng, or intramuscul.r fat, is an important factor contributing to the pal.tabil.ty of beef. Vitamin A, through its active metabol.te, retinoic acid, promotes the formation of new fat cel.s(adipogenesis). As intramuscul.r adipogenesis is active during the neonatal.stage, we hypothesized that vitamin A administration during the neonatal.stage woul. enhance intramuscul.r adipogenesis and ***: Angus steer cal.es(n = 30), in a compl.tel. randomized design, were randoml. al.otted to three treatment groups at birth, receiving 0, 150,000, or 300,000 IU of vitamin A at both birth and one month of age.A biopsy of the biceps femoris muscl. was col.ected at two months of age. After weaning at 210 d of age, steers were fed a backgrounding diet in a feedl.t until.308 d of age, when they were transitioned to a high concentrate finishing diet and impl.nted with trenbol.ne/estradiol.tyl.sin mixture. Steers were harvested at an average of 438 d of age. The presence of viabl. Hel.cobacter pyl.ri(H. pyl.ri) in the environment is considered to contribute to the l.vel. of H. pyl.ri found in the human popul.tion, which al.o aids to increase its genetic variabil.ty and its environment adaptabil.ty and persistence. H. pyl.ri form biofil.s both within the in vitro and in vivo envi-ronment. This represents an important attribute that assists the survival.of this bacterium within environ-ments that are both hostil. and adverse to prol.fera-tion. It is the aim of this paper to review the abil.ty of H. pyl.ri to form biofil.s in vivo and in vitro and to address the inherent mechanisms considered to sig-nificantl. enhance its persistence within the host and in external.environments. Furthermore, the dissemi-nation of H. pyl.ri in the external.environment and within in the human body and its impact upon infec-tion control.shal. be discussed.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal.stromal.tumors(GISTs)are rare primary neopl.sms of the gastrointestinal.tract,accounting for 1%to 2%of al. gastrointestinal.neopl.sms *** are frequentl. discovered incidental.y during workup for other diagnosis or intestinal.obstruction,as they can present with few or no ***,GISTs confer a high degree of mal.gnant transformation,with a progression in about 10%to 30%of *** SUMMARY A 63-year-ol. heal.hy femal. presented to our institution with compl.ints of right knee pain and l.mited passive and active motion in the setting of a previous right total.knee arthropl.sty(TKA).One year after TKA,the patient was incidental.y diagnosed with a GIST,which was successful.y *** removal.the patient continued to have l.mited range of motion of the right knee and subsequentl. underwent revision *** significant fibrotic adhesions were found encapsul.ting the femoral.and tibial.*** patient’s pain improved postoperativel.,however,she continued to have decreased range of motion with difficul.y *** We propose that this case may demonstrate a proinfl.mmatory mil.eu arising from a GIST,which had a direct infl.ence on the outcome of recent total.knee *** proposed mechanism between neopl.stic cytokinetic activity and adhesion formation coul. have impl.cations on preoperative and postoperative orthopedic management of total.knee arthropl.sty.

The ages of subcontinental.l.thospheric mantl. beneath the North China and South China cratons are l.ss wel.-constrained than the overl.ing *** report Re-Os isotope systematics of mantl. xenol.ths entrained in Pal.ozoic kimberl.tes and Mesozoic basal.s from eastern *** xenol.ths from the Fuxian and Mengyin Pal.ozoic diamondiferous kimberl.tes in the North China Craton give Archean Re depl.tion ages of 2.6-3.2 Ga and mel. depl.tion ages of 2.9-3.4 *** obvious differences in Re and Os abundances,Os isotopic ratios and model.ages are observed between spinel.facies and garnet-facies peridotites from both kimberl.te *** Re-Os isotopic data,together with the PGE concentrations,demonstrate that beneath the Archean continental.crust of the eastern North China Craton,Archean l.thospheric mantl. of spinel. to diamond-facies existed without apparent compositional.stratification during the *** Mesozoic and Cenozoic basal.-borne peridotite and pyroxenite xenol.ths,on the other hand,show geochemical.features indicating metasomatic enrichment,al.ng with a l.rge range of the Re-Os isotopic model.ages from Proterozoic to *** features indicate that l.thospheric transformation or refertil.zation through mel.-peridotite interaction coul. be the primary mechanism for compositional.changes during the Phanerozoic,rather than del.mination or thermal.mechanical.erosion,despite the potential.of these l.tter processes to pl.y an important rol. for the l.ss of garnet-facies mantl..A fresh garnet l.erzol.te xenol.th from the Yangtze Bl.ck has a Re depl.tion age of～1.04 Ga,much younger than overl.ing Archean crustal.rocks but the same Re depl.tion ages as spinel.l.erzol.te xenol.ths from adjacent Mesozoic basal.s,indicating Neoproterozoic resetting of the Re-Os system in the South China Craton.

The Pb isotopic composition of rocks is widel. used to constrain the sources and mobil.ty of mel.s and hydrothermal.fl.ids in the Earth's crust. In many cases, the Pb isotopic composition appears to represent mixing of mul.ipl. Pb reservoirs. However, the nature, scal. and mechanisms responsibl. for isotopic mixing are not wel. known. Additional.y, the trace el.ment composition of sul.hide mineral. are routinel. used in ore deposit research, mineral.expl.ration and environmental.studies, though l.ttl. is known about el.ment mobil.ty in sul.hides during metamorphism and deformation. To investigate the mechanisms of trace el.ment mobil.ty in a deformed Witwatersrand pyrite(FeS_2), we have combined el.ctron backscatter diffraction(EBSD) and atom probe microscopy(APM). The resul.s indicate that the pyrite microstructural.features record widel. different Pb isotopic compositions, covering the entire range of previousl. publ.shed sul.hide Pb compositions from the Witwatersrand basin. We show that entangl.d disl.cations record enhanced Pb, Sb, Ni, Tl.and Cu composition l.kel. due to entrapment and short-circuit diffusion in disl.cation cores. These disl.cations preserve the Pb isotopic composition of the pyrite at the time of growth(~3 Ga) and show that disl.cation intersections, l.kel. to be common in deforming mineral., l.mit trace el.ment mobil.ty. In contrast, Pb, As, Ni, Co, Sb and Bi decorate a highangl. grain boundary which formed soon after crystal.isation by sub-grain rotation *** isotopic composition within this boundary indicates the addition of external.y-derived Pb and trace el.ments during greenschist metamorphism at ~2 Ga. Our resul.s show that discrete Pb reservoirs are nanometric in scal., and il.ustrate that grain boundaries may remain open systems for trace el.ment mobil.ty over 1 bil.ion years after their formation.

Restoration of Mitochondrial.Structure and Function within Hel.cobacter pyl.ri VacA Intoxicated Cel.s

The Hel.cobacter pyl.ri vacuol.ting cytotoxin (VacA) is an intracel.ul.r, mitochondrial.targeting exotoxin that rapidl. causes mitochondrial.dysfunction and fragmentation. Al.hough VacA targeting of mitochondria has been reported to al.er overal. cel.ul.r metabol.sm, there is l.ttl. known about the consequences of extended exposure to the toxin. Here, we describe studies to address this gap in knowl.dge, which have reveal.d that mitochondrial.dysfunction and fragmentation are fol.owed by a time-dependent recovery of mitochondrial.structure, mitochondrial.transmembrane potential. and cel.ul.r ATP l.vel.. Cel.s exposed to VacA al.o initial.y demonstrated a reduction in oxidative phosphoryl.tion, as wel. as increase in compensatory aerobic gl.col.sis. These metabol.c al.erations were reversed in cel.s with l.mited toxin exposure, congruent with the recovery of mitochondrial.transmembrane potential.and the absence of cytochrome c rel.ase from the mitochondria. Taken together, these resul.s are consistent with a model.that mitochondrial.structure and function are restored in VacA-intoxicated cel.s.
