Al-Doping Effect on the Surface Morphology of ZnO Films Grown by Reactive RF Magnetron Sputtering

Zinc oxide (ZnO) and aluminum-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) thin films were deposited onto glass and silicon substrates by RF magnetron sputtering using a zinc-aluminum target. Both films were deposited at a growth rate of 12.5 nm/min to a thickness of around 750 nm. In the visible region, the films exhibit optical transmittances which are greater than 80%. The optical energy gap of ZnO films increased from 3.28 eV to 3.36 eV upon doping with Al. This increase is related to the increase in carrier density from 5.9 × 1018 cm-3 to 2.6 × 1019 cm-3. The RMS surface roughness of ZnO films grown on glass increased from 14 to 28 nm even with only 0.9% at Al content. XRD analysis revealed that the ZnO films are polycrystalline with preferential growth parallel to the (002) plane, which corresponds to the wurtzite structure of ZnO.

Neuroimmune connections have been revealed to play a central role in neurodegenerative diseases(NDs).However, the mechanisms that link the central nervous system(CNS) and peripheral immune cells are still mostly unknown. We recently found that specific ablation of the Arf1 gene in hindbrain and spinal cord neurons promoted NDs through activating the NLRP3 inflammasome in microglia via peroxided lipids and adenosine triphosphate(ATP) releasing. Here, we demonstrate that IL-1β with elevated chemokines in the neuronal Arf1-ablated mouse hindbrain and spinal cord recruited and activated γ δ T cells in meninges. The activated γ δ T cells then secreted IFN-γ that entered into parenchyma to activate the microglia-A1astrocyte-C3-neuronal C3a R neurotoxic pathway. Remarkably, the neurodegenerative phenotypes of the neuronal Arf1-ablated mice were strongly ameliorated by IFN-γ or C3 knockout. Finally, we show that the Arf1-reduction-induced neuroimmune-IFN-γ-gliosis pathway exists in human NDs, particularly in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis. Together, our results uncover a previously unknown mechanism that links the CNS and peripheral immune cells to promote neurodegeneration.

A collision tumor of T and B-cell lymphomas occur rarely. In this article we report a collision tumor of anaplastic large cell lymphoma and diffuse large B cell lymphoma in a 46 year old female. The tumor showed predominantly neoplastic anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) component expressing CD30 and ALK with smaller areas of CD20+ diffuse large B cell lymphoma component. Polymerase chain reaction for T-cell receptor beta and IgH (VDJ) gene rearrangements detected a clonal T cell and a clonal B cell population. The patient developed CSF involvement approximately 3 months after treatment. CSF analysis at this time showed only monoclonal T cells, probably due to clearing of the B cell component by the chemotherapy. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case report of a composite tumor of ALCL (lymphohistiocytic variant) and DLBCL. This case raises issues related to the classification of these composite lymphomas and the treatment on initial presentation and during relapse.

In multicellular organisms, biological activities are regulated by cell signaling. The various signal transduction path- ways regulate cell fate, proliferation, migration, and polarity. Miscoordination of the communicative signals will lead to disasters like cancer and other fatal diseases. The JAK/STAT signal transduction pathway is one of the pathways, which was first identified in vertebrates and is highly conserved throughout evolution. Studying the JAK/STAT signal transduc- tion pathway in Drosophila provides an excellent opportunity to understand the molecular mechanism of the cell regu- lation during development and tumor formation. In this review, we discuss the general overview of JAK/STAT signaling in Drosophila with respect to its functions in the eye development and stem cell fate determination.

我们将苏云金芽孢杆菌(Bacillus thuringiensis)的两个变种 *** HD-1(cryIA(b)和 HD-73(cryIA(c)的抗虫基因进行修饰后转化棉花并使其得到表达,其表达的抗虫蛋白能有效地毒杀农业生产上重要的鳞翅目害虫。在实验室中测定了这些转基因棉花叶组织的总抗虫能力,试验所用的两个鳞翅目昆虫是对 B.t.k.抗虫蛋白相对敏感的甘蓝尺蠖(Trichoplusia ni,cabbage looper)和敏感性比甘蓝尺蠖低100倍的甜菜粘虫(Spodoptera exigua,beet armyworm)。在高虫口密度胁迫下用棉铃虫(Heliothis *** bollworm)对整株棉花进行抗虫试验,结果显示出蕾、铃的有效抗虫性。对棉花植株进行的免疫(?)迹分析表明,抗虫蛋白的含量为总可溶性蛋白的0.05～0.1%。我们将这些结果视为向农业生产上推广这种经过抗虫遗传改良的经济价值高、种植面广的农作物的主要一步。
