This study de.onstrate. the.use.ulne.s of ve.y long-range.te.re.trial lase. scanning(TLS) for analysis of the.spatial distribution of a snowpack, to distance. up to 3000 m, one.of the.longe.t me.sure.e.t range.re.orte. to date. Snow de.th data we.e.colle.te. using a te.re.trial lase. scanne. during 11 pe.iods of snow accumulation and me.ting,ove. thre. snow se.sons on a Pyre.e.n hillslope.haracte.ize. by a large.e.e.ational gradie.t, ste.p slope., and avalanche.occurre.ce. The.maximum and me.n absolute.snow de.th e.ror found was 0.5-0.6 and 0.2-0.3 m re.pe.tive.y, which may re.ult proble.atic for are.s with a shallow snowpack, but it is sufficie.tly accurate.to de.e.mine.snow distribution patte.ns in are.s characte.ize. by a thick snowpack. The.re.ults indicate. that in most case. the.e.was te.poral consiste.cy in the.spatial distribution of the.nowpack, e.e. in diffe.e.t ye.rs.
