The building stock is responsible for a large share of global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions,therefore,it is critical to promote building retrofit to achieve the proposed carbon and energy neutrality *** of the policies implemented in recent years was the Energy Performance Certificate(EPC)policy,which proposes building stock benchm.r.ing to identify buildings that require ***,research shows that these mechanisms fail to engage stakeholders in the retrofit process because it is widely seen as a mandatory and complex *** study makes use of an EPC database to integrate machine learning techniques with multi-objective optimization and develop an interface capable of(1)predicting a building’s,or household’s,energy needs;and(2)providing the user with optimum.r.trofit solutions,costs,and return on *** goal is to provide an open-source,easy-to-use interface that guides the user in the building retrofit *** energy and EPC prediction models show a coefficient of determination(r2)of 0.84 and 0.79,and the optimization results for one case study EPC with a 2000€budget limit inÉvora,Portugal,show decreases of up to 60%in energy needs and return on investments of up to 7 in 3 years.

Finding appropriate photocatalysts for solar-driven water(H_(2)O)splitting to generate hydrogen(H_(2))fuel is a challenging task,particularly when guided by conventional trial-and-error experimental ***,density functional theory(DFT)is used to explore the mXenes photocatalytic properties,an em.r.ing family of two-dimensional(2D)transition metal carbides and nitrides with chemical formula m_(n+1)X_(n)T_(x),known to be semiconductors when having T_(x)*** than 4,000 mXene structures have been screened,considering different compositional(m,X,T_(x),and n)and structural(stacking and termination position)factors,to find suitable mXenes with a bandgap in the visible region and band edges that align with the water-splitting half-reaction *** from bandgap analysis show how,in general,mXenes with n=1 and transition metals from group III present the most cases with bandgap and promising sizes,with C-mXenes being superior to *** band alignment calculations of candidate systems with a bandgap larger than 1.23 eV,the minimum.r.quired for a water-splitting process,Sc_(2)CT_(2),Y_(2)CT_(2)(T_(x)=Cl,Br,S,and Se)and Y_(2)CI_(2)are highlighted as adequate photocatalysts.

In this study,we will model a light-weight building made of phase change materials(PCms)to analyze the impact of the building volume,window orientation,and air infiltration on the PCm *** is done by calculating the energy savings attained by the use of PCm across all of ***’ll use the comm.r.ial rubitherm panels with rT28HC as a phase change material in this ***,the EnergyPlus simulation engine is chosen to perform the *** impact of building volumes is also evaluated on the PCm activation for light-weight square buildings with different side lengths of 10 m,9 m,8 m,and 7 ***,we looked at how well the PCm performed in terms of energy savings and thermal regulation at different window orientation placements(south,north,west,and east)and various air infiltration rates(0.5,1,1.5,and 3 ACH).This paper’s prim.r. objective is to determine the energy savings for the PCm-enhanced building in m.r.cco,as well as the effect of building volume,window orientation,and infiltration on the PCm capabilities for stabilizing the indoor room *** results show good indoor temperature stabilization during the summ.r.for the light-weight square building with a south-facing window and no air *** configuration was able to achieve a total fluctuation reduction of 1303.3℃for the 10 m building in a semi-arid ***,a high energy savings percentage of 69.56%was achieved for the PCm-enhanced building with the south-oriented window and air infiltration of 0.5 air change per hour.

The use of mobile laser scanning to survey forest ecosystems is a promising,scalable technology to describe forest 3D structures at high *** confirm the con-sistency in the retrieval of forest structural parameters using hand-held laser scanning(HLS),before operationalizing the method,confirming the data is *** analyzed the per-formance of tree-level mapping based on HLS under differ-ent phenology conditions on a mixed forest in western Spain com.r.sing Pinus pinaster and two deciduous species,Alnus glutinosa and Quercus *** area was surveyed twice during the growing season(July 2022)and once in the deciduous season(February 2022)using several scan-ning *** reference data(418 trees,15 snags)was used to calibrate the HLS data and to assess the influence of phenology when converting 3D data into tree-level attrib-utes(DBH,height and volume).The HLS-based workflow was robust at isolating tree positions and recognizing stems despite changes in ***-six percent of all pairs matched below 65 *** DBH,phenology barely altered *** observed a strong agreement when comparing HLS-based tree height *** values exceeded 2 m when comparing height measurements,confirming height data should be carefully used as reference in remote sensing-based inventories,especially for deciduous *** volume was m.r. precise for pines(r=0.95,and rela-tive rmSE=21.3–23.8%)compared to deciduous species(r=0.91–0.96,and relative rmSE=27.3–30.5%).HLS data and the forest structural complexity tool performed rem.r.-ably,especially in tree positioning considering mixed forests and mixed phenology conditions.

Appropriate interaction between pantograph and catenary is imperative for smooth operation of electric *** heights of overhead lines to accommodate level crossings,overbridges,and tunnels pose significant challenges in maintaining consistent current collection performance as the pantograph aerodynamic profile,and thus aerodynamic load changes significantly with operational *** research aims to analyse the global flow characteristics and aerodynamic forces acting on individual components of an HSX pantograph operating in different configurations and orientations,such that the results can be combined with multibody simulations to obtain accurate dynamic insight into contact ***,computational fluid dynamics simulations are used to investigate the pantograph component loads in a representative setting,such as that of the recessed cavity on a Class 800 *** an aerodynamic perspective,this study indicates that the total drag force acting on non-fixed components of the pantograph is larger for the knuckle-leading orientation rather than the knuckle-trailing,although the difference between the two is found to reduce with increasing pantograph *** the aerodynamic loads acting on individual components with multibody tools allows for realistic dynamic insight into the pantograph *** results obtained show how considering aerodynamic forces enhance the realism of the models,leading to behaviour of the pantograph-catenary contact forces closely matching that seen in experimental tests.

We present a method to fabricate handcrafted thermoelectric devices on standard office paper *** devices are based on thin films of WS_(2),Te,and BP(P-type semiconductors)and TiS_(3)and TiS_(2)(N-type semiconductors),deposited by simply rubbing powder of these materials against *** thermoelectric properties of these semiconducting films revealed maximum Seebeck coefficients of(+1.32±0.27)mV K^(-1)and(-0.82±0.15)mV K^(-1)for WS_(2)and TiS_(3),***,Peltier elements were fabricated by interconnecting the P-and N-type films with graphite electrodes.A thermopower value up to 6.11 mV K^(-1)was obtained when the Peltier element were constructed with three *** findings of this work show proof-of-concept devices to illustrate the potential application of semiconducting van der Waals materials in future thermoelectric power generation as well as temperature sensing for low-cost disposable electronic devices.
