Neoadjuvant treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma:Whom,when and how

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC),which is notorious for its aggressiveness and poor prognosis,remains an area of great unmet medical need,with a 5-year survival rate of 10%-the lowest of all solid *** diagnosis,only 20%of patients have resectable pancreatic cancer(RPC)or borderline RPC(BRPC)disease,while 80%of patients have unresectable tumours that are locally advanced pancreatic cancer(LAPC)or have distant *** 60%of patients who undergo upfront surgery for RPC are unable to receive adequate adjuvant chemotherapy(CHT)because of postoperative complications and early cancer *** important paradigm shift to achieve better outcomes has been the sequence of therapy,with neoadjuvant CHT preceding *** surgical stages have emerged for the preoperative assessment of nonmetastatic pancreatic cancers:RPC,BRPC,and *** main goal of neoadjuvant treatment(NAT)is to improve postoperative outcomes through enhanced selection of candidates for curative-intent surgery by identifying patients with aggressive or metastatic disease during initial CHT,reducing tumour volume before surgery to improve the rate of margin-negative resection(R0 resection,a microscopic margin-negative resection),reducing the rate of positive lymph node occurrence at surgery,providing early treatment of occult micrometastatic disease,and assessing tumour chemosensitivity and tolerance to treatment as potential surgical *** this editorial,we summarize evidence concerning NAT of PDAC,providing insights into future practice and study *** research is needed to establish predictive biomarkers,measures of therapeutic response,and multidisciplinary stra tegies to improve patient-centered outcomes.

In the paper it has reviewed the monitoring of vehicles in the transport of hazardous substances based on the using of GPS/GSM technology. The basic principles of the GPS concept and hardware have been exhibited which are implemented in locating the vehicle. They have also identified the locating techniques underlying the monitoring process. It has presented an active system for monitoring parameters of the means of transport.

An efficient sparse channel estimator combining time-domain LS and iterative shrinkage for OFDM systems with IQ-imbalances

A time-domain(TD) least square(LS) channel estimator is first proposed to estimate channel parameters of OFDM system with IQ imbalances at both transmitter and ***,an iterative shrinkage(IS) algorithm from compressed sensing is adopted to further improve the estimation performance by using the TD-LS solution as the initial value of IS in the case of sparse *** shows that our algorithm combining TD-LS and IS performs better on bit error rate than the frequency-domain LS and matching pursuit in sparse Hilly Terrain channel when the same LS equalizer is adopted.

ML integer frequency offset estimation for OFDM systems with null subcarriers:Estimation range and pilot design

In this paper the estimation range(ERG) of any null subcarriers(NSC) placement is further investigated and sufficient and necessary conditions of an NSC allocation that achieves a full ERG are ***,a perfect distributed NSC allocation with the NSC distance larger than coherent bandwidth is devised to fully exploit frequency diversity of wireless channels and achieve a full *** confirmed that the propsoed FFT-based ML method of using this NSC placement has a smaller bandwidth overhead,achieves a fuller ERG and provides a better performance than the existing methods of using the consecutive NSC allocation at middle and high signal-to-noise ratios(SNRs).

Observer canonical form based robust fault detection and estimation for hyperbolic spatiotemporal dynamic systems

In this study,the authors propose a novel state and a fault estimation scheme for a class of hyperbolic spatiotemporal dynamic systems in the presence of unknown external *** consider the occurrence of multiplicative actuator and sensor *** detail,they consider two cases of fault occurrence:(i)only one type(actuator or sensor)of fault happens;(ii)two types of faults occur *** study discusses the fault detectability conditions by proposing a fault detection *** complete the estimation problem,three difficulties arise:(i)no prior information shows the type of faults;(ii)the observer design is non-linear due to multiplication between plant signals(state or input)and unknown fault parameters;(iii)only one boundary measurement is *** convert the original faulty plant into its observer canonical *** proposing two filters based on the resulting observer canonical form,they develop novel parameter update laws for fault parameter *** the proposed update laws,the true state of the faulty plant can be estimated by the proposed *** selecting appropriate Lyapunov functions,they prove that estimation error of state and fault parameters exponentially decays to an arbitrarily small neighbourhood of zero despite unknown external disturbance.

This work introduces a methodology to estimate coffee prices based on the use of Extreme Learning *** process is initiated by identifying the presence of nonstationary components,like seasonality and *** components are withdrawn if they are ***,the temporal lags are selected based on the response of the Partial Autocorre-lation Function *** predictors,we address the following models:Exponential Smooth-ing(ES),Autoregressive(AR)and Autoregressive Integrated and Moving Average(ARIMA)models,Multilayer Perceptron(MLP)and Extreme Learning Machines(ELMs)neural *** computational results based on three error metrics and two coffee types(Ara-bica and Robusta)showed that the neural networks,especially the ELM,can reach higher performance levels than the other *** methodology,which presents preprocess-ing stages,lag selection,and use of ELM,is a novelty that contributes to the coffee prices forecasting field.

Reforestation Programs in Southwest China:Reported Success,Observed Failure, and the Reasons Why

Ever since the disastrous floods of 1998, the Chinese government has used the Natural Forest Protection and Sloping Land Conversion Programs to promote afforestation and reforestation as means to reduce runoff, control erosion, and stabilize local livelihoods. These two ambitious programs have been reported as large-scale successes, contributing to an overall increase in China’s forest cover and to the stated goals of environmental stabilization. A small-scale field study at the project level of the implementation of these two programs in Baiwu Township, Yanyuan County, Sichuan, casts doubt upon the accuracy and reliability of these claims of success; ground observations revealed utter failure in some sites and only marginal success in others. Reasons for this discrepancy are posited as involving ecological, economic, and bureaucratic factors. Further research is suggested to determine whether these discrepancies are merely local aberrations or represent larger-scale failures in reforestation programs.

The ARP2/3 complex, a highly conserved nucleator of F-actin polymerization, and its activator, the SCAR complex, have been shown to play important roles in leaf epidermal cell morphogenesis in Arabidopsis. However, the intracellular site（s） and function（s） of SCAR and ARP2/3 complex-dependent actin polymerization in plant cells remain unclear. We demonstrate that putative SCAR complex subunits BRK1 and SCAR1 are localized to the plasma membrane at sites of cell growth and wall deposition in expanding cells of leaves and roots. BRK1 localization is SCAR-dependent, providing further evidence of an association between these proteins in vivo. Consistent with plasma membrane localization of SCAR complex subunits, cortical F-actin accumulation in root tip cells is reduced in brkl mutants. Moreover, mutations disrupting the SCAR or ARP2/3 complex reduce the growth rate of roots and their ability to penetrate semi-solid medium, suggesting reduced rigidity. Cell walls of mutant roots exhibit abnormal structure and composition at intercellular junctions where BRK1 and SCAR1 are enriched in the adjacent plasma membrane. Taken together, our results suggest that SCAR and ARP2/3 complex-dependent actin polymerization promotes processes at the plasma membrane that are important for normal growth and wall assembly.

Influence of Human Pressure on Forest Resources and Productivity at Stand and Tree Scales: The Case Study of Yunnan Pine in SW China

This paper examines human impact on stands and individual trees of Pinus yunnanensis growing near the small mountain villages of Pianshui and Yangjuan in southwestern Sichuan Province,*** an effort to assess whether use of these forests was sustainable,we examined the effects of human use in two ***,we directly measured the effect of cutting branches,for fuel and fodder,on tree *** hypothesized that branch cutting would negatively impact tree *** established 12 plots on four hills and compared 14 pairs of trees,one tree in each pair with an apparently full crown and the other with a considerable portion of the crown ***,we assessed stand and tree properties over a 500 m elevation gradient above the villages where we hypothesized that as elevation increases,stand and tree properties should show fewer human *** extensive branch cutting reduced the live crown,tree height and diameter,compensatory processes likely enabled trees to recover and to add basal area increments(BAIs) similar to those added by trees with full *** and stands close to villages showed less growth and lower basal areas,respectively,than stands and trees at intermediate or distant elevations from *** relatively close to the villages showed considerable effects of human-related disturbances such as branch cutting,grazing,tree and shrub removal,losses of litter,and human and animal *** areas had increased soil erosion and often loss of the ‘A' *** close to villages had younger trees,lower stand basal areas,smaller basal area increments,and more *** results suggest an increasingly vulnerable interface between occupants of these two villages and their surrounding forests.
