AIm： Anti-Saccharomyces anti-nuclear associated cerevisiae antibodies （ASCA）, anti-neutrophil antibodies （NANA） and antibodies to exocrine pancreas （PAB）, are serological tools for discriminating Crohn＇s disease （CrD） and ulcerative colitis （UC）. Like CrD, coeliac disease （COD） is an inflammatory bowel disease （IBD） associated with （auto） antibodies. Performing a multicenter study we primarily aimed to determine the performance of ASCA, NANA and PAB tests for IBD diagnosis in children and adults, and secondarily to evaluate the prevalence of these markers in CoD. mETHODS： Sera of 109 patients with CrD, 78 with UC, 45 with CoD and 50 healthy blood donors were retrospectively included. ASCA, NANA and PAB were detected by indirect immunofluorescence （IIF）. RESULTS： ASCA＋/NANA- profile displayed a positive predictive value of 94.2% for CrD. Detection of ASCA was correlated with a more severe clinical profile of CrD and treatment of the disease did not influence their serum levels. ASCA positivity was found in 37.9% of active *** were found in 36.7% CrD and 13.3% CoD patients and were not correlated with clinical features of CrD, except with an early onset of the disease. Fifteen CrD patients were ASCA negative and PAB positive. CONCLUSION： ASCA and PAB detected by IIF are specific markers for CrD although their presence does not rule out a possible active CoD. The combination of ASCA, NANA and PAB tests improves the sensitivity of immunological markers for CrD. Repeating ASCA, NANA, and PAB testing during the course of CrD has no clinical value.

Lactobacilli Improve the Antioxidant Activity in Fermented Coriolus versicolor Extract

Coriolus versicolor has been reported to have biological activities such as anticancer, antibacterial, antibiotics and immunopotentiation. The authors tried to ferment using lactobacilli associated with various biological functions and expected that fermented extract by lactobacilli will be superior to non-fermented extract in antioxidant activity. C. versicolor was extracted with 70% ethanol and then it was fermented by Lactobacillus acidophilus KCTC3164 and Lactobacillus plantarum KCTC3099, respectively. 1,l-dipheny｜-2-picrylhydrazyl （DPPH） scavenging activity, superoxide dismutase （SOD）-like activity and tetrazolium salt 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide （mTT） assays were performed. DPPH scavenging activity of fermented extract by L. acidophilus was higher than fermented extract by L. plantarum and antioxidant effect of fermented extract was 20%-30% higher than non-fermented extract. SOD-like activity was represented 18% in fermented extract by L. acidophilus, and was 27% in fermented extract by L. plantarum higher than non-fermented extract. As a result, this study suggests that it may need an efficient protocol for dominant bio-physiological activities such as extract volume or appropriate working volume of cultured cell or mixture condition. The fermented C. versicolor extract should provide with useful antioxidant agent in the human skin.

Hydrodynamics of air-kerosene bubble column under elevated pressure in homogeneous flow regime

A multiphase computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model coupled with the population balance equation(PBE)was developed in a homogeneous air-kerosene bubble column under elevated pressure(P).The specific pressure drop(ΔP/L),gas holdup(α_(G)),and Sauter mean diameter(d_(32))were experimentally measured in the bubble column with 1.8 m height and 0.1 m inner diameter,which was operated at a superficial gas velocity of 12.3 mm·s^(-1),and P=1-35 bar(1 bar=10^(5) Pa).A modified drag coefficient model was proposed to consider the effect of bubble swarm and pressure on hydrodynamics of the bubble *** Luo breakage model was modified to account for liquid density,viscosity,surface tension and gas ***ΔP/L,α_(G),and d_(32) obtained from the CFD model were compared with experimental data,and the gas density-dependent parameters of the CFD model were *** increasing P from 1 to 35 bar,theα_(G) varied from 5.4%to 7.2% and the d32 decreased from 2.3 to 1.5 *** CFD-PBE model is applicable to predict hydrodynamics of pressurized bubble columns for gas-organic liquid in the homogeneous regime.

Introduction: Vaginal practices include washing, altering, cutting, cleaning, enhancing, drying, tightening, lubricating, or loosening of the vagina, labia, clitoris, or hymen. This study aimed to investigate the different vaginal practices of women using non-pharmaceutical products. methodology: This was a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical purposes that took place from January 15 to April 23, 2023, in the four largest markets in the municipality of Ouagadougou. This was performed using the data collection sheet in the KoboCollect application. Epi info 7.***.5.0. software was used for data analysis. For the analysis of associated factors, a p-value Results: In total, 977 women were surveyed. Among them, 43.19% underwent vaginal procedures using non-pharmaceutical products. The female practitioners were 34.34 ± 7.44 years old. The products used included plants, mineral substances, ointments, tablets, and solutions. Among the practicing women, 40.99% were looking for vaginal tightening. The main purpose was to maintain their partners (45.97%). Three-point thirty-two percent (3.32%) of the women who underwent vaginal procedures had reported adverse events. Conclusion: Raising awareness of the consequences of vaginal practices and encouraging women to go to a health center for any gynecological problem could significantly reduce the prevalence of vaginal practices.

Upfront Docetaxel with LH-RH Antagonist for metastatic Hormone Sensitive Prostate Cancer Considering Epithelial to mesenchymal Transition

Objective: Upfront docetaxel use for hormone naïve advanced prostate cancer is reported that it successfully delayed the progression to hormone refractory stage, though the adequate methodology to obtain the maximum effect is unclear. We investigated these issues from our experiences of upfront docetaxel use with LH-RH antagonist for metastatic hormone sensitive prostate cancer, aiming at the prevention of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EmT) for apoptosis tolerance. Patients and methods: Of 31 stage IV new prostate cancer patients treated with upfront docetaxel and LH-RH antagonist (Degarelix), 25 patients who could be followed more than 12 months (mean 36.2 months) were analyzed. Docetaxel was used two to three courses basically 75 mg/m2 dose initializing two weeks after the induction of first Degarelix. Results: The clinical course was divided clearly to two groups according to prostate specific antigen (PSA) values. Of 25 patients, 12 patient’s PSA did not decrease below 0.1 ng/ml within 6 months (group A) and gradually rose afterwards. PSA in another 13 patients (group B) decreased below 0.1 within 6 months and kept below 0.1 during the follow up period. Although statistically not significant, the initial group A’s PSA was higher than group B’s (average 1308 and 353 ng/ml), however, number of metastasis, Gleason sum, and bone metastatic extent of disease showed no difference between them. Among group B patients, 7 cases had only upfront docetaxel and hormonal therapy, and some of these patients showed only atrophic gland and fibrotic tissue at second prostate biopsy (specimens after more than two years of therapy), suggesting complete response. Conclusion: Our study suggested that PSA value at 6 months may predict the outcome of whole therapy.
