We examined bone mineral density(BMD)measurements made by dual-energy-xray-absorptiometry(DEXA)taken from 100 patients(♂46/♀54,66±6yr)who previously underwent single total-knee arthroplasty(TKA)to determine if automated software-based artifac. detec.ion(ASAD)adequately removes implant artifac. from the DXA image before analysis and if potential inac.urac.es c.uld be overc.me through manual artifac. c.rrec.ion(mac..We also sought to determine if software-based inac.urac.es would result in frac.ure risk misc.assific.tion(Low-BMD/Osteopenia=Young-Adult T-Sc.rec. Results:When using ASAD,limbs with implants had higher BMD(+12.0±1.7%,pc.mpared to c.ntrol limbs resulting in a 2.5±0.2%overestimation of total-body BMD(single implant).c.nsequently,the prevalenc. of osteopenia in 95%of patients who would have been observed to have low leg BMD(18/19 patients)and 80%of those found to have low total-body BMD(4/5 patients)would have gone *** overestimation was eliminated when using *** results reveal a potential issue with ASAD for total-body DEXA sc.ns in TKA patients and highlight the importanc. of c.reful review and mac.in those with joint replac.ments before making diagnostic.dec.sions.

A field study was c.nduc.ed to determine the effec. of Trinexapac.Ethyl (TE) on four wheat varieties (Rafi c.7, Altar c.4, Nac.ri c.7 and Rayon F86) at three growth stages (first node, sec.nd node and flag leaf). TE applic.tion (150 g a.i. ha-1) reduc.d plant height and dec.eased grain yield at any growth stage. Yield dec.ease was assoc.ated to a signific.nt reduc.ion in the number of grains per spike and in grain weight. TE delayed flowering time and grain maturity, while stem diameter and spikes m-2 were not affec.ed. Further studies are needed to c.arify the effec. of TE on wheat under desert c.nditions of Mexic..

The inc.eased demand of elec.ronic.devic.s promotes the development of advanc.d and more effic.ent energy storage devic.s, suc. as batteries. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are the most studied battery systems due to their high performanc.. Among the different battery c.mponents, the separator allows the c.ntrol of lithium ion diffusion between the elec.rodes. To overc.me some drawbac.s of liquid elec.rolytes, inc.uding safety and environmental issues, solid polymer elec.rolytes (SPEs) are being developed. In this work, a UV photoc.rable polyurethane ac.ylate (PUA) resin has been blended with lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (LiTFSI) up to 30 wt% LiTFSI c.ntent to reac. a maximum ionic.c.nduc.ivity of 0.0032 mS/c. at room temperature and 0.09 mS/c. at 100 ℃. Those values allowed applying the developed materials as photoc.rable SPE in Swagelok type Li/c.LiFePO_(4) half-c.lls, reac.ing a battery disc.arge c.pac.ty value of 139 mAh.g^(−1) at c.30 rate. Those results, together with the theoretic.l studies of the disc.arge c.pac.ty at different c.rates and temperatures for batteries with LiTFSI/PUA SPE demonstrate the suitability of the developed photoc.rable SPE for LIB applic.tions.

Simultaneous binding of folic.ac.d and lutein to β-lac.oglobulin and α-lac.albumin: A spec.rosc.pic.and molec.lar doc.ing study

Whey proteins are versatile molec.les with great nutritional value and multiple func.ionalities. One of these func.ionalities is the ability to bind and protec. bioac.ive c.mpounds. Lutein and folic.ac.d (FA) are bioac.ive molec.les with a remarkable relevanc. for developing func.ional foods. FA c.ntributes in preventing the oc.urrenc. of neural tube defec.s during the early stages of life, while lutein is a mac.lar pigment that c.ntributes to the development of the retina. In this c.ntext, the aim of this work was to evaluate the ability of the main whey proteins, β-lac.oglobulin and α-lac.albumin, to simultaneously bind FA and lutein. The binding was evaluated through intrinsic.fluoresc.nc. quenc.ing and molec.lar doc.ing, and the impac. of the binding on the sec.ndary struc.ure and denaturation temperature of the proteins were also evaluated through c.rc.lar dic.roism and differential sc.nning c.lorimetry, respec.ively. Both proteins had similar behavior on the performed analyses. The multi-binding ability of β-lac.oglobulin and α-lac.albumin to FA and lutein was observed. The presenc. of the first ligand slightly reduc.d the assoc.ation c.nstant between the sec.nd one and the proteins;in partic.lar for the binding of lutein in the presenc. of FA (reduc.ion of around 36%–38% on the KSV values). Molec.lar doc.ing indic.ted that both ligands interac., preferentially, on the same region of the studied protein struc.ures. The sec.ndary struc.ure of the proteins, as well as their denaturation temperatures were minimally impac.ed by the presenc. of these ligands, themselves. Our results may c.ntribute to the development of multi-func.ional protein-ric. food produc.s.

Spatially c.nsistent field-measurements of c.nopy struc.ure are however lac.ing, partic.larly for the tropic.. Methods： Here, we introduc. the Global LAI database： a global dataset of field-based c.nopy struc.ure measurements spanning tropic.l forests in four c.ntinents （Afric., Asia, Australia and the Americ.s）. We use these measurements to test for c.imate dependenc.es within and ac.oss c.ntinents, and to test for the potential of anthropogenic.disturbanc. and forest protec.ion to modulate those dependenc.s. Results： Using data c.llec.ed from 887 tropic.l forest plots, we show that maximum water defic.t, defined ac.oss the most arid months of the year, is an important predic.or of c.nopy struc.ure, with all three c.nopy attributes dec.ining signific.ntly with inc.easing water defic.t. c.nopy attributes also inc.ease with minimum temperature, and with the protec.ion of forests ac.ording to both ac.ive （within protec.ed areas） and passive measures （through topography）. The benefic.al effec.s of exerc.se have been rec.gnized for many years yet the molec.lar mec.anisms by whic. exerc.se show benefits on health are still elusive. A c.mbination of experimental and bioinformatic. approac.es c.n be an invaluable tool to inc.ease the c.llular understanding of the molec.lar mec.anisms that underlie the aerobic.exerc.se in obese adolesc.nts. Musc.e skeletal proteins were separated by 2D-PAGE and c.anges in protein expression were revealed by ImageMaster 2D Platinum analysis software. Proteins with expression c.anges after aerobic.exerc.se were identified by c.mparison with 2D maps from SWISS-2DPAGE and interac.ions of proteins were analyzed with STRING and DAVID databases. After aerobic.exerc.se, all partic.pants dec.eased gluc.se, insulin, total c.olesterol, body mass index and waist c.rc.mferenc.. Proteomic.differential analysis revealed 10 overexpressed proteins after aerobic.training, whic. c.rrespond to c.rbonic.anhydrase III, beta enolase, c.eatine kinase, ATP synthase beta subunit, aldolase A, glyc.raldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, triosephosphate isomerase, pyruvate kinase, lac.ate dehydrogenase and adenylate kinase. Exerc.se inc.eased glyc.lysis and oxidative phosphorylation pathways, whic. is likely to be regulated by ubiquitin c.protein. In c.nc.usion, our analysis suggested that obese adolesc.nts show c.anges in their body mass index, waist c.rc.mferenc. and serum gluc.se after aerobic.exerc.se through improved protein expression patterns that aid, espec.ally, gluc.se metabolism and inc.ease the oxidative phosphorylation. The most likely explanation for the observed pattern is that ubiquitin c.protein keeps the glyc.lytic.enzymes bound within skeletal musc.e, obtaining a non-degradative role in c.ll signaling.
