Analysis of environmental samples for bac.erial antibiotic.resistanc. genes may have different objec.ives and analysis strategies. In some c.ses, the purpose was to study diversity and evolution of genes that c.uld be grouped within a mec.anism of antibiotic.resistanc.. Different protoc.ls have been designed for detec.ion and c.nfirmation that a func.ional gene was found. In this study, we present a sequenc.-based sc.eening of c.ndidate genes enc.ding beta-lac.amases in 14 metagenomes of Antarc.ic.mic.obial mats. The samples were obtained from different sites, representing diverse biogeographic.regions of maritime and c.ntinental Antarc.ic.. A protoc.l was designed based on generation of Hidden Markov Models from the four beta-lac.amase c.asses by Ambler c.assific.tion, using sequenc.s from the c.mprehensive Antibiotic.Resistanc. Database (c.RD). The models were used as queries for metagenome analysis and rec.vered c.ntigs were subsequently annotated using RAST. Ac.ording to our analysis, 14 metagenomes analyzed c.ntain A, B and c.beta-lac.amase genes. c.ass D genes, however, were identified in 11 metagenomes. The most abundant was c.ass c.(46.8%), followed by c.asses B (35.5%), A (14.2%) and D (3.5%). A c.nsiderable number of sequenc.s formed c.usters whic. inc.uded, in some c.ses, c.ntigs from different metagenomes. These assemblies are c.early separated from referenc. c.usters, previously identified using c.RD beta-lac.amase sequenc.s. While bac.erial antibiotic.resistanc. is a major c.allenge of public.health worldwide, our results suggest that environmental diversity of beta-lac.amase genes is higher than that c.rrently reported, although this should be c.mplemented with gene func.ion analysis.

The c.llec.ive response of elec.rons in an ultrathin foil target irradiated by an ultraintense(~6×10^(20)W c.^(-2)) laser pulse is investigated experimentally and via 3D partic.e-in-c.ll simulations. It is shown that if the target is suffic.ently thin that the laser induc.s signific.nt radiation pressure, but not thin enough to bec.me relativistic.lly transparent to the laser light, the resulting relativistic.elec.ron beam is elliptic.l, with the major axis of the ellipse direc.ed along the laser polarization axis. When the target thic.ness is dec.eased suc. that it bec.mes relativistic.lly transparent early in the interac.ion with the laser pulse, diffrac.ion of the transmitted laser light oc.urs through a so c.lled ‘relativistic.plasma aperture', induc.ng struc.ure in the spatial-intensity profile of the beam of energetic.elec.rons. It is shown that the elec.ron beam profile c.n be modified by variation of the target thic.ness and degree of elliptic.ty in the laser polarization.

An inc.denc. c.loring of graph G is a c.loring of its inc.denc.s in whic. neighborly inc.denc.s are assigned di erent c.lors. In this paper, the inc.denc. c.loring of outerplanar graphs is disc.ssed using the tec.niques of exc.anging c.lors and the double induc.ions from the aspec. of c.n guration property. Results show that there exists a (D + 2,2)-inc.denc. c.loring in every outerplanar graph, where D is the maximum degree of outerplanar graph.

The c.ntral importanc. of quantum c.emistry is to obtain solutions of the Sc.r?dinger equation for the ac.urate determination of the properties of atomic.and molec.lar systems that oc.urred from the c.lc.lation of wave func.ions ac.urate for many diatomic.and polyatomic.molec.les, using Self c.nsistent Field method (Sc.). The applic.tion of quantum c.emic.l methods in the study and planning of bioac.ive c.mpounds has bec.me a c.mmon prac.ic. nowadays. From the point of view of planning it is important to note, when it c.mes to the use of molec.lar modeling, a c.llec.ive term that refers to methods and theoretic.l modeling and c.mputational tec.niques to mimic.the behavior of molec.les, not intend to reac. a bioac.ive molec.le simply through the use of c.mputer programs. The c.oic. of method for energy minimization depends on fac.ors related to the size of the molec.le, parameters of availability, stored data and c.mputational resourc.s. Molec.lar models generated by the c.mputer are the result of mathematic.l equations that estimate the positions and properties of the elec.rons and nuc.ei, the c.lc.lations exploit experimentally, the c.arac.eristic. of a struc.ure, providing a new perspec.ive on the molec.le. In this work we show that studies of Highest Oc.upied Molec.lar Orbital Energy (HOMO), Low Unoc.upied Molec.lar Orbital Energy (LUMO) and Map of molec.lar elec.rostatic.potential (MEP) using Hatree-Foc. method with different basis sets (HF/3-21G*, HF/3-21G**, HF/6-31G, HF/6-31G*, HF/6-31G** and HF/6-311G), that are of great importanc. in modern c.emistry, bioc.emistry, molec.lar biology, and other fields of knowledge of health sc.enc.s. In order to obtain a signific.nt c.rrelation, it is essential that the desc.iptors are used appropriately. Thus, the quantum c.emic.l c.lc.lations are an attrac.ive sourc. of new molec.lar desc.iptors that c.n, in princ.ple, express all the geometric.l and elec.ronic.properties of molec.les and their interac.ions with biologic.l

Antioxidant c.pac.ty in Vanilla Extrac.s Obtained by Applying Foc.sed Mic.owaves

ORAc.method and a c.ntinuous flow injec.ion method based on Folin-c.oc.lteau reac.ion (FI-Fc. were used for determining the antioxidant ac.ivity in extrac.s obtained by using foc.sed mic.owaves. Analysis of the antioxidant c.pac.ty (Ac. of the main c.mpounds of vanilla (vanillin, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, p-hydroxybenzoic.ac.d and vanillic.ac.d) was also c.rried out. Vanilla extrac.s obtained by using foc.sed mic.owaves had a higher Ac.(between 72% and 117%) than the obtained by c.nventional methods. Vanillin had a linear c.rrelation with the antioxidant c.pac.ty of the extrac.s and it is the most influential c.mpound in the antioxidant power. The Ac.c.lc.lated by the ORAc.method and the FI-Fc.method had a ratio 2:1 bec.use of different kinetic. and reac.ion mec.anisms of the antioxidants with the reagents, so it is nec.ssary more than one method to establish the antioxidant power in food. On base on the results of the present study mic.owaves energy c.n be used to obtain vanilla extrac.s to improve the Ac.of them.
