A determination of how the color of animal integument is produced is a starting point for investigations into the function and evolution of *** mechanisms that give rise to the color of bare skin of New World vultures are largely ***,we investigate the source of color production in the bare skin of Turkey Vultures(Cathartes aura)and Black Vultures(Coragyps atratus).Using UV-vis reflectance spectroscopy,we found evidence that hemoglobin is the primary pigment responsible for the red coloration of the bare skin on the heads of Turkey Vultures,and that eumelanin is responsible for the black coloration of the bare skin on the heads of Black *** microscopy of incisional skin samples further supported these mechanisms of color production by revealing the presence of numerous blood vessels near the surface of the Turkey Vulture skin,and a high concentration of melanosomes in the skin of Black *** high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),we detected carotenoids within the skin of both species with significantly higher total concentrations of carotenoids in the skin of Turkey Vultures compared to the skin of Black *** carotenoids detected were dietary carotenoids that typically produce yellow coloration when accumulated in integument and were present in low *** hypothesize that the dietary carotenoids present do not contribute to the color of the skin,but rather help to compensate for the lack of melanosomes found in Turkey Vulture *** presence of additional carotenoids may act as an antioxidant to minimize UV damage when the bare Turkey Vulture head skin is exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time when soaring and scavenging for food.

The Chinese life-insurance industry has experienced major structural changes in recent years, primarily because of increasing demand and the entry of foreign insurers. Although the market is clearly booming, the efficiency of its growth and development is unclear. In this paper, we evaluate the efficiency of life insurers operating in China and compare foreign firms with domestic firms. We find that foreign insurers have not brought efficiency into the Chinese market, and that the market is still dominated by domestic giants. However, the gap between foreign insurers and domestic insurers is narrowing. After testing hypotheses regarding scale economy, technical progress andpotential improvements, we discuss several issues＇ of importance to life insurers, market investors and government regulators.

For over 60 years,salicylic acid(SA)has been known as a plant immune signal required for basal and systemic acquired *** activates these immune responses by reprogramming∼20%of the transcriptome through ***,components in the NPR1 signaling hub,which appears as nuclear condensates,and the NPR1 signaling cascade have remained elusive due to difficulties in studying this transcriptional cofactor,whose chromatin association is indirect and likely *** overcome this challenge,we applied TurboID to divulge the NPR1 proxiome,which detected almost all known NPR1 interactors as well as new components of transcription-related *** of new components showed that chromatin remodeling and histone demethylation contribute to SA-induced ***,the NPR1 proxiome has a striking similarity to the proxiome of GBPL3 that is involved in SA synthesis,except for associated transcription factors(TFs),suggesting that common regulatory modules are recruited to reprogram specific transcriptomes by transcriptional cofactors,like NPR1,through binding to unique *** green fluorescent protein-tagged factor cleavage under target and release using nuclease(greenCUT&RUN)analyses showed that,upon SA induction,NPR1 initiates the transcriptional cascade primarily through association with TGACG-binding TFs to induce expression of secondary TFs,predominantly ***,WRKY54 and WRKY70 were identified to play a major role in inducing immune-output genes without interacting with NPR1 at the ***,loss of condensate formation function of NPR1 decreases its chromatin association and transcriptional activity,indicating the importance of condensates in organizing the NPR1 signaling hub and initiating the transcriptional ***,this study demonstrates how combinatorial applications of TurboID and stepwise greenCUT&RUN transcend traditional genetic methods to globally map signaling hubs and transcriptional cascades for in

The first report demonstrating that prolonged endurance exercise promotes oxidative stress in humans was published more than 4 decades *** this discovery,many ensuing investigations have corroborated the fact that muscular exercise increases the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and results in oxidative stress in numerous tissues including blood and skeletal *** several tissues may contribute to exercise-induced ROS production,it is predicted that muscular contractions stimulate ROS production in active muscle fibers and that skeletal muscle is a primary source of ROS production during *** contraction-induced ROS generation is associated with(1)oxidant damage in several tissues(e.g.,increased protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation),(2)accelerated muscle fatigue,and(3)activation of biochemical signaling pathways that contribute to exercise-induced adaptation in the contracting muscle *** our understanding of exercise and oxidative stress has advanced rapidly during the last decades,questions remain about whether exercise-induced increases in ROS production are beneficial or harmful to *** review addresses this issue by discussing the site(s)of oxidant production during exercise and detailing the health consequences of exercise-induced ROS production.
