Background. Coloni. mali.nant obstructi.n and perforated di.erti.uli.i. are acute left si.ed coloni. emergenci.s (ALSCE) that are typi.ally managed wi.h colorectal resecti.n. Coloni. preservati.n techni.ues such as laparoscopi. lavage and endoscopi. stenti.g have emerged as management opti.ns, the safety of whi.h has been debated. We ai.ed to determi.e i. these alternate coloni. preservati.n techni.ues result i. i.creased i.-hospi.al mortali.y. Materi.ls and Methods. Retrospecti.e analysi. of prospecti.ely collected data of 210 pati.nts wi.h ALSCE managed from June 2001 to Apri. 2014. Data collected i.cluded demographi., pathology type, ASA gradi.g, operati.e and post-operati.e progress. Uni.ari.ble and multi.ari.ble logi.ti. regressi.n was performed to determi.e factors contri.uti.g to treatment arm allocati.n and i.-hospi.al mortali.y. These were performed on the whole treatment cohort, as well as per pathology subgroup. Results. 210 pati.nts were i.cluded. Non-resecti.nal management was attempted i. 147 pati.nts (70%), of whi.h 38 (26%) requi.ed un-planned coloni. resecti.n or di.d i. hospi.al. Those treated wi.h coloni. preservati.n were younger, had lower ASA scores and had lower Hi.chey scores (i. the di.erti.ular perforati.n group) than those i. the resecti.n group. Female gender was the only i.dependent predi.tor of i.creased i.-hospi.al mortali.y ri.k. i.portantly, the type of procedure performed (coloni. preservati.n vs. resecti.n) di. not predi.t i.-hospi.al mortali.y ri.k. Conclusi.n. Attempted coloni. preservati.n strategi.s do not i.crease the ri.k of i.-hospi.al mortali.y i. pati.nts presenti.g wi.h ALSCE. Gi.en the i.herent benefi.s of coloni. preservati.n, these treatment strategi.s should be consi.ered when managi.g ALSCE.

Despi.e the i.portance of ontogeneti. data on early di.ergi.g euarthropods to our understandi.g of the ecology and evoluti.n of past li.e, the data are di.ti.ctly lacki.g, as reconstructi.g li.e hi.tori.s of fossi. ani.als i. often challengi.g. Here we report the growth trajectory of frontal appendages of the apex predator Amplectobelua symbrachi.ta, one of the most common radi.dont arthropods from the early Cambri.n Chengji.ng bi.ta(c. 520 Ma) of Chi.a. Analysi. of 432 speci.ens(9.1–137.1 mm length; 1.3–25.6 mm hei.ht) reveals that appendages grew i.ometri.ally, wi.h an esti.ated maxi.um si.e of the whole ani.al of c. 90 cm. i.di.i.uals grew rapi.ly compared to extant arthropods, as assessed usi.g the electroni. length-frequency analysi.(ELEFAN) approach. Therefore, we show that the Cambri.n apex predator A. symbrachi.ta was an extremely fast-growi.g arthropod, wi.h an unusual li.e hi.tory strategy that formed as part of the escalatory ‘arms race’ that shaped the Cambri.n explosi.n over 500 Ma.

i.troducti.n: Hi., the human i.munodefi.i.ncy vi.us, i. the eti.logi.al agent of acqui.ed i.munodefi.i.ncy syndrome (Ai.S). The ai. of thi. study was to assess the evoluti.n of the vi.al load i. pati.nts under treatment. Methodology: Thi. was a study carri.d out from July 2017 to June 2022 at the Poi.t G Uni.ersi.y Hospi.al laboratory. The determi.ati.n of the vi.al load of pati.nts was carri.d out by PCR on the ABOTT M2000sp/rt platform. Results: A total of 129 pati.nts i.fected wi.h Hi.-1, aged 19 to 72 years wi.h a mean age of 40.05 years ± 10.71;all on anti.etrovi.al chemotherapy. The female gender predomi.ated among our pati.nts. The most common treatment regi.en was 2i.Ti.+ 1i.NTi.wi.h 72.9% followed by 2i.Ti.+ 1i.i.wi.h 13.2%. As for the combi.ati.ns of molecules, the combi.ati.n TDF + 3TC + EFV and TDF + 3TC + DTG predomi.ated, respecti.ely 65.1% and 13.2%. 89.9% of our pati.nts had undetectable vi.emi. after 12 months of treatment (p i.h an average vi.al load whi.h had evolved from 681315.65 copi.s/ml ± 1616908.484 to M0 at 5742.36 copi.s /ml ± 35756.883 at M12 (p Conclusi.n: Generally speaki.g, anti.etrovi.al treatment had contri.uted to controlli.g vi.al loads, however the therapeuti. combi.ati.n TDF + 3TC + DTG had made i. possi.le to obtai. more pati.nts wi.h undetectable vi.emi. i.stead.
